TW2 From GOG or Steam

I was considering whether or not I should get TW2 from GOG or Steam. Feel free to provide input. The way I see it:Steam pros:--Steam Cloud support. Sounds handy to say the least! I'm already imagining how nice it'd be to have all my saves loaded up automatically for me whenever I install it..--Convenience... lots of my other games are already on Steam, so it'd allow me to have them all in one spot...able to install any/all of them through the same program [which sounds like it'd be more convenient than needing to go to GOG every time I want to DL/install TW2, but then again I'm not entirely sure how GOG's download system works (input here from GOG users is welcome)].--Steam achievements? (I heard they will be there, but I don't see any indication of them on the pre-order page of the Steam store OR on thewitcher.com's list of perks if you buy the Steam edition of the digital premium edition.)--Most of my friends are on Steam...GOG Pros:--Supports the game developers a bit more .. and a bit more directly (and I'm happy to do this with CDProjekt's great stuff and great support for TW)!--Doesn't give more power to Steam... and I feel a bit annoyed by them ever since they refused to carry the PC edition of Manhunt 2 :( I know you get one or two free classic games with the GOG pre-order as opposed to Steam, but this isn't really an issue to me since most of these games' graphics are so outdated I don't really feel like playing them anyway (just being honest! Don't hate on me pls :). NWN Diamond would be nice to get on GOG, but not so interested in most of the others... and I guess Diamond isn't an option..If anyone wants to provide input and address some of these things, I'd welcome it... ty.

Steam will have Achievements. They often forget to mention that on a lot of their pre-release store listings.

Also, the GOG version includes the art book (normally available only in the Collector's Edition) in pdf; the Steam version doesn't.

It may not be a concern for TW2; CDPR gets a better percentage when you buy from GOG, but Steam may more convenient for you. I don't get much mileage out of Steam, so I'm ordering from GOG.It definitely matters when it comes to games where mods have hooks into the executable. Steam executables are modified to support Steam's security, so mods that hook the executable don't work. Bethesda games, for which modders have written huge libraries of script functions that aren't in the base games, are probably the best example. The Witcher has general-purpose scripting outside the executable, so it doesn't have that problem. For TW2's new engine, we'll have to wait and see.

Can't say I care for that but I do care for cloud saves. Nothing like reinstalling a steamworks title and having all of your saves in place. That along with other Steam features are while I'll be getting it on Steam.

GOG. The reasons?1) You'll support more of the developers.2) You'll get one additional game and if you're living in Europe, some bonus credit for other game purchases.3) No DRM at all. Install the game on how many of your computers you want, where you want and whenever you want - and play whenever you want.4) After the game is installed, you don't need to wait a shitty client downloading itsupdates, quitting and reopening etc. You can play as soon as the game is installed and not be chained by the limitations of another program. Especially if you don't tend to keep Steam-client open all the time.5) Achievements are one of the worst things ever to happen to gaming, making the gameplay artificial. It should always be up to a player to decide how you play your game. What's the point of killing thousands of monsters, visiting the highest location as possible etc. in RPG? You can do the same without achievements, but in the end, it's pointless and there's hardly ever reward for such. And in case someone didn't notice it, the latter two are rather subjective opinions. ;)

Copying the save folder and pasting it to a pendrive or a different hdd partition works in the same way and it's faster. All you have to do is copy/paste it back to it's proper location after you reinstall the game.Cloud saving is pretty much useless. I don't like handing over the control of my files to a 3rd party.I control my computerz !!!!!!!!! :D

With GOG you don't have to log in to Steam, so if your internet's out, or someone's bugging you on Steam you can still play it. Plus, with GOG you get more for your money: the artbook, 10 HD wallpapers, the soundtrack, and a free game. Plus it's DRM free, personally, I'd go with GOG.

Was never an issue fpr me. I like to add fan-made mods to my games whenever available - especially the Bethesda games. Therefore, I have a personal tendency to stay away from Steam - unless I take a fancy to a particular game that is only available on Steam and no where else.Be that as it may - I pre-ordered TW2 from GOG the moment I saw it was available for pre-order...now all I have to do is sit back and wait for the game's actual release before I can once again immerse myself into the Witcher's world.

Another reason to do with GoG is the just in case we face the wondeful censorship problems in NA/Aus... As naturally, seeing someone's head or limb explode is fine in America, but the moment Breasts or Ass are shown, "Get out those pitch forks!, OMG!!".. So, doing it from GoG will avoid those issues (If it happens), as the moderators already stated that would be the case.http://tw2.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=32004.0 (Look near the bottom for Moderator reply)While if you get it from steam, you'll most likely deal with a censored version if it does go that route.. Hopefully, that won't be the case like it was with Witcher 1, and naturally as other people have stated it supports the devs, since it's their parent company.

when i saw that pre-ordering from GOG will get CDProject more money i cancelled right away and will order from GoG.I think CDProject deserves every penny as one of the last RPG studios that put heart into their games and not like some others.. "cough - Dragon Age 2 - cough".

Personally I will wait and see if the Collectors edition from amazon is DRM free, and if not I will probably buy it from GoG aswell so I still can have all the physical content. The thing that suprise me most, is that if you look on almost all other games, the second one looks too similar, like they've changed nothing. The one saying that about TW 2 must be blind.

I feel you. But I went with gog.com. a few reasons. I am an artist and I LOVE looking at concept art, so the artbook was a big selling point with me. It may be digital, but I can't afford the collectors edition, so... more profits go to the developers since they are partner companies. and lastly, Midweek Madness/Weekend/holiday sales on Steam. I mean, I can always pick it up for 75% off on Steam come Christmas so i can play with achievements and Steam Cloud etc.. :pbtw. Steam Cloud probably wont save ALL your games. On like Portal and Half-Life 2 it saves your 5 most recent on the cloud. Still, it will allow you to play on multiple computers with no hassle, or uninstall and have your most recent saves waiting for you when you re-install.

As much as I like STEAM, it is better to buy TW2 from Good Old Games, and support CD Projekt.

I went with steam for convenience. 98% of my games are already on there (the rest on GOG), besides, I have the first witcher game on it, want to keep them together. I HOPE its uncensored, will be a bit P.O.'d if it is.
