Vehicle Suggestions & AutoDrive Improvements

+
Hey there, CD Projekt Red team and community. I'm new to the forums and was hoping to post suggestions for future updates. My suggestions are relatively simple.

As of the latest update (version 2.31) we got the Legatus 450 Aquila, ARV-Q340 Semimaru, ASM-R250 Muramasa and the Caliburn "Mordred." I've been hoping that eventually we would have the Zeya U420 (miniature box truck,) the Centurion 1000 6WD (regular version of the Legatus,) Bratsk "Behemoth" (effectively a mobile command center,) and the Cortes V6000 NCPD Overlord.

To expand upon the police vehicle, there are several points where V has the option to assist various different officers. There is also a large portion of the game that directly assists the NCPD overall, such as the NCPD Scanner locations and the Cyberpsycho sightings, as well as a section where a Maxtac operative directly invites you to join Maxtac, which would mean joining the NCPD. Why not be able to receive an honorary cruiser for all of the hard work V puts in to help out the police?

Finally, the first thing I noticed with the update was the overhaul to the AutoDrive feature. It's by far much more smooth, seamless, and only has very few areas (I believe I've found 4 total) where it fails, usually by taking too sharp of a turn and ramming your vehicle into a wall or barrier. I feel that not very many people utilize this feature, as even with the update, the top speed reaches 75 MPH, then it slows down to 65 MPH, then accelerates to 75 MPH, repeat. Before the overhaul, after roughly 30 seconds of driving at around 40 MPH, any time that the vehicle reached a straight road, it would attempt to drive upwards of 100 to 120 MPH before coming to a stop for a turn. In my honest opinion, I feel that increasing the cruising speed to 95 to 100 MPH would give people more incentive to use this feature, as it would get them to their mission or waypoint as fast as manually driving while also avoiding collisions.

As an alternative to adding the previously mentioned vehicles to AutoFixer, maybe an update could be pushed through to allow us to use AutoDrive with any vehicle, including Vehicle Gigs and stolen vehicles. Maybe it's just me, but I love getting into different vehicles and seeing how the AI reacts in certain situations. I've always enjoyed games where I can mess with bots or AI features and see how the game responds.

More vehicles -- why the heck not? I'm always game for more options, if possible.

Autodrive is still being polished up, as far as I know. There are quite a lot of players posting issues about it, so I'm sure we'll see improvements to it in the future. I'm not sure about the top speed thing. The game needs to be able to make calculations on a schedule, and higher speeds mean that it's far more likely to result in the driving system borking out, as the car may need to be adjusted before the next scheduled check. In my mind, cruising should keep things to the "speed limit". Driving fast should require hands-on. (In other words, activating autodrive should probably have NPC vehicles passing you from time to time. :D )

Joining the NCPD / Max-Tac has been rolling discussion since before the game was ever released. Here's my take on it:

V is in no position to "join" the police. I think it would have been cool if perhaps it was a lifepath choice, and V could have been a beat cop becoming a detective, but it would have meant completely re-imagining their role in the main storyline. It's also far, far away from being an Edgerunner, which was kind of the heart and soul of Cyberpunk 2020 and on. It's possible to create a believable take on it, but the amount of character work, dialogue, scenework, etc. that would need to go into qualifying that is probably a bit much to ensure it's as fleshed out and qualified as other interactions and quest lines in the game. V working as an "official vigilante" is more in line with the character arcs available in the game. You never know, though. Right from the very first proof of concept trailer released back in 2013...it was clear that someone was considering a character that started off cyberpsycho and wound up a Max-Tac agent.

Definitely good takes. I had thought about the AI reactions to the increased AutoDrive speed would be easily solved with increasing the distance at which the vehicle AI could determine "there is a turn approaching, slow down to X speed to avoid collision." I want to say the reaction distance is roughly 30 to 40 meters, which increasing the speed could mean increasing the reaction distance to probably about 50 meters. It also appears as if they built the AutoDrive mapping system off of the NPC pathing, since that was how it functioned before the overhaul was made, meaning adjusting the speed would more than likely entail adjusting the distance at which the AI perceives an obstacle or a change in the bathing.

As for the police side, I hadn't considered the option of V becoming an NCPD officer or anything that far in depth. I was mainly talking about receiving an NCPD vehicle as a reward for completing either all of the NCPD side gigs, or as a reward for completing certain side stories that involved assisting the NCPD. I feel that having the vehicle like the Cortes V6000 NCPD Overlord added to be available for purchase or as a reward would be maybe roughly a week of time and effort put into an update, versus an entire NCPD storyline which translates to months of time and effort. Just wanted to clarify that one, since I think there may have been a bit of a misunderstanding.
