"There's too much to do in this game. Woe is me."

Has anybody else seen these articles lingering around the internet? I've seen several from doing "News" searches for TW3, and they're genuinely starting to piss me off.

Here's just one example...

I'm bringing it up because what worries me is that some people might be taking them seriously. It's always the same spiel. Some scum-of-the-earth journalist with nothing better to write about whining about not having enough time on his hands to play the game. Talk about First World Problems, right? I can't speak for other people, but I when TW3 released, I was working a near-full-time job, working out 2-hours a day and about to take a few summer classes. I had plenty of time to play the game.

Having difficulty with time management (such a travail in the adult world, isn't it)? Here's a suggestion. Prioritize, make those tough decisions (much like you would in the game, wink wink). Do you really have to go with your buddies to the bar after work every day? Cut back on your other hobbies to make time for TW3. And if you're in some position where you really don't have enough free time to play the game, you shouldn't be complaining. The game didn't put you in your situation or make your schedule. Should've gotten the Order 1886. And here's a reminder: nobody is forcing you to explore all of the content. Doing otherwise will leave your Geralt well above the recommended level for completing the story.

I hope CDPR isn't taking editorials like these to heart, because this isn't real criticism. I think this game has come the closest to perfection in recent memory, but I guess you really can't please everyone. Then again, if it was a game you could beat over the weekend, everyone would by crying about how it doesn't engender the $60 price tag, which Witcher 3 does several times over.

Sorry if this is coming off as a bit douchey or aggressive, but I really don't like it when people complain about a good thing.

To each his own I suppose. I personally love games like this, open world, fantasy, and a lot of content, and Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played. I do agree with you. complaining about how big the game is is just stupid, nobody is forcing you to finish it quickly, hell nobody is telling you play it at all, you don't have time? Then play when you get time.

but is there simply too much of it for the average player?

He has a point though, sadly. I mean, if you look at the completion percentage of these long story driven games, the number is shockingly low.
Of course we all play through them religiously many times, but vast majority doesn't. Even though they bought the game.
But you're right, complaining about the size of an amazing experience is just stupid.

hahahahaha what a loser

honestly, i wish it'd never end. the length just about did it right for me - pacing a bit off here and there story blah blah blah, but seriously in regards to the amount of content in an open world game? golly gosh. if you want to dedicate your time to a game, you need to have the time to spare. by no means are CDPR asking you to give up your day job to play this game. It's literally recreational and a majority of the content is optional.

oh well, back to my annual replay of the witcher saga 8^)

There is never too much Witcher...With everything that belongs to it ;)
Only some "?" could be made better and more interesting...

Like all those spoils of war in Skellige?

Someone should probably tell the journalist about those.

I wouldn't go so far as calling some one the "scum of the earth" for voicing their opinion, but I agree with the op for the most part. Got TW3 on release and beat the main quest line two-three months later by playing it 2-4 hours a day. Started a second play through, but NG+ came out and since I was still in Velen I scrapped that file and started over. The problem these journalists have is the same problem most of the Western world has. The internet has made us (not me but you know what I mean) too impatient for our own good. We expect everything to have an immediate payoff instead of letting ideas linger and go on tangents. TW3 is a classic game in more than one sense. If you're looking for "McDonald's" this isn't the game for you.

Oh, I didn't mean anything against the author personally. I just generally have a strong dislike for journalists.

TW3 makes me feel that I'd spent my money on the right game... When comparing to many others titles in the market that makes you wonder if it's real... It's one of few games that I really made my money worth it

The problem is of course not the amount of content, but how it is structured to encourage meta-gaming instead of role-playing. A lot of that content could have been incorporated into the search for ciri and/or triggered after she is safe.

Articles like the one in the OP are also misleading. ALL games, not just the Witcher 3, have a big percentage of their total buyers not finish the game. Name me a RPG and I'll bet you the majority of people who bought the game have never, and will never, finish it.

I also can never understand complaining about there being too much to do in a game when that content is actually fun. I could understand the complaint if the majority of it just felt like filler (I'm looking at you, Dragon Age Inquisition). But when the content is top notch? Ridiculous.

I also like the part where the writer always has to toss in the "and none of my friends, who are all UBER HARDCORE GAMERS RAR, have finished it either" as if to strengthen his point. It's like when you hate a movie that is universally praised and so to make it seem like you're not the only one, you throw in "and all my friends hate it too" even if they don't, or even if you have no friends.

Lame article all around

(If the article was meant as tongue-in-cheek, however, kudos.)

You mean I get 200+ hours of game for 60 bux? How dare they!

On a more serious note. If a gamer thinks this game is too big, I have an idea. Save your game. Go get some exercise and fresh air then come back and play it again, when you are ready. Repeat.

Yep, can't really stand that type of complaint.
It's like when people complain because after the "big battle climax" the game doesn't end as they expected but introduces new story elements and goes on.

How the hell is that a bad thing?

What's worse about these sorts of complaints is that they offer a genuinely harmful feedback, in my opinion, distracting from what may be the real issues in the game.

I mean, I don't have any problem with someone criticizing, say, the fact that part of the content could be sub-par and feel like padding, or that the feeling of variety and diversity may be somewhat lacking after a while...
But if that's the case then *this* is the issue you should highlight, not "having too much game" in general, because you are addressing the issue from the wrong perspective and listening to your suggestion wouldn't solve anything, maybe even make things worse.

EDIT - And what's up with the recurring "I prefer short games because I don't have enough free time" claims, anyway?
Games don't come with an expiration date. If it's big it just means you could play it for longer. Now, if the problem is that most of what makes it big doesn't feel good enough, then once again you are failing to highlight the right issue.

I understand that RPG games do not appeal to everyone. Claiming that a game is "too long" just because you do not like them or do not have the attention span for them is just being disingenuous. If the OP wants a game that is an expensive money grab, has crap for content, and wraps up everything with a bow then invest in Destiny. Talk about hype marketing and lack of content!

This is the first time I read something about "the game is too long". Really, I just can't understand this as a problem.
