Because Vault Dweller a)has designed a game(Age of Decadence) b)is not retarded.

Real-Time with pause vs Turn-Based

I'm still undecided. I actually enjoy the RTwP combat in BG but I also think nothing surpasses a well designed turn-based system. As inXile says, some Numenera concepts are better (possibly only) implemented through turns.

One main thing critics of turns forget is that fights do not have to be tedious or frequent. Each encounter can and should be unique and exciting and provide ample room for planning and tactical thinking. I think some backers never played anything better than NWN.

I'm leaning towards turn-based. However this poll worries me: shouldn't inXile decide what's best for the game/system they are designing? Why is there a poll for such an important element that can only be chosen by those who know the game, lore and mechanics?

I think it's important to mention what they said in the e-mail:

Please remember that this vote is advisory only. Above all, please remember that our goal is to provide the best possible experience for the game, and if the final decision is not your preferred choice, we ask you trust our ability to deliver a solid game.

TB combat is winning. Kneel and repent RTwP voters and you might be spared.

Hey Pangaea!

Why RTwP? I haven't voted but I will go for turn-based. It's just... better :)

Well finally voted. Turn-based it is.

For those who think TB is slow, just remember: a GOOD cRPG doesn't need lots of filler combat. Each encounter can be deeply tactical and exciting.

I do remember some tedious TB encounters in Fallout 1. Especially killing rats and that big fight at LA Boneyards, where there are lots of civilians and creatures roaming the streets and EVERY FUCKING BODY gets into turn-based mode.

I am POSITIVE they learned their lesson though. And this game is made by the very creators of the (PnP) RPG and setting, so I'm positive they will come up with interesting mechanics and situations.

I was tempted to vote rtwp at first, but i too voted turn-based in the end.

Yes, I voted for turn-based as well. I just think that some of the other systems they want to implement would work better with this type of combat.

Turn-basde won: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/torment-tides-of-numenera/posts/686723

If any combat situation in Torment were tedious, it wouldn’t be because it's turn-based. It would be because we failed in our goal. And our Crises aren’t just combat. They contain exploration, dialogue, and time-relevant actions and events that can exist outside of combat, like pursuits, environmental puzzles, and application of special skills. You’re going to have to work throughout the game toward your goals, and the Crisis concept is a primary way that we put your intentions to the test.

If you backed or are just interested you might want to head over to the Tides of Numenera site at InXile entertainment, it's been redesigned with a first glimpse video that looks stonking and the option to give some more input and info on the rewards you've chosen.

Some say the RPG genre is dead. Some say gamers hate to read. 83,000 Torment fans disagree.

Glorious! And it appears you can still back the game.......and there is an option bundled with Wasteland 2 :p I'm assuming the vague DRM-free copy of the game is from GOG.

As a side note, there is just something so amazing about the way the textures and models fit in with the camera, its as if I could just pick up that dinosaur-thing and put him in my pocket.
