Never give up hoping until someone in the know says "No".

And even then, always leave a candle burning, just in case.

Hope Still Lives!!!

We're always happy if modders add some good to the game. Sadly, we're still usual company with limited resources. And we need to focus on new games ;)
It's great to see guys like you asking for toolset. Especially that game was released 13 months ago! We notice this :)

I suspected that this was the case, but it's nice to know the official story. I still hope there will be something, but otherwise I would like to see these things in future games. I would love to work in the RED Engine!

MadBonsai used to be a modder, before he was hired by CDPR. So we know that MadBonsai is pro-modding; what isn't clear is how pervasive that attitude is at CDPR. Let's hope he converts them all. ;)

Sigh.... I remember waiting for TW2 before I started modding & doing adventures, as I didnt find out about The Witcher till late on.

But I remember waiting with excitement for release I watched all the promo vids and news bits I could about the new red engine / TW2 and that it being hyped that a toolset was going to be released.

Anyway pre-oredered for release, the game itself was very short think less than 20 hours to complete and after a week I think had played through 3 times was a bit bored of it.

So kept watching the forums for about 3 months still no news on the modding set.

Then started to come backto forums every couple of months waiting for a bit of news on the toolset and now we have it is highly unlikely we are gonna get a toolset for this game.

I was really a huge fan of The Witcher and when I found the forums and the adventures / mods I thought CD Project was different and fresh but they are not.

At least you know your gonna be let down By Bethesda, EA, Bioware, Cash-tivision...

So I will go back to Skyrim and keep building my own stuff there.

I now doubt I will be buying TW3 now as TW2 had very little replay value and as far as im concered an rpg that takes less than a day to complete is a waste of money imho.

Corylea I said it once and I'll say it agaim MP1 was amazing and was very much wanting to do an adventure in TW2 because of how good your adventure was!!!

I'm not sure those two sentences are compatible

What that the game is incredibly short or the replay value?

Any rpg that I complete on the day of release I feel is short...

Playing 3 times isnt giving replay value I only replayed 3 times to really give it the best chance possible of meeting my expectations as I felt I must of missed something I didnt.

Dont get me wrong I loved the amazing graphics and the new engine and the story line was good just needed alot more content, and the last act my god how quick did that end...

Also so far on steam I have played TW1 for 214 hours have about 6 saves main game and have played alot of the modders adventures.

Skyrim I have played for 252 hours so far have about 20 or so saves. I wish the skyrim creation kit added your time as well as thats probably more than 100-150hrs as well

TW2 I have played for 79 hours.

So yes for replay value it does not live up to the first game or other rpgs that I play.

But the game imo needed the toolset to give it longevity as the game doesn't have any longevity (IMO) also like I said when I first found TW1 I was looking forward to making adventures in TW2, for me the developer / Studio should have said either yes or no before the games instead of waiting for 13 months...

20 hours is pretty average I think for a modern rpg. It's difficult to compare with something like Skyrim because it' open world and filled with a lot more random quests. TW2 is more focussed on a handful of different areas, meaning there is less "world" to explore.

Generally if you play a game 3 times I would say there was some replay value. You certainly miss something on one play through because there's a whole other part of the game you'd never see unless you play it twice and even then you have all the major decisions on each branch to consider.

I fully agree that a toolset would have been great though :)

Actually, regardless of which path you choose, I don't see how you can complete it in 20 hours if you do all the sidequests. Unless you play on easy, maybe. Or skip through the dialogue. Try it in Dark mode.

TW1 was more open world than TW2 and that's what I liked so much more over TW2. If there is going to be a TW3 I hope it has more elements of TW1 like multiple large lands to explore and many sub plots to the storyline. Even though TW2 is still a non linear story it's not nearly as complex as TW1 IMO. Also, there were a lot more characters to interact with, which I realy miss in this one.

I'm sorry to say it, but without a toolset TW2 is and will always be inferior to TW1. The majority of fanmade adventures may not have been as good as the original campaign of TW1, but some of them were still pretty damn good and they added a big reason for me to keep the game installed even after i had finished it several times. So, even though i am not a modder myself i still ask, please CD Projekt, consider releasing an adventure editor or some kind of toolset for this game. While "the suits" may have a hard time understanding the need for such an addition to the game, please take one look at all the games that have had an editor released for them in the past. Impressive mods are still created for games like Fallout 2, Thief 2, Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights for example and the community who makes these mods also keeps these games alive more than 10 years after they were released.

Here's to an SDK! Even if it's 2 years after the game has been released I wouldn't mind! :)

Or at least a way to edit/mod .w2ent files!

I can only agree, mods and adventures add length to a game.

It's not any official story. I just described my approach ;)
If you don't see it in press release - nothing it's official.

And it's awesome too play crazy things (gameplay ideas, short quests) - which are often well done and interesting to play, but not fitting to general game design. So you can do what designers can't. It always great thing for player to play some weird, unusual mod if he already spend tens of hours in given world :)

That's not fair, spreading hope of a future toolset like that! :)

You shall treat me as regular user, not developer ;) Important facts are never spread by guys on forum. Only official press release or conference is source of news ;)

CDPR has just announced that they'll be releasing modding tools for TW2, to be called the REDkit.

Finally!

It does have a thread of its own, but it's titled " NEWS: CD Projekt RED at Gamescom." Presumably, they'll make a news thread with a more informative title when the REDkit is ready for release.

So, now that REDkit is on its way, are there any enterprising folks who want to recreate The Witcher using TW2's engine & general all-round prettiness?

Like the Black Mesa project, only for an even better game
