Which is hilarious because I thought Dishonored was mediocre at best. The hype machine behind it was ridiculous.

I like Dishonored very much, but it is short, with comparatively similar locations, and somewhat predictable plot. I like that the game offered two kinds of approach, and allowed for a complete non-detection/non-lethal playthrough. But after I finished two runs, with lots of combat on High Chaos and non-lethal/ghost on Low Chaos, there is simply nothing there for another run. I like this the Outsider guy (similar to some kind of one of the princes of Chaos from Chronicles of Amber), and the Universe in general, but in the game it wasn't even close to being fleshed out. I am glad I bought it only after price went down, and I payed only $30, not full $60.

Thief games are pretty damn long, with very varied locations, and much more interesting story. Given that combat is practically never a viable option, this franchise was built around stealth and story. I am afraid it won't be a main feature of the new game. I don't really see a point of cross-breeding old Thief concept and Dishonored concept. They are about different things, and should be kept apart.

Why would I? I don't get the objection. It's just a way to manipulate the environment. They're not OP, in my experience, because they're scarce, some lamps aren't affected by them, and you can miss.

I haven't played so I've no idea how good or bad it was. Unfortunately there is a huge hype machine behind just about any 'big' game these days. That wouldn't be so terrible if it was just the publisher doing it, but it's the churnalists too. It's often so bad I actually get embarrassed reading some of their pieces. Not as a play with words to describe it was bad either, but literally embarrassed.

Dishonored deserves credit because it's a very playable, smooth game, and they tried to do something creative- even if it leans heavily on games like Thief and Deus Ex- at a time when developers are churning out copy-paste buggy crap left and right. I loved it, and got 3 playthroughs out of it with 15-25 hours each. Can't really ask for more.

Hey hey, I wasn't objectified anything, just replying to a general statement about a game devices. I'm fine with the gameplay of your choice, certainly I am nothing to tell what is better and what not

I haven't even played the originals and Thief 4 looks too much like Dishonored. From what I've seen, this looks bland, uninteresting and has no real "soul" to it. It seems this team that made the game is trying very hard to stay relevant an it's a shame that this reboot did not do its best to be a genuine Thief game.

I suspect it not selling all too well.

Is it a hybrid of Dishonored and Tomb Raider (2013) now? Seven hells, things just keep getting better and better... />

Don't take me wrong. I like Dishonored, and I love Tomb Raider, and I love Thief series, the way I love cats, dogs, and fluffy bunnies. Only I wouldn't cross-breed cats with dogs and with fluffy bunnies. A result may be very funny but still atrocious.

Reading all that's just depressing, we'll be stuck with the same tiny levels from Thief 3, the games being designed around the players who refused to be challenged or learn the systems and we'll see footsteps. What I used to do is take advantage of these strange lumps of flesh on either side of my head to hear footsteps, apparnetly they've worked perfectly for a few hundred thousand years, who knew?

I give up, franchise is dead and buried, no point even complaining about it.

I wonder when the hardheads arrest this new Garret, do they demand he stick his hands down?

“We are working very hard to respect these different types of player. Honestly, it’s like, let’s say you are at home, you like to write, and you have a novel in your drawer that you would like to share. I’m pretty sure you don’t write for one guy; you want to make sure a lot of people would see the story."
Storytellers don't write with this intention at all. Either this man doesn't know what's up with storytelling, or he's just trying to justify the decisions of his outfit; I'm willing to say it's the latter case.

What a shame- it's possible to make an "accessible" game, but not alienate other types of players in the process.

Well, looks like Thief 4 is off the list. Moving on.

"At one point the camera cuts to third-person as Garrett climbs away from explosions along the side of a building. An explosion throws him free, he loses his grip and falls – when a quick-time event prompt appears to perform an 'aerial save', which sees Garrett throw is grappling hook at a grate, which finds purchase at the last second, so he can continue climbing."

Are you kidding me?! THIS is what we lost Stephen Russell for?

Screw you, Eidos. Just screw you.

Mhm. What little hope I had left for this reboot is now completely gone. No words for it anymore, it's just sad.

Give me a Dishonored sequel with better characterization and Thief can take flying leap for all I care.

This just keeps getting worse:

Jumping, climbing (with the use of the claw and rope arrows): restricted to some predesigned spots (eg. marked in the demo with the metal grates).

Leaning: restricted, only "contextual" (in predesigned spots).

Movement on some high surfaces (above the ground): restricted (Garrett is "glued" to the surface).

Ability to jump down or fall: restricted (Garrett needs to "unglue" himself with the use of "contextual" button or perform some "contextual" action, eg. 3rd person takedown).

They removed all the previous factions from the game.
They removed the original VO.
They made Garrett look like an emo gymnasist.

This is OK, they wanna have their own spin on lore/antagonists/atmosphere/context, let them try.

BUT THEN CAME E3.

All I have to say is:

1) 40xp for a headshot.
2) A QTE ridden, player-perspective changing, action-slow-mo escape sequence on a burning bridge with AC parkour thrown in.
3) an upgrade system for Garrett
4) fixed points in the environment, placed by designers for ropearrows to attach to

ad 1) where is my sickbag
ad 2) where is my stealthy, maybe action-y observe-plan-execute player-driven gameplay
ad 3) the main appeal to me was always that Garrett is a MASTER-thief. He is THE thief. He has no upgrades, the only way to make Garrett more awesome was that you - as the player - got better at the game
ad 4) they managed to have that gameplay element several years ago with a small team of developers and nowadays they wanna explain to me that this is due to limitations ? come on

bye bye

Look like my favorite stealth game series of all time just got completely ruined... Well that's just fucking great.

I honestly didn't expect much from Thief 4, but I expected to be at least be better than Dishonored and at least be on par with Thief 3: Deadly Shadows, but after the E3 that seems like wishful thinking.

In short: they had Stephen Russell on board, but they decided Garrett should be voiced by the motion capture stuntman instead.

I have no words.
Errr, yeah, because he couldn’t do the stunts himself and their motion capture technique records everything including facial movements. If they’d gone with him they would have had to do every scene twice.

Too bad. As far as i can see, Thi4f won't be "Thief" at all, except for name. I was seriously hoping for a revival here. One of the series i would love to see them revamped. Too bad innovations are not always a good thing. It was a first person looter, with emphasis on stealth. Sound had a critical, crucial role, much like how much visible you were. You had to combine tactics, stealth and observativeness, in order to proceed and succeed. You could, and you should even in some cases, ghost through entire missions, like the mansion of Gervaisius and the police station.

Why cannot companies stay with renovations alone, and abolish innovations and alterations for good? Also, i think the engine is unsuitable for a stealth game. Why don't they make an engine, similar to the DarkEngine? But still, i do not like at all the entire Square Enix thing. I think Eidos is brain-dead and zombified. Working mindlessly for them. Without self-will or awareness.

I'm confused. The Lord Regent comes back from the dead, Sokolov is apparently running the resistance, and Corvo, still grieving over the Empress, has developed a fetish for stealing stuff from women who kinda look like her.

I wish this game was called cheesy-non-guns-action-stealth game instead of Thief because then we wouldn't judge it too harshly, or expect too much from it.
