In no particular order:
- The Matrix
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- Inception
- The Fifth Element
- Children of Men
- Cloud Atlas
- The Terminal
- The Raid
- Kung Fu Hustle
- Groundhog Day

Special Mention:
- Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended (too long to put onto the list)

PS. Yes, I am a sucker for sci-fi and fantasy movies.

I've grown a liking on artsy movies after my 25's (the past 12 or so years). I used to think they were lame and boring and sometimes undecipherable, but... perceptions change, and now I'm completely of the opposite belief.

I'm not a massive movie watcher, but I can probably find a top 10.

1. Forrest Gump (have it on DVD and love love LOVE it no matter how many times I watch it)
2. The Birds (only seen once, over a decade ago, but I still remember it because of how good, and scary, it was)
3. The Harry Potter movies (some are way better than others, but I don't want to rank them separately)
4. Hellboy II (same as with Forrest Gump)
5. Love Actually (can't believe I actually forgot about this; it's a wonderful movie)
6. Casino Royale (the 2006 one, with Daniel Craig)
7. The Lion King (the 1994 one, have no interest in the remake)
8. Jaws
9. Night at the Museum, both 1 and 2 (don't judge, they're hilarious)
10. Ice Age (at least the first one)

For #7-#10 I had to think hard to remember anything worth listing.
And I probably forgot about something that ought to be higher up than Rubber. :ROFLMAO: Oh yes, I did indeed.

Heh, I am the complete opposite. I used to watch artsy movies, together with all other movies, but now I don't care much for it. Movies need to be entertaining and/or impressive.

Schindler's List is a painful movie to watch. Not because it's bad, the opposite, it's a masterpiece. However, I am not motivated to watch it again. The most recent example of this is The Joker. That was a brilliant but depressing movie. Now, let's take the complete opposite: Mad Max: Fury Road. That movie is style over substance and then some. When I've finished watching it, I can watch it again right after.

On a related note, when delving in anime, Princess Mononoke is one of my favorite movies of all time (and Spirited Away). The same studio (kinda) also made Grave of the Fireflies. That movie, my heart still hurts because of it. It's a classic, but I don't really want to watch it again, unlike the other two mentioned.

I don't remember every good movie i ever watched, so he are 10 amazing movies/franchises that came to my mind.
In no particular order:
MCU - we all know them and we all love them :)
DC animated movies - surprisingly good, especially JL Dark
LOtR and Hobit - the best fantasy movies ever
Harry Potter - everyone loves Harry Potter :)
How to train your dragon - it always makes me cry
I, Robot - IMHO the best sci-fi movie ever
The other guys - my favourite comedy, very underappreciated
Bad Boys - amazing action movies
Supertroopers - another underappreciated comedy
Páni kluci ( i think the english name is: Gentlemen Boys) - the movie of my childhood

Oh hey, I am in complete agreement with "movies have to be entertaining" and "Schindlers' List is painful for the right reasons" and "Mad Max: Fury Road is style over substance and then some". I absolutely am. :D

But then, I find movies like "Mother!" and "Dogville" to be highly entertaining precisely due to their subject matter. By artsy I do not mean simply visually fantastic. Elsewise I'd probaly consider the LoTR movies most artsy movies of all time, which they most certainly are not. Most certainly not.

No, when I say artsy, I say precisely substance over style, BUT within reason because style is sometimes part of the substance. It isn't a black and white thing.

Anyway, good commenting. I wish this sort of thing continues in the thread! :)

MCU - we all know them and we all love them
Uh, strongly disagree with the "we all" statements.
I find superheroes dull, and I don't even know which ones are Marvel and which ones DC. Never watched a single one though I was literally offered a chance to go see Deadpool.

Harry Potter - everyone loves Harry Potter
The series is magical. :p

- Shutter Island
That movie will probably never stop confusing me. I liked it a lot but I didn't fully understand it. :D

In no particular order and off the top of my head: Gladiator, Interstellar, Harry Potters, Dark Knight, Pineapple Express, Lion King, The Matrix, Ghost In The Shell (Anime), Spirited Away, Avatar.

Those are just the ones that I first thought about.

In no particular order:

-Snatch
-Batman (Nolan trilogy)
-Fight Club
-Kingdom of Heaven(extended Cut)
-The curious Case of Benjamin Button
-Inception
-12 Monkeys
-Blow
-Jackie Brown
-Troy (extended Cut)

Well I actually like Johnny Depp a bit more but Brad seems to have the better Movie Collection overall.

  1. The Lord of the Rings (I’ll consider the three as a single entry)
  2. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
  3. Pan’s Labyrinth
  4. Gladiator
  5. Solaris
  6. Blade Runner 2049
  7. Amores Perros
  8. V for Vendetta
  9. The Truman Show
  10. Hot Fuzz
This list of mine might not be the most thought-out one I’ve ever done but it does reflect my tastes pretty well, I think. I do feel bad about letting films like Se7en, Perfect Blue, Paprika, and The Shawshank Redemption out of it, though, but the competition was rough. Yeah, even against Hot Fuzz :p (What can I say? I looove that movie.)

1. Dogville
[...]
8. Melancholia

A fan of Lars von Trier, I see. Melancholia is my favorite one of his (one of the most beautifully sad films I’ve ever seen), although I’ve only seen that one, Antichrist (pretty great too but hard to recommend to most people), and Nymphomaniac (a great movie... to make one feel like s**t ). I’d like to see Dancer in the Dark someday.

- Les Visiteurs (The Visitors)
[...]
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I love those too! ...Mmm, perhaps I should post a top 10 per genre (comedy, action, etc.) soon, if I can find the time

Movies i really liked from what i can "vaguely" remember

-Snatch
-Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
-The Hateful Eight
-Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
-Fargo
-Identity
-The Usual Suspects
-The Negotiator
-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
-Rush Hour
-LOTR
-The Matrix
-Die Hard

some of those are series so i grouped them together

Oh yes. A big fan. (y)

Only a couple of his earliest films I’ve not seen because I haven’t found them.

Eagerly waiting what becomes of that ”etudes” project of his.

Don’t want to spoil your fun, but Dancer in the dark is definitely not a movie for happy thoughts even though it’s something of a ”musical”.
