Trouble finding a certain npc in the swamp

Early on there was an npc who wanted me to escort him to a shrine in the swamp. I took the quest but delayed escorting him to the shrine. Now I cannot find him( I have spent considerable time looking for him). Should i drop the quest and hope he'll reappear or just push on looking everywhere to find him ?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think once you start it he moves along... and usually dies if you don't escort at least "reasonably well".

(If not you'll find him in the hut to the far west deep in the swamp).

I found him...talk to him repeatedly. He won't follow me.Just stands there. He will talk to me...just not follow.

I'd drop it. You need to escort him immediately.

Then I should be able to re- acquire the quest ?

I've no idea why he's still there. Normally, if you acquire the quest but then DON'T escort him, he dies.
