Update 1.62 - Guaranteed CTD in Arasaka Tower's Jungle

+
Went to test out a few people's reports of crashes and can confirm there is a guaranteed crash regarding the Arasaka Tower jungle. It is an easily reproduced issue where the game will CTD immediately upon entering Arasaka Tower's jungle if the player has RTX turned on or turns it on within the jungle. As can be seen, all other settings are turned off.

This is happening on a 3080ti with Win 11 on latest Nvidia 531.58 drivers and did not happen prior to this update, as I've been going through this mission countless of times for other purposes. Others are also massively reporting this issue though some reports crash even without having RTX on.

In any case, this is a guaranteed in-game bug at this point.

For the record never used any mods/trainers and I've been playing since September 2022. Never had any issues with patches nor the launcher, always worked perfectly. As of this update however, replicating this crash even broke the launcher of the game too which always worked perfectly. Now it completely freezes and refuses to even open.

There is also a second newly introduced crash caused by opening the map after playing for a while, which I'm currently investigating and trying to consistently replicate and record since I did manage to experience it as well while testing this one in the jungle. Will be reported as well in time.

EDIT: Managed to isolate the reason why the launcher became broken after testing these crashes on Steam; Fix For CP2077 Launcher Not Starting/Freezing/Crashing

Count me in on that. I’m just not sure what to do about this, the whole thing started with a pop up saying my profile data was hopelessly corrupted (not exact words) and while I could load my game prior to entering Embers, my game was guaranteed to crash every few minutes or less in the forest (chose Rogue ending). I freaking hate 1.62, I’m doing a clean uninstall/reinstall but these reports I’m seeing are giving me very little hope.

I have the same issue. Choosed the ending as Johnny and Rogue and got crashes all the time as soon as i arrive in the jungle. I have re-installed the game (clean), updated the Nvidia drivers, removed all mods, nothing helps.

Now i've loaded my save to choose the Panam-Ending and i got a crash in the camp after returning from the conversation with Alt. Seems like no ending is playable for the moment. Yesterday before the 1.62 patch everything was working fine. I'm quite sad and angry now because i've played about 50h for the first time and i want to see the end of the game :/

Thanks for letting me know, I'll be sure to see if I can reproduce it.

Their updates are usually pretty solid, but these last two were just technical updates so the game is now pretty unstable. Hopefully they'll put out a hotfix eventually.

@SigilFey I’m planning on sending in screenshots of errors as they pop up, the most current save file, the benchmark report you can generate via settings, and a dxdiag (assuming all of that can fit in a report). I’m not good with doing video but is there any other suggestion you can make beyond a simply solid description of the issue?

Don't just rapid-fire support about the issue. One ticket about the issue, described as clearly and concisely as you can. You can link instead to this thread. Including a save file would be the best attachment, with the steps on how to recreate the issue.

The way to make the problem known is ten people sending in one ticket each -- not one person sending in ten tickets in a row. In order for a problem to gain more attention, it needs to be affecting a lot of people. (Even then, problems can't always be found and resolved quickly. It may still take time.)

If you don't receive a reply in about one week, feel free to send a follow up. Or, if something new about the problem is discovered, feel free to send that. (If you encounter a totally different bug, by all means, open a new ticket.)

Submitted the report. Usually I'd report it directly into the crash category, but since it's suggested to put it into Quest, then I sent it there.

I personally always send the following;
  • Brief title of the issue.
  • Detailed description of the issue.
  • How it happens or how it is reproduced.
  • A video that showcases the issue because an issue is always better shown than explained, plus it solidifies the report.
  • A note that I've never used any mods nor trainers - extremely important because it saves them time.
  • Any extra info that may be helpful to the case.
  • Savefiles taken at the spot so they can easily test out the issues.
  • Sometimes I provide multiple saves depending on what I'm reporting, such as in this case I've submitted both Hanako and Rogue path savefiles so they can test it properly.
  • Dxdiag so they can collect data on PC specs and fix the issue by correlating it with other PCs.

Thanks both. I don’t normally send tickets in. Hell, it took me a long time just to find the ‘Contact Us’ link.

I can confirm this issue exists, and I can also confirm it happens whether RTX is enabled or not (on SOME configurations). I contacted CDPR with my findings yesterday so they already have all my crash logs, dxdiag etc.

Importantly, the crash report is novel

""!!!CRASHED!!!Error

Reason: Assert

Expression: heapWithSpace != nullptr

Message: Failed to find or create a descriptor heap with enough available space

File: E:\R6.Release\dev\src\common\gpuApi\src\dx12\gpuApiDX12Descriptors.cppLine: 403"

There are no google results for the crash message prior to this patch, suggesting it is a problem with the implementation of the new technical features leading to this novel message. I'm no expert on GPU APIs - but to me, it looks like the engine wants to create some sort of array or a cache or something, but is being given no place to do so by the new DX12 implementation.

Exactly same issue on the steamdeck too. It is playing well but the moment I entered elevator in the Arasaka tower, it crashes.

can confirm instant crash in saul's camp during the final story mission in the panam route after talking with alt on 1.62 with the novel error posted earlier

crash happens either when you visit the ripperdoc, join him on top of the pickup or even just try to load the game in that area

I’m reinstalling GOG Galaxy and Cyberpunk 2077 today (cleanly) after having updated my NVidia Driver (new one’s out folks!) and hopefully I’ll be able to at least finish the Panam and maybe Reaper ending. I literally had only the final mission to complete after 300 plus in game hours (so not counting restarts or time spent waiting to play) so this update has been a stomach blow.

I did try to test this crash as well, however I wasn't able to replicate one. At least not yet. Talked to Alt, talked to Panam, talked to Saul, tried opening the map and even loaded directly a save within the camp. I tried running it fully maxed with Psycho RTX, but no crash yet.

Also the forums are not the proper place to attach files, these are merely forums for users. If you wish to send crash reports with actual files, you should contact Support here;

got it, now for me it's even crashing just on loading the save, with the exact same error

can't even get into gameplay before it crashes, just from the loading screen

I'll try to dig into it some deeper, maybe I get lucky. But I must admit, I do find it funny though that all 3 endgame missions are bugged and blocking progression :D

Unlucky I think you mean. I really hope I can punch through Panama’s ending and hopefully Reaper (one of them at least). Paracelsuscaspari is not making me feel hopeful. Honestly @paracelsuscaspari I’m hoping the Panam crash is purely you.
