Too stupid for RedKit?

Well, I naivly, as it seems now, thought i'd be able to create my own The Witcher 2 adventures and start my modding "career". Turns out I'm completely overwhelmed with the whole kit. Read all the tutorials, but still it seems it's too high for me.
I am able to create the default size map (if I change the settings, the whole suface of the map turns from white to black and I'm unable to alter anything about it) and give it some shape and color, but thats about it. I also managed to plant a pine once (the crown stuck out of the surface, the stomp was simply not visible) but never again.
Now, is there someone who could and want to teach me me the high art of creating my own mods. I have loads of ideas, but I'm unable to execute them.
I am not willing to give up, but it seems that I need someone to help me with this.

Thank you for your time and patience in advance

Well I'll suggest you to wait until somebody releases a video tutorial, it might be easier to understand .
That a good thing that you not willing to give up, start from small (I mean really small, ambitions can screw you modding experience) that way you'll be able not just start your mod also to finish it. :)
I still need to look into redkit to say some thing specific on your problem.

I feel the same way, I have Moded and made levels in other games before, this program may be out of reach for most people. i did not go to school for this, and the Wiki is a bit thin.

Before Redkit I had this much modding experience: Skyrim Creation Kit - 2 Days
I am sure you will be able to do something with just a little patience. I had near to 0 experience and even less tutorials when I started in the beta and I am definitely not some kind of modding genius. You should not expect that you can start modding heavily on your first day of trying things out.
It would be a good idea if you watched the video tutorials by Klabautermann (you can find them in this forum). He explains everything from the start.

Just be patient, if things don't work out as expected, start again, or...like I do sometimes, mess around without any goal, and you might get something new. You need alot of patience in case of SDK's, might take weeks before you master the basic setup of scene, depends of your will.

I can also recommend the Tutorials from Klabautermann. A really good start into the RedKit.

Here is a link to his channel:

I can understand your feeling, the same thing happen to me the first time I started to use UDK...at the beginning it was a nightmare, but the more you experiment with it the more you learn from it.
Tutorials definitively helps. but explore the engine on your own is a very good way to fully understand whats going on...
I'm sure that, as for Skyrim, this engine could "sit" beside the Skyrim creation kit for sure :)

First rule - be persistent, be stubborn. Working with engine editor isn't easy, especially when it's a new one without good manual/documentation. But hey, you already have head start, you're one of the first who started working with it, so you're already ahead of everyone who didn't. There is a really good video tutorial from Klab, it's in german with english subtitles but it's all about following things he clicks and things he change.

Anyway - camera movement inside UI is a bit stiff, it's different than in UEngine, CryEnginge or even Unity and sometimes I just lose control of it, they should add "reset view" shortcut.

Thank you for all your replies. The videos of Klabautermann helped a lot, especially since they were in german. I'll progress as he brings out new videos.

Hey one thing I do as well, I'm still learning, I always experiment. I load/make a world which I'm not worried about screwing it up and then start experimenting, moving things like crazy, the only thing I don't do is to change the properties of anything inside the Data folder whitout backups.
Experiment and be patient, I think you and I are the same, new comers to any modding tool who have big ambitions, but as someone said before, start small, make a very very simple mod and then start going bigger.

PS: big tip, ALWAYS!!! ALWAYS!!! save, whenever you change anything you wouldn't like to do again, save, save,SAVE!! REDkit loves crashing and it does it in no pattern, just random.
