[TW2EE] Steam version stuck on loader (FAQ doesn't help)

Got the Steam version of TW2EE installed yesterday and it does not load past the loader.
The loader does not CTD with error code of any kind. Just shows the splash (Wolf head) and does nothing more.
I've done everything that was advised in the FAQ section, but nothing helped.

Installed .NET 4 + all the updates from Windows Updates.
Installed latest version of DirectX 9c.
The game was installed with administrator rights, but just in case I've used the registry check tool from the FAQ.
The game was on lowest detail.

What else can I do to get the game started?

PC spec:
Windows XP professional (SP3)
AMD Athlon 62 X2 (Dual Core 6000+)
4GB RAM
Sapphire Radeon HD 6870

Yes, I have checked the Steam forums and tried everything mentioned there.
Still have the problem and the game is not loading.

Same issue here either with Steam version or GOG free backup one. No error message, launcher.exe just freezes (see http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/29220-cant-launch-ee-version-either-steam-or-gog-one/)

A WinXP issue maybe?
Everyone here using WinXP?

edit: nevermind. There is a thread at Steam and one guy says he's on Win7 having the same issue:

Seems to be a few things to try, there.

I'd try the validation of the game's cache' first, though.

Already tried to to validate the cache. I have even performed a complete reinstall of the game. Same issue.

Been there, done that, still have the problem.
Validating the game files just cause another issue (the "Firsth time setup" problem), which can be solved by renaming or moving the files from "redist" folder, but doesn't help with the freeze of loader.exe .

Verifying cache won't help and neither will uninstalling and reinstalling .NET.

The install files for the Steam version of the game are messed up. If you open 20920_install.vdf in a text editor it refers to a registry directory that doesn't exist.

Also the installer is SUPPOSED to enter in DWORD values of 1 to signify installed for Visual C++ and .NET after the first time they get installed but they aren't getting entered into the registry so every you start the game and it's not seeing notice that they are installed and tried to reinstall them.

You can manually enter the values in the registry yourself though and it does solve it.

So, is there going to be a patch for this problem or something? I'm not used to buy games that are called Enhanced Edition that are not even loading at all. Should I wait for a patch, or should I look for a refund?
