Why

Ok so my biggest idea for a dream RPG from CDPR is that should not be set in the future :pride: Joking aside, my first thought about the Cyberpunk when i first heard about it a while ago was, why? I mean CDPR has been working on a medieval setting for a while now. And i think they ve just gotten it down recently to be honest. No one can say the first Witcher game had the depth of the Wild Hunt as far as a medieval setting goes. Understandably too, its a complex thing. You need the right soundtrack, the right voice acting, a good amount of knowledge and research. It is a lot of work. To be honest they have just recently got it down good. For probably the first time in gaming history we have this good a medieval setting. And now they have decided to shift it towards a futuristic setting. Which has been done many times. Decently so in Mass Effect series. I think the gaming world needs specialists in certain settings. And CDPR could be one in a medieval-like fantasy setting. Why did they decide to leave it to rest when tehy just got it right ? I will never know. Like the oldtimers say; if it aint broken, dont fix it.

Well, my thought on why they switched is that A) The Witcher is finished and B) they wanted a change of pace.

Also, Cyberpunk is done much less than other settings in video games. The only remotely cyberpunk AAA series at present is Deus Ex, which is more cyber than punk. Meanwhile, fantasy settings are all over, and mostly identical (why do they never leave Europe? I want my fantasy Aztecs and Maori!)

Also I'm fairly sure the developers said that they were fans of the genre and the Cyberpunk 2020 pnp game.
When Mike first went to visit CDPR in Poland he was rather surprised when the folks there mentioned aspects of Cyberpunk he'd forgotten about during the meeting.

For my part I see that as a good thing for their development of CP2077.

I would asume that it will not be turnbased. I could be wrong of course, and if I was I would actually be happy about that... but so far it has always been classified as a "Action role-playing video game", and to me that does not speak "turnbased" at all.

But as Suhiira said, they have not actually said anything about what the game will be... so it's still up in the air.

I still have my fingers crossed that the hinted "tactical mode" might have something resembling a turnbased scenario, or that the core design allows for something of the sort through certain sorts features (what ever those might be). But It almost certainly won't be turnbased by default (they've already mentioned that shooting will be based on the players skill - with possible accuracy afflictions through skills - and that dicerolls are super boring... ). Unless of course they've changed their minds since those statements.

That part, while hardly unexpected, annoys me greatly, it is suppose to be a role-play game not and FPS.

So regardless of skills or stats my characters will all suck at combat because I the player suck at FPS ...

Know the feeling. I don't "suck" at FPS's, but I'm just not interested in that kind of gameplay.

Gotta hope they get a bit more creative with combat mechanics than what that old interview made it sound like.

Not a clue at this point. But unless it falls flat on it's face I'd expect at least two games simply because once all the work for the first is done making a second is far easier, thus more profitable.
I prefer one game honestly. You don't want another FFXIII situation. Sure, it worked with the Witcher series, but is there enough lore of the Cyberpunk universe itself to spin off sequels? I want this game to be glorious and fun with infinite replay value.

The Waiting is soooo not fun. Dammit I need to hook up with Meat Wagon Inc. so I can be a door gunner on the "Retrieval and Triage Vehicle". 'Meat Wagon Incorporated; We Pick you up, after your flatlined!'

Because they are the REDs? Crazy, insane and wonderful! If someone would have told me (in the time where we hadn't seen BAW yet) that there is going to be
talking horses
in the Witcher series, I would have laughed myself to death. But what do you know, they just did it and it worked perfectly.

I know what you mean. I don't like futuristic stuff at all. Not in the movies, not in the books, not in the games. And still I find myself reading this forum. REDs mastered medieval style, yes. I think we can all agree to that. Medieval stuff has also been done numerous times before in different games. Why wouldn't they succeed this time? If someone can master futuristic stuff too, I trust that the REDs are more than capable of doing so.

I'm more than interested to see what this game is going to be. If it would be made in any other studio, I wouldn't touch it. This time though, I definitely want to play it. REDs have made only excellent games so far. They can surprise me positively again ;)

(No pressure guys!)

And thanks for this awesome starter thread, @Sardukhar :)

Agree what @Sunsibar said. CDPR is not Ubisoft, that made Assasins Creed 1+2 and saw that people love it and it sells well. Why not to make 20 AC games then? -.- CDPR thinks different, a few employees already said why they move on to CP2077:

1.) It would get boring to make another medieval game, again. It may be a great game, but not as good as TW3, since this game had so many great Side quests and stories! Their storywriters need a break from that setting.
2.) They love the Cyberpunk 2020 setting and have the full rights on CP2077, which means FREEDOM for their brains :)

It's crazy though that people here ask alerady, if CP will be a Trillogy. I don't think they think "like that" in CDPR. They will show us gameplay for the first time, finish the game and then decide if there is sense to make a second/third game...

I'd like them to plan a little more than that, just to make sure that, if it does turn into a trilogy where each is a direct sequel of the previous one, choices can be carried-forward into the next game. But I'd also agree that they shouldn't plan too far, I'd hate them to end up cutting content from Part I just so they could put it in Part II. :)
