Unplayable Post EE

I've seen a post or two on this, but some time ago I bought TW2 (Steam version) and played it a bit on high settings at 1920x1080. Utterly smooth, no problems, game looked and played great.

Coming back to it today I am getting unplayably low fps and input lag. I have tried virtually every combination of settings, including the lowest possible settings of everything. I have also tried the d3d9.dll/fpslimit config edit tweaks others have recommended.

This is not a system issue, as I played the game on high with no problems pre-patch. My system is up to par:

i5 750
GTX 560Ti
16GB RAM

I've seen some others posting the same issue. Is there any lead on what this is? It isn't a question of settings, as even with everything disabled and on low, I am still getting single-digit fps.

I haven't followed this issue too closely, but my prejudices make me wonder if the other people with problems despite good hardware also have the steam version?

Since you are now entitled to a free backup copy on GoG, as long as you have proof of purchase, I'd suggest you give it a try with the awesome DRM-free version. ;)

I also noticed a slight drop in performance after EE, especially with cinematic depth of field, but nothing that sort you described, and as DelightfulMcCoy said, it is worth using the GoG version (mostly because of the complete lack of DRM), if you are not too interested in the achievments. Also, you are right, that system is fully capable of handling the game.

Fixed, thanks. Whether it's the GoG version or just the fresh install, back to flawless performance. Thanks.

I think it's a valid question, as I think the number of Steam users with problems always tends to be a bit higher, just because of the added complexity (and potential for error) with the Steam installations.

But I have a similar config to the OP, and the Steam version, and didn't have these problems. There is a possibility that some residual setting messes up the install for some people, and even uninstalling the Steam version and starting from scratch isn't necessarily "clean" it. So yes, a fresh install of the GoG version will often give a solution.
