Things to try to get the game to work

Here are some of the things that had success with others, more then once, if you have some other that have worked for you, post them, i will add them to the list and delete your rely to keep it clean. Here are some of the things to try out to get it to work: Change your video driversChange display driversTry to play without sound cardUpdate your Motherboard Chipset drivers (Lots of you don’t even have them installed)Get the .net framework runtime from Microsoft. Version 1 2 and 3, not 3.5 they are just beta.Get Visual C++ Runtime (Vista 64 users need to install the x86 and x64)Reinstall Directx which you can find on The Witcher DVDUpdate Tages DriversClose any Anti-virus software (They are a pain with the game)Close any firewallUninstall any CD/DVD emulation software (Daemon tool, magic disc, etc…)Find Firmware update for your DVDrom. Or try another one. (LG have a lot of problems with the game)Run the game as AdministratorTry to install it in safe modeTurn off Adaptive Anti Aliasing in Your video card control center. If you are suffering crashes and disabling your anti-virus etc software doesn't fix them then try disabling EAX.You are Missing some Directx Dll's ? Follow this LinkIf I remember others, I will let you know.

This is my solution to my problem:problem: When starting up the game(right after I click on "launch game"), the screen goes black for 2 seconds, and then goes back to windows. I could play the game before patched and non-patched.Solution: I disabled the "windows audio" service, and enabled it again, and now the game works.(had to enable sound ingame again afterwards)

Just for reference .NET 3.5 is no longer beta, and will also install both 2.0 and 3.0 with SP1 for each.

Tried all of the above, and more. Shops open in an hour, gonna go down town and exchange it, see if by some chance its a dodgy dvd. Been really looking forward to this game, hopefully its the dvd.ps:ive seen people say they have had it working by changing the dvd drive,,ie getting a new one. Im not going to go to that extreme.

When I was using the 1.1a patch I completed the game twice without even one crash, now after patch 1.2 I can't go for 30 minutes without a crash.I have reinstalled the game, started a new game and the problem is still there. Just face it the 1.2 patch somehow made the game very unstable.Ariakas

here it is, so is the buck of blame gonna be passed onto my pc now? Despite it meeting the minimum requirments. Or is it time to admit the game is poorly optimized?

Are your 2 hard disk are 2 separate physical hard disk ? If so, you should install the game on the same disk than Vista (C:) and, create a new pagefile of 4095 min/max size to make it static on the d: drive. This will help for crash and for speed !!

Well...I've tried everything mentioned in this forum, so here's my issue. I'm posting here, because I seen something of interest. LG DVD drives have alot of problems with this game. Unfortunately...that's the drive I have. An LG GSA-4166B DVD burner. So here's my issue. I put the disk in...nothing happens. Maybe I have autorun turned off. So I go Start>Run...select the drive...hourglass...and then absolutely nothing. It shows the drive...but there's nothing there. I change it from 'Programs' to 'All Files'...still nothing. It's not reading anything on the disc at all! I removed the game...ran System Suite 8 to test the drive...and it passed as long as something else was in the drive...in this case, Scarface. Scarface runs like a champ. I put Witcher back in...and nothing. So I take it to Best Buy where I bought it earlier today...and their 'Geek Squad'...took it in their little 'hidden room'...and came back claiming they ran it on both a Vista system, as well as an XP SP2 system (which is what I have). No return...no refund...nothing. So...here's a breakdown of my system. Win XP SP2 Home Edition. 2 Ghz Ram. Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.13 Ghz x 2 processor (and thanks to this forum, the Hotfix is now installed, as well!), A Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum sound card, nVidia 7900 series vid card, and I'm running 2 Firewire 10,000 rpm drives set at RAID 0. I don't think it's my system, at all...but I haven't seen anyone else reporting this type of issue. Is this really a waste of $60? All because I have an LG DVD drive? Is there ANY help here? I would appreciate any help that can be given! Thank you in advance!

You can create a new page file in Vista by going to control panel > system > advanced system settings > advanced tab - performance settings > advanced tab - virtual memory changethen you uncheck "Automatically Manage paging file size for all drives. Select the second drive and put "custom size" and then click setYou will have to restart. After the restart you can select no paging file size on the the original drive to remove.Hope that helps.
