Various PS4 performance issues list.
I see a lot of threads that cover some of the bugs I'm experiencing regarding performance so I'm just going to try and put all the ones I'm experienced into one place.
I'm doing this because I have a sliver of hope CDPR will see this and actually do something about it with real results. Every other game this generation I've done this with hasn't been fixed appropriately and it's really disheartening. I want to love this game, but it's myriad of issues are making it impossible and it worries me if they'll ever all be fixed completely.
1) Frame drops. The game's frame rate drops, as it's been stated numerous times, are everywhere and numerous. I noticed them in White Orchard but they got so much worse after leaving. Anything that's marsh looking slows the game down, and it looks like weather effects can randomly slow the game down for no reason.
2) Camera stutter. Whenever trying to move the camera slower than a twitch shooter while moving, the camera hitches. It happens regardless of horseback or not.
3) Horse animation stutter. I avoid Roach completely because he is very unresponsive in general, but when he's moving at a trot (just pushing the stick and not holding X) the entire game, not just the camera, freezes for half a second at the end of his animation loop. Like it wasn't stitched together properly.
4) NPC's, mostly humans that are the last alive, will start inexplicably walking away from me at the end of a fight facing a different direction but still trying to block.
5) During dialogue the game will randomly become unfocused and stop. Audio may or may not continue. Sometimes the game will look like this even after the dialogue is over and sometimes monsters will attack me randomly in the wilderness after a dialogue is clearly over but the display is still unfocused and frozen.
6) During the first griffin scavenger hunt, you have to go to a lighthouse that is guarded by a very large rooster monster and some drowners. When entering the lighthouse by swimming past the drowners, you remain stuck in combat for random amounts of time and unable to climb up into the building.
7) Bombs seems like they regularly overshoot the target when thrown with quick/autoaim.
8 ) The camera chugs when Geralt is jogging. It's very hard to notice at first, but becomes obvious when you look at objects passing you as you run. They appear to be passing you faster and then all of a sudden slower for a second. It feels like the camera is bouncing to Geralt and then slowing down slightly. It doesn't move at the same speed he does. It very regularly slows down slightly. Feels like every other step it is lagging behind slightly. After a while it can make me feel slightly nauseated.
The first 3 bugs are the ciritcal ones damaging this game. If those are fixed completely, I and many other gamers will be completely happy. With regards to the frame rate drops, I will try to elaborate to possibly help someone looking at this in CDPR.
They happen when running, and especially on horseback. Naturally, it gets worse the faster you go. Doing the bloody baron final mission involving the botchling is really, really rough because the game slows down so much I could barely run myself through town without getting stuck on everything because repsonsiveness was so bad. Sometimes certain effects like a foglet's fog will slow the game to terrible frames. The first time I encountered a foglet in of Dairy and Darkness, it was fine. I'm guessing because I was inside. But out in the world, their special ability seems to be slowing the game to a crawl in fps. I have to avoid them because the performance drop is severe enough it gets me killed. Running through the world at all has frame rate drops. But like I said, it gets so much worse in dense rain, fog, and marshy areas. I don't care what you guys have to do. The game needs to run at a solid 30 frames. I've had to stop playing because the performance issues, mostly the fps fluctuations, make this game more depressing and frustrating than enjoyable. I see the game it wants to be underneath all of this and it warrants my $70 purchase, but it's not there yet. I'm over here hoping and praying against all odds that you guys are the one developer that will completely resolve these issues instead of sort of smoothing them out into tolerable problems like everyone else does.
