TW2 V2.0 asks for disk at startup

Just as the topic says, I'm being prompted for a disk when starting the game since installing the new 2.0 patch. If I elect to continue or cancel at the disk prompt, the game starts up normally, so this is hardly game breaking, but it is annoying.

FWIW, I'm running the U.S. retail collectors edition that had been previously incrementally patched {e.g. first 1.1 then 1.2, etc., up to 1.35 before applying the 2.0 patch. I used the manual patches because I've had too many issues with the automatic patching not working properly} and no mods. Prior to patch 2.0, I was not prompted for a disk.

Anyone else having this problem?

I am also having this problem with the GOG version of the game. I never had this problem before and it doesn't stop me from playing, but it is very annoying to have to go through it.

Good to know it isn't just me. I tried reinstalling the game, this time letting the autopatcher do the updating which worked fine for once, so kudos to CDPR for getting that working, but the game is still looking for a disk at start up.

I was looking around the GOG forums and saw several others having the same issue, so I guess we will have to wait for a work around or a hotfix from CDPR.

OK I have been playing TW2 for a while now, with little to no problems apart from the occasional crash to launcher.
Now after I have installed V2.0 this is the only thing TW2 Will display when I press launch game.

I fact I don't even have a working Disk drive on my computer and that I installed this game via steam has left me confused and slightly pissed off.

If there is a solution to this I will be very grateful.

I am also having this problem with my UK Retail version.
Posted this issue yesterday but my post has mysteriously disappeared...(and it seems the search function on these forums is broken)
Would love to get this resolved as it is annoying as hell!
One day CDPR is going to rlease a patch that does not introduce new bugs, I know it!

I'm also having this problem, though only since I reinstalled the game hoping that it will fix the connection error in Arena mode.

If you have W7 try launch the game as an administrator.

Didn't work for me, but thanks for the suggestion. : ) What I noticed is that if I click on cancel several times, the annoying window goes away and the game starts without the disk.

Running as administrator (Windows 7 64-bit) seems to have solved the problem for me.

Thanks Majo for the suggestion.

I'm running Win 7 64 bit and I just tried running as administrator, but it did not solve the problem.

One interesting thing did happen, though: I got a prompt to give the game firewall access. Since the game downloaded the patches without a problem, I'm guessing the new access request was related to uploading arena scores.

Anyway, even with the new firewall exception, and running as an administrator, I'm still getting the disk prompt. After cancelling the disk prompt twice, the game starts normally.

We appreciate you looking into the problem, Majo_RED. Let me know if I can provide any further information to help solve this bug.

Is it only happening on Windows 7?

At least one person on the GOG forums is reporting the problem with XP Pro:

Well, I have Win7 64 bit but guess what? Today I didn't have this problem at all, seems to be completely gone after I clicked cancel a few times yesterday. :)

hello, I am the one reporting it at GOG forum, using WinXP Pro 32 bits.

My error message is a little different (see pic), but I never had this before patch 2.0 (I try a reinstall, and 1.01g does not give this error message)

And before you ask, of course I have admin privileges, and no, I do not have any media in my DVD drive

Regards

(PS: could this be related to the fact that I do not install GOG games to C:\, but to another hard-drive ? I do this for all my games, including TW2 prior to patch 2.0 - C:\ is mainly for Windows - and I never had this problem before )

I have this problem as well. Bought the steam version yesterday. Installed, and then let it patch itself to 2.0, game starts fine if I click Continue twice, but it's not a great first impression.

I had the problem just after I installed the game and it had pathed itself to 2.0.
I'm using WIndows Vista 64-bit version and I was running the game as an admin.
The problem disappeared after a while, I think it was gone the next day I played it.
Could have been solved because I restarted my computer or perhaps because I tried play the game offline (had to restart my computer for it to work offline, else the launcher menu wouldn't work in offline mode).

I was able to launch the Witcher 2 game with 2.0 installed without the No Disk in Drive Popup for a week or so. Now it asks for a disk. Pressing continue loads the game. I am also having the same problem now with The Witcher with 1.5 installed. Don't have a clue why the games are asking for a disk all of a sudden.
