News: This file has been updated to fully support The Witcher 2.0

There's a lot of talk about how the game starts out difficult, but becomes
too easy around chapter 2 and 3. Yes, there are mods out there that attempt
to solve this issue, but they change way too much about the game for my liking.

I think this issue can be solved with a minimalist approach, by simply lowering
values on each skill in the skill trees. This doesn't really weaken you too hard
at the beginning, and as you gain more and more nerfed skills you become much
weaker compared to a geralt using a non nerfed skill tree, thus balancing out
endgame to make it harder, or at the very least, not godmode.

This mod is designed to make the game more difficult as you progress.


Installation: Copy contained CookedPC folder into the game directory.

Uninstallation: Deleted the following files:

\CookedPC\abilities\geralt_skills.xml
\CookedPC\globals\abilities_tokens.csv


This is the first version, I'm sure there will be issues, this may make
some skills superior to others, may make the game too hard later on,
or may still have little effect on the difficulty. Please report any issues
to me and I'll personally see to fixing it.

If anyone wants to help me beta test and work out any bugs with this, I would really appreciate it, also feedback is needed, since this version is mod is new I'd like to know if people think it makes the game too hard later on, if it doesn't make it hard enough, if there are any overpowered skills or skilltrees, and so on and so fourth. I hope you enjoy the mod and everything works fine!

Note: Arena Leaderboards will be disabled with his mod

just installed this mod along with complete armor overhaul. they seem to play nicely with each other. ill let you know how it goes.

mod seems to be working great, with ceo makes for a very bice balence and game sems to be getting progressively harder. i wonder if you could make a version of your mod which makes parry like 75% damage reduction. (but all other change the same) i hardly ever parry anymore so might make things a bit more dynamic. i think 100% damage reduction with unlimited parrying might be a bit overpowered, but 25-50% just means you never parry

Good point, updated the file

Changelog:

v1.2 10-15-11: Changed Parrying 2 to reduce damage while blocking by 70% (up from 25%)
v1.2 10-15-11: Changed Guard to reduce vigor drained by blocking by 50%/100% (to encourage blocking instead of rolling)

cool thats good im at the bit where you play that guard in the mist and can only block and am finding it pretty tough with only 25% damage reduction lol, think thats 1 skill that doesnt need to be nerfed.

exactly, with rolling being so powerful and quen being so powerful, I don't see the reason blocking needs to be so weak. Also if you downloaded it already, download one more time, I just uploaded a minor fix, the description for Parrying 2 still said 25%, that has been fixed.

ok cool personally i dont think guard needs to be strengthened that much maybe just leave it at -25%/-50% vigor lost, because theres a thread on here with a moderator explaining that the less vigor you have the less damage you do with a sword, so if you constantly block and counter with no loss of vigor, might make it overpowered,

aye, I'll keep it separate from another mod I'm working on involving vigor and signs, but for now I'm going to test it out and see if it effects gameplay so it's overpowered
