To the North American owners ,which langauge Geralt is speaking in your game?

To those who owned the EE or those who download the language pack in North America, I am wondering what subs and speaking language you choose for your game? I run my first game with Geralt speaking English ....but after got the EE I switched Geralt to speak Polish and subtitle it to English. I heard many people says they would want to listen the original Polish accent as it is developed by Polish company.Just only one very small thing I notice, I heard that while Geralt was speaking in English his voice is more emotional, rather when he speaking in Polish he sounds like he doesn't care the things happening around him anymore. I then switch him back to the English speaking voice. I know by rule , original means the best, but just in this time, I personally prefer the English voiceover over the original one. Wondering whether you guys feel the same?

Maybe you get the impression because you don't understand Polish? Have you tried an other foreign language?btwWelcome in the Witcheworld

*blink* That's an interesting story! Geralt is hardly Mr. Wildly Emotional in English; it's hard to imagine that he'd be way less emotional in Polish. I wonder if it only sounds that way because the language is unfamiliar?A dear friend of mine who no longer frequents this board due to illness used to say that hearing the Polish Geralt was like hearing James Earl Jones do Darth Vader. Another actor could probably have done a good job with Vader, but there's only ONE James Earl Jones. (I haven't heard the Polish version, myself, so I'm just reporting what I was told.)Thanks for posting this -- you've reminded me that I wanted to play the game in other languages. The last time I played, I was trying to get the rhythms and forms of expression right in English for a new adventure I'm making, but maybe once that's done, I can indulge myself in a language binge. :DThere's an old thread about listening to the Polish voices; I'll see if I can turn it up for you; you might find it interesting.

Geralt is restrained in all of the languages that I have heard him speak--English, German, French, Polish--but all of the voice actors have more or less subtle vocal cues that let you know what emotion is at work behind what is said. It's just that each language and regional accent creates different cues because each has its own patterns of emphasis. I think it's fun to play around with different language settings for just that reason. Remember, too, that different voice actors will have received different direction for the same in-game moments.

My North American EE version defaults to English, of course, and that is what I play the most, but it's really the non-Geralt characters that keep me going back to it.

Hi all thanks for all the replying. You guys are right, I also felt my opening post is very biased , since my mother tongue is Japanese.... I have 0 understanding to the Polish or Russian language. So I would like to take my words back. but as you guys said, It would be very cool to play the game with different languages on. In fact just like any other Witcher's fan this game has to be played twice to fully enjoying the dark gritty plot. ;D

… to play it at least twice. There are more things & secrets to discover which you will miss because you don't know or because you choose an other path.Don't worry when you think you were biased with the Polish language. Things like that happen. I don't know French (anymore, I had 2 years French a looong time ago). I still associate French language with "pleasant things": excellent food, entertainment (Moulin Rouge) and beautiful places Champs Élysées, etc.* Hence I can't imagine French language may sound aggressive. I tried the French voice-over but when NPCs are angry, it doesn't really sound angry to me :hmmm:* I know it's cliché ;D

And just the sound of various languages sounds like a certain aspect of one's own language. People speaking German always sound angry to me, because the sounds used in the language are ones that are used in more angry/unhappy words in English. Geralt could say, "I've decided that Triss is the love of my life" in German, and I'd think he was pissed off about something. We all do stuff like that, so you needn't apologize, Arzemordom. As far as I'm concerned, a player whose native language is Japanese who manages to play in English deserves only respect!I used to teach a course called The Psychology of Stereotyping and Prejudice, back when I was a professor. It turns out that only some stereotypes are caused by mean-spirited people who are trying to put other people down. A lot of stereotypes are caused by the fact that there is simply too much information coming in at once for any one brain to handle, so our brain uses tricks and short-cuts to try to reduce the incoming flood of information to a manageable load. Most of the time, this is a good thing, but it can trip us up. Germans are not always angry, French can be used to talk about unpleasant things, Polish Geralt has feelings. But the most important thing in our day-to-day life is to understand the emotional nuances being expressed in our native tongue, and the ability to do that is important enough that our brains are willing to put up with the occasional mistake we make about speakers of languages we don't understand. And even when we all speak the same language, culture has a big impact. Just the other day, I said something to my husband along the lines of, "I get the sense that Person X doesn't like me very much, and that's rather a shame, since I like Person X." He said, "Didn't you say that Person X is German?" "Well, yeah, but what's that got to do with it?" He said, "Germans always sound as if they don't like you very much. Unless they sound like they hate your guts, Person X probably likes you just fine." (Edited to add: No, I was right the first time.)Humans. It's a wonder we ever manage to understand one another at all. :D

As for myself, I have the french version of EE.Until now, I played in whole french.Just a few days ago, I restarted the witcher and I have put the voices in polish, and the subtitles in english. I really like the polish voiceover, I think it fits the witcher more. And I have not noticed what you say, we can hear emotion, but as someone told, this is because each language has its own subtilities... I have tried french back, and I did not like the french voices anymore, not really geralt voices, but I prefer vesemir polish voice than french one, and same apply for most NPC.I never heard polish before, but I find this a beautiful language, and I think it fits the witcher a lot :)

I used Russian voices. Geralt's voice imo is best in the Russian version, deep, hard and emotional. I tried Polish but they seemed to speak too much and out of sync, English is a bit flawed.

"A bit flawed" is pretty general; could you be more specific?

Right now, Witcher is voiced and sub-titled in English for me.I did download the Polish audio pack, though -- of course, since this game originally came from there. When I play through a third time, I'll probably voice it in Polish w/ English sub-titles.

I choose English for several reasons, English the only language I speak, it's my favorite language, Geralt's voice sounds the best in English.
