Those wondering about the PC version of Witcher 3, this might interest you.

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/cd-projekt-red-removes-ps4-vs-pc-comparison-video-details-differences-between-these-platforms/

This thread has gone to shit from my original intention, it was my doing, and I take full responsibility for it.

However with that said, I am wondering if anyone has anymore information about their being more NPC's on screen for the PC version. The website I linked seems legitimate, at least from what I can tell. However, google searching for the "more NPC's on screen for the PC version", I am not coming up with anything solid as of yet.

If you have information on this, please share, thank you.

Since the OP sent me a nicely worded PM, I'll let this thread stay open and bear with all the flamebaiting that comes with it. Just be warned that my tolerance for trolling and ad hominems is at a minimum.

Post only if you have something to say, make it concise.
Keep it civil.
Stay on topic.

Carry on.

Draw distance is a big one for me as well. I really dislike the "pop-in" effect, when games have their draw distance set too low.
I expect this will not be a problem with the Witcher 3 though, provided it does not suffer from the plague that other games have when you crank the distance up. (Flickering textures) CDProjektRed created their own engine for the Witcher 3 though, so I imagine they have a better understanding and more flexibility when it comes to tweaking certain things, which I'm happy to hear.

More Draw Distance and the removal of the pre-shaders (Blue - Skellinge, Brown - No Man's land and Yellow for the rest) as an option in the menu would be good.

The things, which would made the game perfect would be better textures, better SFX and so on. All these things, which could be better on PC. I don't need 60 FPS for a RPG. I could live with stable FPS under 60 with more options for the graphic. I'm hoping for mods. Or if it possible in the INIs: for an INI-Preset. :)

I want smoke back from chimneys when viewing cities from afar. Forward lit soft particles to make the smoke from big fires look awesome. Like they did in the VGX trailer. I really, really hope it can be enabled if it isn't already.

This is not a console port. The pc version will look and play the best.

Just saying but PC*with Ultra settings has 2K textures which is pretty good if you ask me.

My mods/tweaks wishlist for the game currently:

Draw Distance
35min Gameplay building/land tessellation
Screen Space reflections (and the Blood in the water effect they allow)
Full Ambient Occlusion on foliage
Forward-lit soft particles on smoke/fire effects

Things that I'll probably do myself for aesthetics, apply a mild/moderate sharpening filter with some saturation differences (to avoid messing with colors, just lighting contrasts) similar to the DarkD3 filter for Diablo 3.

My personal opnion is that CPR had two choices:

A: Lead with the PC version with all the advanced features, then try to port to console and work out what can and can't be done on two systems with greater limitations.

B: Lead with both XBONE and PS4, doing the best they could within the systems limitations, then porting to pc and increasing the obvious areas like resolution, view distance, textures, etc but without some of the more advanced features.

Now *if* they were faced with either of these options then from a business perspective you have to go with B because at the very least more fans get a great playable game.

This is just my own thinking and more than likely I am incorrect. But to me it would explain why some videos seem to show a closer parity between concole and pc.

Those could be very sensible options but it's also possible that these comparison videos are not accurate.

I thought that more users would feel spurned about this. Maybe "civil comments only" translates to placid acceptance only?

As a simple correction, no ENB mod will fix bad textures. To assert this in the same breath as you accuse others of not understanding modding is comical. I'm hoping for a "proper assets patch" sometime down the line, but comparing the 2013 assets to 2015 they're so completely different aesthetically I would be surprised if it could be brought up to snuff with that version.

My policy is typically to vote with my wallet when a dev does something I don't like, but this time I want to play the game badly enough -- and I'm still holding onto a shred of optimism that it won't be a console port. Here's to hoping!

Otherwise, I guess I'll start worshipping Larian. Though even they are making their big CRPG multiplat, which bodes sourly for the future.

How can they be? They don't have all the options enabled, they don't always show what settings they are using, the day 1 patch isn't released yet.
I'm not sure who can be trusted to actually show genuine PC footage. Making fake comparison footage to get views on their website and youtube ads is a good business. Also a reason why that previous comparison video was taken down.

All the gameplay, consoles included, looks amazing so far.

Some have probably already seen this - BUT...

Here's what we know so far.

Benzenzimmern Posted this:

We never switched the textures. On pc, you now have the option to activate "Ultra" quality textures with the full resolution. However, the difference that many people see with new and old footage was a strong sharpening filter in 2013 that looks awesome on screenshots and in short videos, but strains the eyes after a short while if there is a lot of movement (leaves and grass swaying in the wind as an example). That's why it was decided to tone that effect down. However, people who really want to have it can of course use the Redkit to change the environment settings. It's just a matter of taste.

Marcin posted this:

He then posted this:

http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threa...=1#post1661041

HE SAID this was from the PC VERSION. He did NOT STATE that this was the FINAL PC VERSION.

And also - if you read this article - He posted this: http://www.dsogaming.com/news/cd-pro...ese-platforms/

As Marcin noted, the differences between the PC and the PS4 version will be:

– draw distance
– framerate
– resolution
– exclusive features such as hairworks

Everything seems to be leading that the PC version should be able to hit the 2013 / e3 2014 video quality. HOWEVER no one has seen this in the past few weeks. The only video I can find that looks better than what we've been seeing is Angryjoe's preview build gameplay. Which is.. .here: (And to be honest, we don't even know what SETTINGS he has selected)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJpWBMH9EtQ - BUT even this has lower texture quality, and before anyone jumps on the youtube bandwagon. I understand YT compression, yada yada yada. HOWEVER, the 2013 / e3 2014 videos are all on youtube and they still look better.

The end. It comes down to - if you pre-ordered it and hate the recent footage, I would cancel it - wait for the first few weeks, see what INI tweaks can take place and see where the game goes from there.

The same was true for DAI (regarding more npcs on screen for pc). The downgrade in graphics doesn't interest me since that's not the main reason why I bought TW3.

To be honest the textures seem great to me all in all. The PC gameplay we've seen as of yet seems to be mostly lacking tessellation, draw distance and AO. There's some level of detail missing in terms of geometry (the famous gate tower ...) which is probably much harder to restore. And there's obviously the remaining fact that all these things might magically reappear thanks to the Day 1-Patch, even though I'd say it's unlikely.

However, the game still looks amazing. That's pretty much agreed upon even by the most unhappy downgrade-people. All I would've wanted is a more straight forward approach to be honest, all this guesswork is just mind numbing and doesn't help at all.

I believe these are features that are easier and quicker to upgrade if porting from console to pc. rather than removing advanced features and toning down settings when porting to console. Plus focusing on consoles means you handle two birds with one stone. It would be the sound business decision.

Neither did I, I bought witcher 3 for awesome world building and story. But I did carry out some nice upgrades for my pc for Witcher 3. Every now and then a pc game comes around that makes you think "right it is time to upgrade". Especially when the devs are pushing the awesome looking advanced effects.
