To my mind, Geralt and Zoltan or Geralt and Dandelion would be kinda cute. Why not?
I came to this thread to look at ideas of other characters being able to be romanceable like maybe hanako or anyone else?
But it looks different, and dude how Geralt with any guy is cute.. dont ruin Geralt for me

Can someone please reprogram that cute girl at the end of my street. I want her to like me.
Why? Because videogame ... Oh ... Oohw...

No, keep relation preferences as they are
Lemme know when this advance technology is available in real life.

what about role playing game suggests the other characters should alter themselves based on the player? Your whole premise essentially boils down to the purpose of the entire game world is to give the player what the player desires. But thats not the purpose of an rpg, the player assumes a role within the framework of the game. Not the game trying to create a world to match the player.

its a fundamentally different design concept. RPG maker is what you would be trying to build.

I disagree many an RPG involve the player fundamentally changing the world and the characters around them. There are characters whose personalities and lives (or lack thereof) can be dramatically altered based on their interactions with the player. RPGs where the entire world is changed and can differ vastly between different people's playthroughs.

To say the only thing that matters in an RPG is your character but to then give that character no ability to make an impact just makes having that character altogether utterly pointless. If you are not changing the world you may as well be an NPC. The point of an RPG IS to give the player what they desire. Otherwise just have a set character with a set on rails story with no element of choice of customisation.

Historical trivia note: A similar suggestion indeed was made, once, shortly after release. However, at the time, an overwhelming majority of users disliked the idea, since it conflicted with Geralt's established character.

Witcher note ends. Now, back to Cyberpunk.

Actually, just for the fun of it, I asked again. Maybe people are more open-minded today.

But it looks different, and dude how Geralt with any guy is cute.. dont ruin Geralt for me

Why ruined? Geralt is 120 in W3. Why shouldn't he have the right to experience something new. It woul make him a more self-confident character.

if the player interacts with characters within the framework of the game world thats fine. Persuading, or helping them. However, the player should not be able to alter the basic natures of characters, or the world through the mere fact they are player characters.

The point of an rpg is not to give the player what they desire. The player gets to make and control their own character, the world is supposed to interact and change consistently within its own ruleset. If Judy is written as a gay character, you should have similar chance you'd have irl of having a straight romance with her.

Judy was. I've never once mentioned Judy. Judy and Kerry have justification for their proclivities. It's River and Panam who are already bi but have weird access restrictions.

I fear we are going to go around in circles, perhaps we should just concede that we're not going to see each other's point of view and call detente so we don't end up repeating ourselves and annoy anyone viewing this topic.

I find that rather a nonsense rationale. Trying to compare to real world where there's more than a single boy/girl ever going to be interested. I can certainly understand the desire for unlocking given the paltry state of the romantic options (even if i think it's unlikely to happen & even if it happened it wouldn't solve the awful way the romances are handled outside of being a nomad)
You can have that opinion. But it does not make it not true to an extend. For instance: why should Panam be accessible for female V's? or why should Judy be accessible to male V's? because its just a videogame and you want it that way?
Equally nonsense rationale.
"Trying to compare to real world where there's more than a single boy/girl ever going to be interested." <-- Could also easily be solved by adding in more character as romancible. so also an argument easily debunked.

Except Panam will already romance a V with a female voice and a vagina. At that point how much difference does a torso make? The interaction already exists, the only thing that changes is letting people see their preferred V in the mirror while they do. It adds to player satisfaction, changes nothing about Panam or the story or even requires new dialogue recording. But the restriction on Panam and River removes player enjoyment. For them two I see no drawbacks, only benefits.

Right. So enable gender changing of V whenever you want. Done. You get your romance of choice. But you cater to the romance's requirement. You want to screw Judy. Fork over those eddies to Vik.

While I think the ability to customise gender throughout the game would be very fitting in the world, I'm not talking about the romance options that have a set orientation like Judy. None of my points have anything to do with Judy. I don't like Judy.

I will admit that the descriptions given are vague at best: "Requirement: Male V with male bodytype". It isn't specific enough if you take into account some character elements.
In the end however, it still mentions V must be male. So even if a hybrid (for lack of better word) would still be an option:100% females arent, and I see no reason to include every single possible character variant for the sole purpose to include.
nothing more to say about that.

