Too many mods?

Too many mods?

Is there a limit to how many mods you can have? My game started to not want to load past 15-20 percent of the bar, so i did some testing. Reinstalled and removed this and that mod to find the one that broke the game. After trial and error, no one mod or particular combo seems to be a problem they all worked at one point or another with now obvious conflicts. Turns out once i went past 50 or so mods in the folder is when it stopped wanting to load. So anyone else encountered this or heard anything along these lines?

50 mods? are there even that many decent mods..? :p

But no I've not heard of any limit, this would be news if there was one. You could possibly merge mods into one, especially script mods. Non script mods will need to be unpacked then repacked into a single bundle, probably, or maybe you can throw all the bundles in a single folder and generate a new metadata store file *shrug*.

Well new info, i installed reshade/sweetfx and even without the mods installed it causes it to hang up at same point so now i don't have any idea.

So it's probably due to a bad reshade install or corrupt system files (old mod install)
If there is a mod limit you can always merge the scripted ones into one overall mod, but i don't think (as the game is recompiling each time) that could even happen

The mods.settings file - the file you can create to set load order and activity state of a mod supports a priority up to 9999
As there is no limited address handling involved as it is e.g. in Creation Engine (Skyrim,...) games, insted you are creating the namespace yourself for each mod (actually the mod maker). There is no indication for a limit, if there is one, it should be a 2 to the power of n number.

This is exactly what I am experiencing at the moment. Did exactly what you did, one by one, found that a certain number of mods is the reason for infinite loading, I will do some counting and let you know what the number is for me

Edit: For the record I am also running a reshade preset - E3FX Revisited, will try removing that and let you know as well

EDIT #2: Took out Reshade but left all the mods on - Did not work, game still loads infinitely. To be specific, I am running 72 mods at the moment.

---------- Updated at 01:40 AM ----------

The big problem is that the only way to get the game working again is to uninstall the game, restart the computer, reinstall, then restart again, and fire up the game. Absolutely no idea why this is the case, but it makes testing very difficult because now I can't just remove a set amount of mods and see if it works. I must now reinstall/reboot and then only enable a certain amount of mods.

mmm well ok, a good amount of those are just tiny changes... I guess I'm spoiled with Skyrim :)

There definitely is a limit, at least when it comes to mods that applies changes to textures.

When the limit is reached the game will automatically disable the texture mod that got loaded in first. If you try to counter this with your mods.settings file you will start getting visual bugs and if you keep on adding texture mods from this point you will eventually get stuck on an infinite loading screen when trying to load your save file.

There is a mod limit as I used to have around 55 or 56 mods installed containing both script mods and texture mods. Then I started getting the infinite loading screen problem. I reduced my folder count down to around 35 putting all the script mods under one mod folder, but keeping the original folder path for each script file. This helped with the infinite loading screen problem. But you can still run into too many graphic textures mods, because I cant use the Triss Face LOD file since I use MKM Triss Face Texture no matter if I sent the Triss Face LOD mod to first or last. Also I have a problem using anyones Reshade graphics mods. I always get darker lighting in the game. Even if I turn the gamma setting all the way to bright the game is still dark like I have the gamma setting at 30 to 40%. Anyone else experience this? Do I have to reset all graphics settings before installing a Reshade graphics mod?
