Very poor performance since patch 1.10

Very poor performance since patch 1.10

Looking at the forum recently I can tell that I'm not the only person that is angry on how recent patch instead of improvement brought much lower perforce to many players. Mostly much lower FPS and does not matter if you have high end PC like me or a good PC capable of running Witcher 3 at respectable settings.

The thing that I want to highlight in this post is that even SLI scaling was somehow f*cked in this patch as well. Instead of 85-90 FPS that I use to got with everything on Uber settings and Hair-works on I now got mid 50 FPS and lower. What is interesting, the game does not want to use power of my rig at full. I got i7 4790k and 2x 980 that are factory OC, 16 GB Ram 2666mhz, game is on SSD.

I run the stress tests on my cards to see if they are good and yes they are, they run on about 98% at full load. Yet when I want to play W3, their performance jumps a lot, usually between 59% to 84% and I can see this in FPS jumps.

I reinstalled the game, the drivers etc.

I don't know what else is wrong but lower performance from cards affects how well the game runs.

I got some screen shots as well.

Any suggestions or answer from someone from CDPR?

Hang on... based on that screenshot 58fps is "poor" performance. So you've had a drop from 90. It's hard to feel any sympathy when its still kicking round 60. If it had dropped to 20 I could understand your complaint but how is this preventing you from playing the game?

As a suggestion. Play and enjoy the game that is running at around 60fps and be glad you can run it at that.

I captured the screen at 58 FPS and game was running for about a minute just to get such screen, usually is lower as I said in first post. I can feel the difference a lot as I play on G-sync monitor and you can feel the difference of minus 30 FPS.

With machine like that and drop by 40 FPS I would call it a poor/bad performance too. Also, framerate is unstable after that patch and it can jump from 58 to 40 in a second. Even when pausing the game and when paused FPS is unstable and jumps from 50 to 57.

Also, the guy said he does have G-sync monitor, on which you really notice the difference in FPS. Especially when it drops below 50.

As a suggestion realise this is a tech support forum and you are not helping. If the game performance used to be substantially higher this is a sign of a problem that many of us would like to have fixed - and this is exactly the place we should discuss that.

kostuch999, if you are running the 358.50 driver, update to the 358.59 hotfix as there was an issue causing G-Sync performance issues.
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/885014/geforce-drivers/announcing-geforce-hotfix-driver-358-59

Unfortunately though even with that fix SLI performance seems to have decreased substantially with the latest patch, I've tried everything I can think of to fix it and can only conclude it's just because of the patch.
I've gone into more detail here http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/58855-Performance-is-very-bad-since-Patch-1-10?p=1939405&viewfull=1#post1939405

I seen your post and I and is really good, detailed explanation of the issue, what is interesting, not every SLI user have this problem. I seen people on 980 or 980ti on 2x SLI still running the game at 97/98% load. However they were experiencing stuttering and lack of smoothness in game play. I remember patch 1.06 which was absolute gold. I was able to hit max refresh rate of 144 in few places. I know this patch was intended to minimise pop ins. Which I never had prior patch 1.07 but some people had from the start...

The driver fix helped a bit but the jumps in the GPU load are massive. Cards started to hit 99% load occasionally.

U guys are all forgetting allot of things let me explain ignore my bad english.

After the latest patch 1.10 graphics improved allot everything looks darker sharper more crispy more real just better, so expect a performance drop a bit.
Secondly the game also hovers on my set-up in gpu useage but thats normal sometimes its 55% of use then its 98 to 99 of gpu-useage the reason for this is it depands where u are in the game in a city like novingrad i have about 50- 65 gpu useage because there is not much graphics work there, there are no tree,s no hard winds not allot of monster and not much grass or hills so thats normal.

When u in Kear Morden or whatever u spell it u see high gpu-use thats normal because u in the wildenis the gpu need to do much more work for its graphics.
Also when it stormy u also see that your gpu do more work same goes with swamp part in the game, in city,s my gpu useage and tempature are allot cooler then when i am in Kear Morden.

If SigilFey read this he understands what i mean sorry for my sh!tty english xD

I must say that my performance is much better in Kaer Morhen than Novigrad. Anyway, general performance is a lot worse after 1.10 patch. Actually, it gets worse patch by patch and I don't know what to do anymore. I'm trying to tweak a lot (and with "a lot" I mean A LOT) but I always come back to the usual tweaks to get the best performance that are poor. I love the saga, I love this game, but I'm sick of how it's made. It's the only game on earth that I can't run. Even the lates Metal Gear runs fine.

I see "performance fix" in every patch, but actually gets horribly worse. And I refuse to re-download and re-install all those GBs. Probably it just won't fix anything,

Use GOG galaxy and update the game to latest version, GOG galaxy has newer version than the download list on gog.com.

There's some unnecessary files in the x64 folder like d3d11.dll that make the game run worse. After I've updated it with GOG galaxy they are no longer there and the game performance is back to normal.

Also try alt tabbing and going back into the game, most new games seem to benefit from this, for example GTA V because it triggers triple buffering. I play the game at 30 fps locked with as many config tweaks for shadows and distance as possible, everytime I launch the game I have to alt tab and go back in to have that console-like 30 fps smooth lock with smoothly moving screen. Same thing happens in GTA V, which is double buffered unless you alt tab and go back in, then the triple buffering kicks in. It also nulifies input lag which is present before alt tabbing.

You can also try switching between windowed and fullscreen mode, sometimes its stuck in one mode but lists the other one in options wrongly.