I just don't get the decision making involved in how they've arbitrarily gated River and Panam. Either lift the restriction and make them bi or remove the freedom to romance them with either voice and make them straight. Commit. It's the compromise that isn't satisfying. If they removed access to the River romance for a V with a male voice. I would be disappointed but move on because the character was straight and I don't believe in altering a set sexuality. But when you have 99% bisexual love interests with a weird restriction on them like this...it's just a tease for what could be if it weren't for the odd decisions they made. Especially since you date River, the hook was baited but then nothing.

That's like saying you don't get nature when it decided to gate certain people behind certain sexual preferences. Even people who are bi IRL may not be equally drawn to both genders. A person can be bi and still prefer a gay or straight relationship. I don't see what's so hard to understand about that.

My preference for romances to be open is of course an opinion. That game romances bare no correlation to real life in availability nor preferences is a fact.
Adding additional romances is certainly one alternative to provide choice. i don't necessarily have a problem with it other than if it causes a reduction in terms of content available for individual romances.

Except this isn't about real life, it's about a game mechanic. I understand in the real world some people are more flexible than others when it comes to their orientations and for some people genitalia may not matter but they still gravitate towards a certain model for lack of a better term.

In real life one is not restricted to only being able to flirt with four people. And you'd think (or at least hope) that someone wouldn't go out to dinner with you and take you to their favourite secluded spot and share intimate secrets about themselves and then friend zone for reasons that don't include your genitals.

Now that person would be a dick. So either it's a flawed romance system (purely as a game mechanic) or River has is a massive dick. That's my running theory now.

How about this: they made Judy and Kerry gay, and made Panam and River straight. But then they also decided to go with "oh, how about some variety between male/female bodytype and a different voice"? Then they realized that players who go for this wouldn't have a single LI in the game, so they changed River and Panam's preferences (just so that these new options affect something somewhere in the game). Why not Judy and Kerry -- no idea :D

Some extra trivia: watched a trans gamer talk about this whole bodytype/voice thing, and they found V's pronouns being linked to the voice absolutely ridiculous, like why can't it be a separate selection with a couple extra voicelines recorded. Then someone mentioned that this might have been due to budget limitations: doing this in Slavic languages that distinguish between male/female verb forms would have been twice as much work (+ bigger audio files).

You know I never really thought about how gendered languages might impact things. It's easy to forget that that's a rule in a lot of languages. I don't have a brain for languages, I get tongue tied in English enough times. Also I said the word languages too much and now it doesn't look like a real word.

I think part of what frustrates me is River is sooo close to being an m/m romance barring the torso restriction and it's rare that we get a character like River as a love interest. Even rarer that we get that quality of love scene. We're lucky if we get shirtless kissing before the fade to black when other romances get much more (granted f/f is often stuck with awkward model swaps that raise anatomical questions). My frustration is aimed at the unfortunate combination of circumstances here. Not at the game and certainly not at any player who would disagree with lifting the restriction.

The pushback of some people against this is both ridiculous and pathetic. This is a fantasy, a game, where people go to escape harsh reality. But you want to take some people's fun away at the altar of what exactly? The virtue of fictional characters? This might just be the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

So yes, absolutely all romances should be free for all. And don't come with the nonsense that A is hetero and B is not. It's a fantasy world with fantasy characters. Just as you can change V's gender between playthroughs the orientation of every romancable character should be changed similarly to match your V.

There is enough rejection in the real world, we should not be forced to experience it in a fantasy world as well. It made me feel horrible when my V was rejected by Panam on my very first game.

By the way, speaking about the scenes, I found it really awkward that the pre-romance conversation scenes are the same for male/female V. Especially awkward with River and Kerry.

That spot River chooses is so 100% right into your face romantic that if he takes you there and then backs up, it just feels funny. Playing with a female V, the moment I saw the tower I was like "OK, got it" (his sis didn't even have to spoil anything). Same with Kerry -- if he took you to the balcony to have a drink, OK, but all this standing so close to one another, just the two of you, and Kerry's so vulnerable -- *sigh*.

I completely don't mind having the option "kiss" pop up for V to be rejected, but the super-romantic setting is sending a wrong message imo :)

No, it's not stupid. They were aiming to create fiction, not just a game. And for whatever players want, mods and imagination exist.

If you look at the seedy Steam community page, you'll understand why they keep beating the drum for a straight Judy. They even managed to make Panam lighter skinned in the community page perv community post where both her and Judy are undressing. To make her a less black and more ideal white boy's exotic pin-up girl.

It's basically a porn simulator for college boys in their 20-30's.

I'm glad the game is not advertised through Steam, because what they allow on the community pages is ridiculous.
