TW2 Sneaking Sucks!

Why is it that that enemies do an instant 180 degree turns and spots you and then you aren't even given a chance to get away... it's an instant movie and then dead. I thought it was supposed to give you a choice on ways to do everything... but if you fail even SLIGHTYLY it's instant death. Hell, I can't even figure out how to make Geralt creep instead of walking through the damned camp standing upright.

There is a lot of this game I really like but some things are sooooooooooo badly done that you would think this was The Witcher Alpha 1. Sneaking and arm wrestling are just so bad they are beyond excruciating.

They're guards. They're supposed to be vigilant. You're this big dude with clanky swords, hair that practically glows in the moonlight, and a satchel full of smelly drowner brains, tromping around in army boots. I'm surprised they don't catch you more often than they do.

In every case where you may, or must, sneak to complete a mission, there is a way to do so successfully. The fact that you have not yet found that way is not a mark against the game.

Put your sword away to creep around if you keep it unsheathed Geralt walks upright. Also you can skip most of the sneaking segments through alternate routes, getting caught, or fighting the guard. They're pretty easy though just wait til the guard turns away from you and approach from behind (from the side they'll still see you).

As for arms wrestling that's ridiculously easy all the mini games are.

Rule of thumb: sneaking sucks in games where stealth isn't a main focus. Unfortunately, TW2 is no exception. Still better than, say, Fahrenheit though.

And I do love the sneaking musical theme a lot, it sounds like Metal Gear Solid gone neofolk :p

I thought the AI was pretty sharp for the most part. It's the controls and sneaking animations that could be better.

When sneaking through a camp it is advised to stay in the shadows and close to the tents as possible . The only place i can of where you are is Henselt`s camp and yes you need to be extremely careful but is very possible to do it . A tip would be to save often in this area that way if you get caught just reload the last save and don`t do what you did to get caught . As others have mentioned sheathing your weapon will put you automatically back in sneak mode .

That's about the long and short of it. Plus, if we're honest, even a lot of pure stealth games don't do it particularly well because it's just something that's incredibly difficult to get right.

As someone who's played endless hours of MGS and Splinter Cell, when I got tossed into Henselt's camp on Iorveth's path, honestly, I just felt lost. You're in a stealth segment, and you have no idea how anything works. How far can the guards see? How quickly do they hear you? If they hear you, do they start looking or do they just sound the alarm? Are you caught immediately if you step into a brightly lit area? You basically have no idea, and by the time you've watched the cutscene of Geralt getting arrowed to death for the 10th time, you've just sort of half figured it out and pull through.

(Spoiler here)

Or actually, I needed a Youtube video to tell me that there would be an Axii prompt for the guy who's cooking. I'm sorry, but the absolute last thing I'll do in a stealth section is walk straight up to someone who isn't going to see me. I got killed trying to somehow sneak past this guy or kill him before he called for help so many times, eventually I just gave up.

So... yeah. Not the best part of the game.

protip: for henselts camp, take the route through the whores tents that goes through the caves. you practically bypass almost all of the sneaking involved in that part.

This. You will save yourself much headache. I don't really mind dying though, as long as I am not on one of my insane runs.

the trick is to look for the paths they dont patrol...

and get them from behind, whenever possible.

i didnt pay the whoremonger the orens, and it pays off with a trophy once you pull it off. its really not that hard once you know where to go.

Well the most annoying thing about this section is that the game is buggy to hell. The cook was facing away from me and then shouted SPY IN THE CAMP, I get arrowed and then the cook continues to shout SPY IN THE CAMP forever while there is a black screen meaning I have to keep reloading the game.

Seriously, the sneaking is really, REALLY putting me off recommending this game to ANYONE. Skyrim might be simpler but at least you can freakin sneak right.

Hell, the one time I was TOTALLY out of sight between two tents and then the cook AGAIN shouts out SPY IN THE FRICKIN CAMP! Seriously, if you are going to sneak into a a camp at LEAST nick a uniform and try to blend in. Geralt must be a moron.

This is on the 360 btw... ON EASY! (yeah right!)

I didn't want to do this the first time since I was strapped for cash, but you better believe that's my solution for this problem in the next one...
