@Gilrond , yes, I admit that they are connected, but as someone introduced to the Witcher world by the games, I feel that there is more of a connection with Triss. Also, I loved the section of Blood of Elves where Geralt was caring for an ill Triss. That section really solidified my like for them as a couple.

I'd say in the books Geralt had more connection with Yennefer. Games changed that with amnesia and all related themes. Which means that Geralt can be not the same as he was by the time of TW3, even if he regained his memories.

Well... I'd say that there *is* no choice. Geralt is tied to Yennefer by destiny and you can't oppose that.

It is Ciri's wish too, also tied to Geralt by destiny ~ one that may still be unfulfilled, although we don't know yet what is happening with Ciri in the game world.

Geralt has spent many months away from Yennefer before ~ and with more than one sorceress, but there is no doubt that he is drawn to Yennefer in a wholly different way, and she to him. Easy? No, not at all... but essential.

Oh, and give me a shout if you want Lady of The Lake with most of the clumsy translation wobbles refined. (Note it isn't a translation, as I don't have the original material to refer to, so I may have caused inadvertent drift from some of the refinements ~ I have endeavoured to minimise this possibility whenever possible, while improving flow though...)

I'm *nearly* done with it for now and will upload it soon (and then ask for the Tower of the Swallow to be pulled and replaced by a slightly modified version that I want to do to match the slightly different formatting I'm using in tLotL.)

Not too well at the moment, so it takes a bit of effort to put the time in, but I do hope to push it up before the weekend.

First of all, I don't want to start a firestorm, and I respect everybody's opinions, but I'm a little confused. I'm wondering if it's a matter of translation, or I'm just missing something. I've been reading the English translations of the books and, at least in those, Yennefer just comes across as an uptight bitch.
If its not just a matter of translation, then I really don't understand why so many people are saying they'll choose her over Triss in TW3. If it comes to that then I'm definitely going to choose Triss, because she at least seems like she cares about Geralt.

Thats the "facade" of her character. She has a lot in common with Geralt, and they are actually fated to be with each other. However thats just romantic bullshit; The truth of the matter is she is one of the strongest mage's alive, and I would rather have her heavy weight magic skills backing me up than Triss's welter weight ability.

@crimsonwarrior I'm not entirely convinced by the whole "fate" thing though. Call me a skeptic. Also, I am much more story-invested than gameplay-invested. I couldn't really care less about who's backing me up.

@Lieste, same as above. I would be interested in a fan translation of The Lady of the Lake! I am working my way through the books so I should get there soon.

Subject of dichotomy between destiny and choice is constantly brought up in the books and they never give a definite answer that either of those is non applicable. Because like in real life they both exist at the same time (i.e. the paradox of free will).

Ok... rather for me, there is no choice. Geralt has given everything to save Yennefer ~ both in the far past and throughout the recent history... I can't see him throwing that over for a flirtation with yet another sorceress. Triss might want more from Geralt, but it seems out of character for him to respond in anything more than a temporary way.

All right, looks like the thread is steering towards Triss vs Yennefer discussion, so I merged it with the already existing one.

This will be a tough choice. So far i have no preference, so i will choose whoever deserves it more in Witcher 3. I liked Triss in the books. She was somehow sweet, but I always thought that she is more loyal to the lodge than to Geralt/Ciri. I didn't like her in Witcher 1,but I think that's because CDProject Red did a bad job on portraying her. She had her "nice moments", but overall she seemed arrogant and manipulative. It didn't match with her description in the books. They captured her personality perfectly in witcher 2 however. She still had secrets and loyality doubts towards Geralt. But at the same time she was much more likeable.
Yennefer on the other hand is mostly arrogant and possessive, but I had never any doubt she is loyal to Geralt and Ciri and would never do anything to harm one of them. Looking forward to see how CD Project Red portray her in Witcher 3.

I don't know with who I will go, I like both, but I don't think that Yen will accept threesome proposal.. so I will go with emotion.
But knowing CDPR, this choice might be disclosed, aka you chose something, only after to find out that you left one of the girls in hands of fate.

This...
Then Geralt of Rivia appeared. A witcher leading a stormy life, and tied to her good friend
Yennefer in a strange, turbulent and almost violent relationship.
Triss had watched them both and was jealous even though it seemed there was little to be
jealous of. Their relationship quite obviously made them both unhappy, had led straight to
destruction, pain and yet, against all logic ... it had lasted. Triss couldn't understand it. And it
had fascinated her. It had fascinated her to such an extent that . . .
. . . she had seduced the witcher - with the help of a little magic. She had hit on a propitious
moment, a moment when he and Yennefer had scratched at each other's eyes yet again and
had abruptly parted. Geralt had needed warmth, and had wanted to forget.
No, Triss had not desired to take him away from Yennefer. As a matter of fact, her friend was
more important to her than he was. But her brief relationship with the witcher had not
disappointed. She had found what she was looking for - emotions in the form of guilt, anxiety
and pain. His pain. She had experienced his emotions, it had excited her and, when they
parted, she had been unable to forget it. And she had only recently understood what pain is.
The moment when she had overwhelmingly wanted to be with him again. For a short while -
just for a moment - to be with him.
And now she was so close . . .
Triss clenched her fist and punched the pillow. No, she thought, no. Don't be silly. Don't think
about it. Think about . . .
...basically encapsulates my like for Triss and dislike for Yen. I know Triss' obsession may seem a bit childish, but I like it and feel that it's a lot more of a healthy relationship than Geralt/Yen.

This passage shows that longing for Geralt and not having him brings out the worst in Triss, while Yen and Geralt being together brings out the worst in both. To me that's a no brainer. Yen is the kind of relationship you have as a youth, when you're adventurous and trying to find yourself. Triss is the type to settle down with.

I don't trust Triss enough to consider her a keeper. Honesty and loyalty are extremely important to me and she really rubbed me the wrong way in the books.

The real question isn't who is best for Geralt, it's could Geralt have an actual healthy, long term, romantic relationship while still being Geralt. :p

after the cosplay guides for both of them
I still stand by my choice: which is Triss looks way hotter than Yennefer and I like her personality a lot more (minus TW1 but thats because CDPR tried to go all Yennefer with her)
