If you do all side quests you'll end up way over levelled for the story quests when you reach Novigrad. I've already restarted, the first time I tried exploring and doing side and the ? Points of interest in Velen and reached Novigrad at around 15/16, all main quests were around 12 and way too easy. This time doing mainly story quests I got to Novigrad at 11 but still feel like I'm outpacing the story, at the moment I'm Level 17 and still doing level 12 story quests.

The problem with quests in this game is the quest level is inconsistent, the first time I played on reaching Velen I encountered a side quest for level 33, then on reaching Novigrad I found one for level 2, that's just absurd. Again you will not be able to complete every point of interest in Velen without moving on as some are end of game level as in the side quest I just described.

Being able to complete side quests and things is more important to me than being the right level in Novigrad or anywhere.
But.. when playing on Death March, you can get hit 3 times and you're dead when a Witch Hunter is level 11 while you are level 17, so.. It's not all bad.

:) See someone already said this, but yeah.

I think the great thing about this game is the replay-ability I hear there's no NG+, but that's okay I'll just start from the beginning on death march, and try the options I didn't choose. Now that the game is fairly stable I'm having an Aard!

I always have this issue with big RPGs, when I am learning the game i make choices that later on I regret and I want to start over. But I decided to stick to my guns this time and just complete a run through the main story as focus and do some of the side missions. And I am glad I did as I still had a great time and now I am soon going to start a new game. Make some different choices and fix some of the mistakes I did the first time.

You have to power through that initial urge to start over, or you can get locked into a bad circle of starting over and over again. I did that with Skyrim and it took me almost a year to finish the main story :S

The thing, apart from freakin' bugs in Skyrim though was I never felt I had to micro manage quests. The quests were more linear in regard to difficulty, as you levelled the quest kept pace, more or less. You could wander into an area that was way too difficult but in general quests were balanced. I love the Witcher series but I never felt, playing the previous games, pressured into managing them the way I do in this game.

in general I feel the quests aren't balanced to the player, I keep thinking I have to do these low level quests otherwise they aren't going to be worth doing. If I have to set the game on the highest difficulty in order to be challenged then there's something wrong in the quest progression difficulty. That's just my opinion though, don't flame me for expressing it.
