Kovir Chapter II
Recognizing how close he came to losing his life Geralt was hesitant to revisit the ordeal, but he knew he had brought tears to her eye and he had to find a way to ease her fears. He felt and heard her reaction to seeing him on the floor although he could not respond. He experienced her ordeal in all its horror while being unable to comfort her. Whispering her name softly as he pulled his lover closer, they locked gazed and for a moment the Auburn hair Fox and her White Wolf drifted into a world meant for two.
“We never get a break. I thought I had lost you Geralt, I felt so helpless and lost when I saw you wounded and covered in blood” She said softly
Looking into her eyes hoping his words could offer some reassurance he said, “I love you Triss. Your words brought me back from the edge. When I thought all was lost my greatest fear was leaving you with any doubt that you were always the one”
“And I love you Geralt always have, and always will, but you already knew that Witcher. We had to work for our happy-ending and I am not willing to give up without a fight. I give up on use once and it almost cost me everything and brought me nothing but pain” She responded
Wrapped in the warmth of the White Wolf’s arms and exhausted from watching over Geralt day and night for a week, the Auburn hair Fox quickly drifted to sleep. Tightening his grip around his lover as she slept in his powerful arms ad realizing he had found someone truly special the Witcher smile.
As if reliving the horrors of her impending departure on the docks of Novigrad, a sudden uneasiness, and fear grip the Witcher. This was a familiar feeling and he remembers it well. He has never felt such fear and uneasiness on a hunt as monster slaying was his profession. In the past, the thrill of the hunt was enough to keep him focus. Lately however, the White Wolfs desire to return to the Fox was his sole motivation.
“What is this feeling?” He ask himself
The feeling of despair and loss not for himself, but for the woman he loves so dearly. The last time he felt such hopelessness was on the docks of Novigrad when he thought he had lost her forever.
Staring at the sleeping Sorceress and admiring her enchanting beauty, his thoughts were filled with regrets and self-doubt. He regretted missed opportunities they could have shared and the years it took him to realize how important she is to him. He doubted his ability to give her the happiness she deserves.
Since her capture at the hands of the Witcher Letho, Geralt carries the guilt and blame for her torture at Loc Muinne and her treatment at the hands of the Nilfgardians. He bears the blame for being unable to protect her. In his quest to rescue his lover, he had slaughter an entire Nilfgardian encampment. In the end, he was unable to spare her the horrors of a Nilfgardian dungeon.
Geralt had always viewed his lover as an independent and fierce woman. On many occasion she had demonstrated her resolve. Despite mistakes in the past, she had many beautiful and redeeming qualities. She was caring, always placed the needs of others above her own, she was humble, and above all, her love for the Witcher was unconditional. She arranged the mages escape from Novigrad, subjected herself to the witch hunter’s torture to aid him, and later demonstrated her bravery during the battle at Kaer Morhen.
By his side, she experienced his pain, and comforted him when the Witcher Vesemir a fatherly figure to both fell valiantly in battle. She loved the old Witcher and his death was devastating. The old man death reminded Fox that Witchers although strong and powerful in many regards are mortal. Geralt also blames himself for many hardships she endured in Novigrad during their short but difficult breakup.
In truth, despite the hardships and the difficulties she faced, the Sorceress loved the Witcher, and felt an unmeasured sense of safety and security whenever she was with him. By her side, the Witcher was always himself. In his presence, she never had to wear a shield or put up walls.
“Asleep, tired and worn out from caring for me. It has been a week and she still has not left the house or my side. She spends the week caring for me and cleaning up the mess I made. She is always placing the welfare of others above her own. Together we will make our happy-ending Triss, I promise. Maybe it is time I stop taking Witcher contracts and focus my attention on making you happy. I don't want you to experience this again; I don’t want to see those tears.”
Speaking softly Geralt said... “I'm sorry Triss for putting you through this.”
Still sleeping and obviously dreaming of him, she mutters...”Hmm... Be careful Geralt”
“Triss...” He whispered in a low voice
Opening her eyes she replied “Sorry Geralt, I must have fallen asleep...Yes Geralt, anything wrong”
As if overcome with regret and sadness the Witcher gazed at his lover and said, “Forgive me Triss, it took me too long to see you”
“Geralt there is nothing to forgive, we are here, I am your wife, and I love you. Beside I am always patching you up silly. I was afraid Geralt, afraid for us. I love you so much and I cannot imagine my life without you by my side to support me.”
“You never have to imagine such a things, all I want Triss is to be by your side and make you happy,” He said softly
“Just being with you and sharing these moments is enough”
Playfully she remarked “On second thought, I should get my revenge by taking advantage of you. It is no Elven bath but it will do.”
“mmHmm” He responded with a grin
The two lovers disappear under bedspreads for the remainder of the evening. For the first time since his injuries, the Witcher and his lover were able to have a romantic evening, unusual because the two lovers had spend days locked up unable to keep their hand off each other.
The next morning Triss wakes up to her lover whispering softly in her ears. “What do you think about me hanging up my swords for good Triss?” She turned around with those fiery blues eyes to meet his gaze and responded... “Don't be silly Geralt, you are a Witcher and if you are not waist deep in swamps killing drowners or fighting griffins in some remote cave you will turn into a grumpy old man, and we can’t have that can we?” Besides, your services are need around here.”
“I need your Witcher charms,” she said playfully
He paused for a moment and then said… “I’m serious Triss. I love the hunt, but your happiness is more important to me than a Witcher contract.”
“Laying there barely conscious in my own blood I could hear you calling, but could not respond. To think how close I came to losing everything, to losing you.” He said, gazing into her eyes
“I could never ask you to give up being Witcher Geralt; I would support you no matter what. You don't have to hang up your sword; I am willing to resign my position in the courts if needed to accompany you on your hunts.” She replied
“Maybe our next contract should be a Foxy Wolf duo” she said, teasing
“Triss... Now more than ever the King of Kovir needs good advisor like you to be successful in staying of northern aggression. Kovir is a sanctuary for mages and people oppressed in the north. With your help, it can remain that way Triss”
“I know Geralt but you are important to me too and I will not put you second to my work. I am serious Geralt, I want to be at your side and protect you on your hunt. Besides, we might find ourselves in another Elven bathhouse.”
Playfully the White Wolf and the Auburn hair Fox spend their time conversing about past adventures.
“Remember the last time we were in an Elven bathhouse together Geralt?”
“How could I forget, I give you a Rose of Remembrance back then too.” He said smiling
“I wasn’t referring to the rose Geralt,” She said
“I know what you meant Triss; I would love nothing more than to have you with me...at the Elven bathhouse.”
“Then its settled Witcher, the next hunt will be a duet”
“Agree, until you become tired of the hunt or my company. I will stick to local contracts and if anything big comes up we will handle it together.”
“Not in this life, I love everything about your company Geralt. Now that you are healed and well I have something for you. It’s not part of your surprise, just a gift.”
“What did I do to deserve a gift?” He said playfully
“You got hurt on your hunt, so I had the smith forge two silver daggers as protection should you ever find yourself absent your trusty silver sword.”
“Thank you Triss, I will never part with these”
