TW3 graphics on different platforms

Hello Everybody,

I would like to ask you guys, that what do you think about the graphics of the Witcher 3. Will it have better graphics on pc, or it's going to be quite similar to the other platforms. I know that it is quite an old thing, but comparing the xbox360 with the pc version of the Witcher 2, i think on pc it was better. In my opinion the light effects are much more nice.
Actually i am a pc gamer, but maintaining the pc in every year, it is quite disturbing and expensive. And therefore i was thinking about to get a ps4.

CDPR claimed it will have same graphics but i personally doubt that.

There will be no big differences between platforms . Ony FPS may be limited to 30 frames on consoles .

I would think with the same graphical settings (default of consoles, changeable at will on PC), there will be no difference. But obviously slower and less powerful PCs, setting on low, will have worse graphics than consoles, and high-end more powerful PCs, set on higher resolution, and on High or Ultra - better graphics.

CDPR did not publish any technical information about what they are doing with the graphics, so this question is premature.

You don't need to upgrade PC hardware every year, it's a clear overkill. I'd advise you against buying any consoles if you are a PC gamer. High end based PC assembled for gaming can last for 4-5 years without need to upgrade.

The next gen consoles specs are similar to current mid range pcs. If they look same at high across all platforms, I will have a big issue with that.

Pc version will have mod support so by default it will make final tw3 pc graphics better.

Edit - I jumped the gun with that post, I agree with you.

CDPR stated somewhere that all platforms will have the best graphical quality, but I strongly believe that this was just marketing talk, for the console people to not feel left out. The new-gen console hardware is already comparable to the mid/low gaming PC hardware, and in 2014 the comparison will go even worse for consoles. Since CDPR were clearly a PC-first company for all their history, I belive that they will want to utilize the PC hardware capabilities to its fullest. This was confirmed by a represantative of CDPR on Twitter, where he said that you'll get the best experience on the PC (I can't provide the link now, but I clearly rememeber seeing this).

So, most probably, the highest quality settings on the PCs will provide considerably better graphics than what you'll be able to see on consoles, judging also from this (an Nvidia presentation, so clearly PC-related):

But you'll need a rather powerful rig for all of that, preferably with an Nvidia card to have the awesome PhysX fur:

Those who keep equating next-gen console hardware to mid and now, apparently, low gaming PC hardware as though it would lead up to the self-evident truth graphics will look subpar seem to have missed statements from those in the know stating otherwise.

They might be in for a surprise.

"Next gen" consoles will fall behind PC hardware in less than a year since their release, simply because their release cycle is much slower than releases of new PC hardware. Whether it will make a difference for some games or not - will depend on the game.

Sure.

The point, though, is will TW3 look that much worse on consoles at launch?
CDProjekt's current answer: No, it will not.

I very much doubt the next gen consoles will be able to handle things like TXAA, Tesselation, the Hair and Fur Tech as well as PhysX in general as a PC can.

That said I do expect texture quality to be the same on all platforms.

You can't argue that by pure performance the console hardware is comparable to the mid PC hardware, even to the relatively lower part of the mid segment (yes, enough details about console hardware were confirmed, for people to be able to make such statements). Of course, the devs will be able to optimize their games for the console hardware considerably better than for PC hardware, due to having a fixed target, which gives a considerable boost to console graphics.
But e.g. GTX 780 is already faster than console graphics more than by order of magnitude, this won't be mitigated by difference in optimizations (if the devs don't suck truly badly at PC optimizations).
So yes, it's quite clear that mid-high- and high-end gaming PCs will have a very noticeable edge on consoles.

We'll see. I bet that on a PhysX-enabled mid-high- or high-end PC machine TW3 _will_ look considerably better than on PS4 and Xbone. And CDPR didn't give any definite answer on this, except for rather vague marketing talk.

You seem to be forgetting specific hardware optimization. More importantly, you seem to be forgetting rather clear statements from people who actually got to work with the specs and said otherwise. I can't be bothered to quote them, you can either take my word for it or not.

But even that is not the bottom line.

Say next-gen Console hardware indeed ends being a kettle when compared to PC hardware. CDProjekt says TW3 will look identical across all platforms - a goal which makes perfect sense business wise. Apart from mods unavailable at launch, what's the use of all that alleged extra computing power?

And just to be clear, I'll be playing TW3 on a high end PC.

It's had for me to understand why you'd be willing to cherry pick and dismiss certain statements as PR talk and not have the very same stance regarding this statement.

Business wise, it does not make much sense to have a significant gap between platforms. It just doesn't.
Do you agree?

I didn't forget the optimization, I mentioned it.

I strongly believe that their statement about "TW3 looking identical across all platforms" is pure marketing talk. In other places they clearly stated that PC version will be better, see my post above.

Also, do you really think that, e.g., the PhysX fur demonstrated in the video I linked above will be available on consoles? Almost certainly not.

That's not an official CDPR account.
