The Yennefer/Triss choice in TW3

"Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public men, nor cheering crowds,
A lonely impulse of delight
Drove to this tumult in the clouds;
I balanced all, brought all to mind,
The years to come seemed waste of breath,
A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death."

A Witcher motto if ever there was one. Always reminds me of a friend of mine, gone too young. Ah, well.
Nice, we really should use this as motto.

If this choice is lacking in the end, this will be the ME3 for 2015. However, I do have faith for CDPR though, they should have learnt what happened to Bioware. I hope we could choose multiple girls in the end too, it will be very fun.

We're talking about sorceresses not pornstars. ME3 of 2015 is a bit drastic since not all fans care enough about Yen or Triss but I see your point.

Geralt/Yennefer was a special situation. Witchers aren't supposed to have emotions/fall in love.

Yup, and yet he fell for her and yet he left her just like she did once, because s/he couldn't admit her feelings.

I can't change how you felt while reading that part, but i think it's unfair to judge her for her actions and at the same time give Geralt a free pass for the same action.

Do you mean the affair with Essi? Because I wanted to punch Geralt on the face too in that short story. :p It's not that you have to forgive his mistakes (and he did a couple, of course) because he is the protagonist. Poor girl, I think she was the right one aaand at the end Sapkowski decided to give us that "bad ending"... I admit I cried a little bit.

I didn't mean any affair at all, i don't know anymore in what exact chapter it happened, but at the start of the saga (Blood of the Elves) they are separated, because Geralt left without a word and that's also why she is so pissed until they meet in Gors Velen again.

I don't think he thought she was a traitor, she was missing, so he went looking for her. End of story.

That fling with Fringila, well, she seduced him to get more information and finally to replace Yennefer, kinda reminds me of a certain other sorceress

Or do you mean *ahem* spoilers from 7th book
The affair with Fringilla? Because I can't count it as a Geralt's mistake. He was mad at Yen, he don't want to have nothing to do with her, he believed she was a traitor who used him. So he was single, and then he regretted all the bad thoughts, when he found out the truth.
And then when Yen asked him about a certain matter....

"Why don't i believe you?"

Yeah, that would be kinda over the top. While i like talking/reading about this matter and really like Yennefer, that doesn't mean i will get my pitchfork & torch and march towards Poland, if it doesn't end exactly how i want, because this is just a part of the game and not the point of the game.

The Witcher (3) is about the Wild Hunt, politics and monster hunting and not about whom i bang. I don't want a "We'll bang, ok?"-Simulator.

Well that's not exactly like this, because before Blood of Elves their last meeting was during Belleteyn and before the war (there's Geralt's flashback in the short story Something more) so... about 3 years before, and they didn't quarrel. When they met in Hirundum they talked and talked and talked, clearing all the questions and all the mistakes they did and so...they were together again (lovely moment).
Then we know what happened later.

spoilers from 6th book
Geralt then wrongly thought it was Yennefer who told where he and his hansa were. I don't think he kinda considered him and Yennefer in a relationship anymore, and so he treated her as a traitor until he found out the truth.

"I have omitted to Cahir and to you the reason for my anger, my rage, and my grief. They stem from the fact that I know who betrayed us. I know who betrayed and kidnapped Ciri, who we want to save. My anger stems from the fact that we are talking about a person who was once very close to me.
Where we are, what we are doing, which way we go, and what we want – it's all been determined by means of detection and acquisition magic. It is not too difficult for a master of magic to locate a person from a distance and observe them – as long as that person was once well known and close to them. And as long as they had formed a long-lasting mental contact with them, making it possible to create their matrix. But the sorcerer and the sorceress of whom I speak have made a mistake. They exposed themselves. They were wrong about the number of members in the company, and this mistake has betrayed them."

He was referring to Yennefer and Vilgefortz, but we know he was mistaken. :p

That other sorceress is... uhm...Triss?

As much as I've liked Triss from W2, after reading the books my choice will definitely be Yennefer.

Yep, that's what Mass Effect and Witcher 1 are for. But some people aren't going to be happy (including me) if they aren't allowed to choose. Especially if they snubbed Roche/Iorveth for Triss and imported their save for the very purpose of being with Triss.

Unless they're sad people and just want Triss to cry when they pick Yennefer.

Oh no, don't read the Wiki if you haven't read the saga first, spoilers are not so nice XD
 I did the same while reading that part...and yes definitely it's not a series you want to read before going to bed
I finished the 7th book (fan translation) before sleeping and I didn't sleep at all:

HAAA lol i have the books translated into english...but i wanted to read more so i looked up the fan translated stories....teehee Sapkowski needs to stop writing this last book and git to translating those other for me. CHOPCHOP!!
and at some point everyone in these stories, save ciri or vincent, deserves to get punch in the face...

In my opinion, if you are trying to play the game as a "canon" Geralt, there is not really an option in who you would choose. In the books, Geralt placed his destiny in Yennefer's hands, that was his last wish from the air genie. So to me every other "affair" Geralt has had or will have is simply trivial and happened or will happen for various reasons, for example anger at betrayal, fear of commitment, or even amnesia..So yeah I guess I would always pick Yennefer over anyone else since I want to play the games as "canonically" as possible.

What I mean is that, its not really a question of character, I guess some people would think that if you choose Yennefer over Triss you look like a scumbag and a traitor. In my opinion this is not the case, since in the witcher world Destiny, plays a very important role, and also Triss knows of Geralt's connection to Yennefer..

There has to be the option. I want to be with Triss =(

Yep I want to option for Gerald to carry on his relationship with Triss he worked so hard for over the course of 2 games. Despise the notion of being forced back to yen because it should be canon. This is in RPGs, let those who want to stick to book Geralt chase after yen and let others choose their own path.

I'm reading through the books now after playing the games. I have to say where I am now I'm still leaning towards Triss - she was really well developed in the book as being very unhappily in love with Geralt, and it's wonderful to see all the tension between them gone in the games and them having a nice relationship.

That said, Yennefer is a great example of an imperfect love. She's very flawed and their problematic - but still very real - relationship rings true to me in a lot of ways.

I really hope they give us an option to choose in the game, since I still have no damn clue who I like as an LI - or even character for that matter - more, and I'd love to have separate play throughs so that I can experience both romances in-game. After all, CDPRED said that romance would play a much larger role in the story.

You're right. I'm nearly done with the books and I became fond of Yen. Before that I really loved Triss in the games and even more with the books. So having the option is a must-have I think. But in CDPR we trust.

Players should choose between Triss and Yen.

As for Shani.... I never liked her, her role made not much sense, especially after the Alvin incident and she was not in TW2. So yeah...

Besides, it holds massive re-playability potential - if that option exist, that one choice will be enough cause for me to play through the game at least a second time. Coupled with all the other likely huge world-impacting choices, and I'll probably not leave my house for the next three months.

If there's a choice between both women I guess it be for a turnaround of the main story. Having one or other beside Geralt like another item in his back haven't any meaning to me.
