Valheim

I realised we did not have a thread about this excellent game yet, so I decided to create one. I am interested to see how many Vikings we may have around here.

I personally am completely in love with the game, even though it is not even complete yet. It offers tons of freedom, heaps of fun, and countless but hilarious ways to perish. Building is a huge part, exploration another.

Here is an example of the fun I've had in the game with deer friends:

Feel free to share experiences, thoughts, or other comments. Watch out for the necks, though; they may sing, but they are not particularly friendly.

It's a really nice game, especially with friends

In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war. (Not rabbits. It's very clear. Only war. Thankfully, the rabbit problem was finally resolved in the early 11,000s AD, allowing for the Golden Age of Mankind.)

In our current game we just reached the Plains yesterday. Not that far from Mistlands anymore.

We speeded up things a bit by slightly modding the game (teleport metals, not loosing items in death etc), so not completely vanilla this time. We did two or three vanilla runs earlier and now it's time to take things bit easier.

I did bit of testing in Mistlands area during the test phase, but I haven't seen the last boss yet. I'm also eagerly waiting to see Mistlands gameplay with a friend, because in single player it felt bit too challenging for my taste. Or I just had really bad luck and for starters bumped into terrible area. There has also been some gameplay tweaks since, so hopefully things are smoother now.

Visibility is terrible even with wisplight and I constantly felt that I slightly missed several mines because I just wasn't able to see them. Even if I may have been standing almost next to them. The fact that when I finally was able to find three mines (after numerous deaths) and got total of 7 cores out from those, didn't help "too difficult" feeling either. I basically needed 10 or 15 cores for creating myself that feather cape, which is almost obligatory in that area.

But anyhoo, new playthrough has been enjoyable experience again and I'm still loving the game. Mistlands was definitely a great reason to start again = )

Edit: Also first time ever having an island (main) base now and really loving it. No "Ground is shaking" here :D

More Valheim today. We have finally reached Mistlands and after getting all basic and most interesting stuff first, it was time to test some of the truly new features. It has also been a pleasure to notice that gamplay experience in Mistlands is now much better with a friend and after some balance tweaks. Still some annoyances too, but not that bad anymore.

Mage wasn't my first pick, since I tried it a bit during test period and it felt too weak. At least in single player. Fire magic works nicely if you have a melee tank friend, since it seems to deal nice area damage and mage can stay away from the trouble. Ice mage + melee tank combo could also work, since ice slows enemies down. But fire explosions just look much better! :D

However, then I got an idea to combine blood magic with elemental magic and immediately fell in love with Dead Raiser + Staff of Embers combo. Summon (one or) two skeletons who will follow you around and do the melee/archery stuff for you. Then just stay on the back row and spam elemental magic into the mix. Your skeletons won't take damage from your explosions. Tested this a bit in Plains, Black Forest and Swamp and it seemed to be fine even for solo player. Haven't tried it in more hectic combat situations (or in Mistlands) yet, though, but random enemy encounters are definitely doable.

Magic could be my new favorite?

It is rather awkward at first, but, eventually, it makes sense, and can allow you some interesting architectural possibilities. Have fun!
Yep. Still very basic, but it's already more confortable :giggle:
Please to not paying attention to the birch trunk, I can't cut, nor doing anything with yet... I don't knwo how long it will stay here.
(On side note, so funny to die crushed by the tree you're cutting^^)

I don't know if it's due to the controller, but I have a really hard time to aim while fighting because the camera and character direction are totally independent (and the little cross is on the camera view). So you don't hit where you look at, but where your character look at, which is rather destabilizing for me.

Actually...
If you smash the birch log against trees (fully-grown ones), stumps, or other logs, it will take damage and, eventually, break.

I often chop down beech trees near birches, so that I can use the beech logs to try to knock down and break the birch.

I won't lie, there is no remaining tree around, I pretty much deforested the surrounding to build this house :D
The birch trunk will stay there I guess, I plan to relocate my "base". I spoted a nice area for building (I think) while exploring.
