Wait. Are we equating Geralt/Yen to Ross/Rachel? Destiny?

Nono, it just came on my mind, when there was talking about how soon after Geralt/Yen break up he got together with Triss ;)

Kalel:
few points: 1) love is strange and even 40 years old woman can make mistakes, but I don't really see some big mistakes. She just didn't tell Yennefer. But as I said, that would be difficult.

2) About their partners - that is true, they have to live along with social habbits. They have to bahave some normal way, but I haven't seen any example of long-term relation-ship. Yen was also advisor, but even when she showed up for the first time, she had just one guy, because she used his house.
But monogamous? I think, that is true.
Swingers? I also don't think so.

Gossip and chit-chat.

.. my little joke :D
But if he (Yennefer) let him ... who knows ;) ??

Well, with whom should they do that anyway?

It's a blessing and a curse at the same time. They can outlive any normal human, dwarf and elf. They can look like they want, while their partner ages conditioned by nature.
So who remains? Sorcerers. And as we all know they don't really like each other, most of them just pretend to like the other colleagues.

Even if Geralt and Yennefer stay alive for an eternity, it will come the day, when he dies and she still looks like 27.

They can live forever, while everybody else they know and love will die in front of their eyes and they can't do nothing to prevent this.

I'd assume this is one of the biggest problem for them, right next to not being able to get children.

I don't think he would try it even with her permission.

I think the Yennefer vs. Triss debate comes down to whether or not you read the books (which were almost unbearably sad at times).

read books = Yennefer
did not read = Triss

Triss is portrayed much more positively in the game than the books, and having read the books I am having trouble separating the two.

I ‘m currently reading Blood of Elves and am loving Yennefer. I find her to be a fascinating character.

I like Triss as well, but she has been a bit manipulative and taken advantage of Geralt and Yennefer’s situation on more than one occasion.

Voted!
I am not suprised at all ;) .. very strong and so beautifull personality. She also has few darker sides of her, but who cannot love that story about her and Ciri from shrine of Melitelé? :)

With all due respect to your opinions, I have (and also Geralt has) to disagree ;) ..
It was one case and it wasn't her fault. She just waited until he was searching for another girl.. if I take that from another angle :)

So far I haven't read many details about how or when it happened.
I wonder if
Yennefer ever finds out about the magical seduction.

It's interesting how Geralt is calm and stoic most of the time, yet Yennefer provokes something in him (good and bad)...And the "Dear Friend" letter was pretty funny.

As I think - she knows everything about that. Triss is quite young and Yen can read in mind .. easy counting :)
Maybe even in Geralt's memories, she could find, what was she using. But magic is not the most important in this thing - it was mentioned like "she doesn't have to use it much".

Indeed.

To say the truth - I dislike so much his neutral opinion and trying to pretend he has no emotions. What mainly Triss (but also others) said was right. That neutrality of some witchers was something like fanatism. No rational thinking, but just some code, which they follow. I know "neutral fanatics" sounds like oxymoron, but they couldn't make good reply on that objections, which were told to them - fighting with one beast, who kills few people in a year, but let people dying in thousands. This made their goal ridicolous and useless. Coen was great ;) ..

Hmm, can any sorcerer read minds or is it something special or a "you have to be that old to do that"-thing?

@ sfinxCZ I actually like the way he is. But I can see how it would be frustrating for her since she is emotional, and open with her feelings.

Dragon'sDream mentioned this in a thread with a CDPR interview recently - as they (sorry, I can't keep track of everyone's gender on these forums!) said, pretty relevant to this discussion.

Quotes from the interview:
We make them the same as they are in the books, but give them new experiences at the same time. A traumatic experience can change character's nature for example, and that's a literary device we sometimes use.

On our forums there's a group of players, who point out any inconsistencies with the books. Those guys are usually insufferable

EDIT: I seem to have stated my own opinion often enough in this thread, needless clutter to do it again.

That’s a good question. But if I remember correctly, Fringilla Vigo was also able to read minds, and it was mentioned that she was a quite young sorceress. So I guess (but I could be wrong) It’s not a “you have to be that old to do that-thing”, rather a [special] ability which can be learned and/or improved through practice. Though, I assume they also need talent to learn it...
Speaking of young sorceresses: it was never mentioned if Triss could read minds, but I guess she couldn’t, at least she never tried to read Geralt’s mind in Blood of Elves, however she had plenty of opportunities. (Or maybe she just didn't want to do that...)

Maybe it's "you have to wear special jewerly to do that"-thing :D

But I was also wondering, how often is this between mages. It's strange and it could be partly congential, because not only mages can do that ;) or even put own minds into head of another person.

True. But he is just pretending, he has no emotions. Just like in that case with Essi, when others (Yennefer, Marigold and Triss included) said him the truth about this.

It was also hinted that he regreted, how he just walked on the North, when others were dying during first war.

I see what you mean. I can't really picture Geralt choosing Triss over Yennefer either. But since there are a number of people who want this, it seems they want to give players the choice. I read an article on oxm.com that mentions the state of their, Triss and Geralt's, relationship at the beginning of the third game (although I guess this is just speculation). But I wonder how the developers will implement that choice.

I am curious.

I haven't read the books so can anyone give me a brief description of her character?

Who is she most like from what we've seen The Witcher games?

Yennefer?

Well, she's a sorceress. Sorceresses are generally headstrong "high maintenance" women, and she's no exception. She's not deviously amoral the way Philippa and Sheala are, and she's fiercely devoted to Geralt and Ciri. She fought together with Triss at Sodden Hill (where both were thought to have died), and how long they will remain good friends when Yennefer finds out that Triss has been shacking up with Geralt is open to speculation.

She's one-quarter elf, a few years short of 100, which is not old for a sorceress. She has raven hair, violet eyes, and a hunchback that she can't disguise entirely. She characteristically wears black, and her scent of lilac and gooseberries is unique and instantly recognizable.

There has not been anyone quite like her in the first two games. Think Rachel Weisz as Evanora in Oz the Great and Powerful. Now imagine living with her and trying to bring up a severely gifted stepdaughter.

She fought with her and was blinded, but she wasn't believed to be dead. Geralt only feared she was one of the fourteen from that list on the obelisk, but she wasn't.

There is already a thread about the "perfect" Yennefer, a few pictures and a short description of her.

Some say that Triss from Witcher 1 resembles her quite a lot, while Triss from Witcher 2 is the "real" Triss from the books.

I would say she has a hard shell, but a soft core. A little bit bossy, but also caring for those she holds dear, that would be Ciri and Geralt. I would also add Triss to that, but regarding some things in the books and now in the games, i don't really know if she would still count her in.
She also doesn't want to show any weakness. Appearing strong (to be respected and taken seriously) and looking appropriate (not sexy, just good looking) is important for her.

It's also interesting that she is probably one of the most powerful sorceresses now, comparable to Philippa. So you shouldn't make fun of her :p

And Yen always placed her family first, while all these "sorceresses without borders" aka the Lodge could go screw themselves.

Great description

_____________________

I just add something to Guy's post - I don't think she has still hunchback, just covered with illusion - this could be also opened for discussion. Geralt saw that just in her eyes, so he probably didn't even see her back in that moment and there is mentioned, she was like that until she became a sorceress, she has to live with those memories.
Also in Lady of the Lake Tissaia said, she will straighten her spine and scapula, nothing about covering with magic illusions.

And I would add, she is jealous. She never forget Triss (and Geralt) her love affair with him (her).

She can also read in mind. She is really powerfull. I think there weren't mentioned her colors - black and white, you will not see her wearing different colors.
She had bad childhood and she also had tough school years.
