To begin at the beginning again...

I have begun to notice that it is important to follow up side quests before you do a single main quest.
So now I want to start at the beginning again and I've not even completed the game yet.
Am I the only one feeling this way?

What's the importance for sidequesting before mainquesting ?

I often feel that way about games, but I'm not feeling that way this time.
Maybe it's because I started out determined to do absolutely everything possible as I move along.

I've tried to track down every "?" on the map, and if I'm to low level to do it, I at least have it identified.
I'm level 12 now, and I'm still tracking down the "?"s as more seem to appear every time I think they are almost finished.

I think I'm going to move on soon, I just finished the Bloody Baron, part of the game and am supposed to find a boat to someplace.

I have done it... I was too anxious to see what the end of the game would be like, and when I finished the main quest about 90% I restarted, because I had rushed the game too much. Also I had romanced both Triss and Yen, which would result in an awkward scene at the end of the game... also made some other decisions that I didn't like. Also I wanted to do the game on Death March. The normal difficulty felt too easy.

An example with no spoilers:

You do a main quest with a character, that makes his or her storyline progress further in the game.
Then you do a side quest after, which could had progress even further if only the character from the main quest had not progressed further in his or her storyline.

@dremvar, how long since you started playing from the beginning on Death March?

You mean missable sidequests ? I think I have quite a few, seeing ppl posting quests that I don't recognize, but could be because I forgot.

No.

I mean side quests you do, and on the end of that side quest.. you would have another option to follow (but you won't and it won't even mention it) as that character has progressed further if you've done his or her main quest.

Exactly 3 days ago, and I did only the main quest for Velen by now... am still doing sidequests in Velen. Haven't even touched Novigrad or Skellige yet. This game has so much content. I'm going to thoroughly do all the sidequests, interweaving them with the main quests.

That's cool! I'm going to start over today. What kind of style do you have? Skills?

I actually had to force myself to slow down from doing main quests. No way I could get that far through the game and restart :)

My style of playing is hard to put into a few sentences. Combat style depends heavily on the opponent... I use Yrden, Igni and Axii a lot in combination. What else do you mean with style? Combat style? It Death March you have to use different combat styles against different opponents to be successful.

I felt like the new playthrough would be better if I hadn't seen the end yet.

I agree with that, better to start a new playthrough before you've seen the end.. and I've not been on the island yet, so there some motivation there when starting over.

But I was thinking more about where you put your first skill points.

I do understand this. Wish I could forget the game and experience the story again. I'm having a lot of fun on a second playthrough with a different build and making different choices, as well as just having fun exploring the map.

Went for refreshment in alchemy (second skill), I find the instant health bonus in battle really useful when using swallow. Then put points into Yrden, and some into Igni, to reach Pyromaniac, which I find to be really useful. I use Axii as well but didn't sink a lot of points into it. Except some in delusion to get the dialogue options.

Indeed... wish I could erase all of the storyline from my memory as well.

I think it is easier to start over in this game because there are so much you can miss out on and there are many dialogue options and there is so much content that it's actually hard for me to keep it fresh in my memory.

Shocking how much time you can spend in a city like Novigrad.
But this time around I'm going to take a more slow approach to the areas like Velen and maybe take some baddies.

I'll try to avoid doing quests that have higher level than the other quests I have.
Because that is what happened when I messed up something... ugh.. did a main quest higher level than a side quest and then much longer afterwards I knew something wasn't right and there was some options not showing because I ... yeah.

If you do all side quests you'll end up way over levelled for the story quests when you reach Novigrad. I've already restarted, the first time I tried exploring and doing side and the ? Points of interest in Velen and reached Novigrad at around 15/16, all main quests were around 12 and way too easy. This time doing mainly story quests I got to Novigrad at 11 but still feel like I'm outpacing the story, at the moment I'm Level 17 and still doing level 12 story quests.

The problem with quests in this game is the quest level is inconsistent, the first time I played on reaching Velen I encountered a side quest for level 33, then on reaching Novigrad I found one for level 2, that's just absurd. Again you will not be able to complete every point of interest in Velen without moving on as some are end of game level as in the side quest I just described.

If you play on death march, many level 12 quests can contain monsters that will easily take a third of your HP in a single hit at your level. It is better to be a bit overleveled in death march. You should switch difficulty. I found the normal one to be too easy all around.
