At least I managed to install the game , but problems are still here !When I launch the game (launcher.exe), an error occured (The Witcher stopped working, I'm not sure of the translation, but there is no more information).I'm on Vista 64 SP1 (so no problem with the first hotfix of the FAQ), and I installed the EAX patch. I also tried to run the game as admin or by using XP compatibility. Do you have any idea on how solve that?
do attach the file ERRLOG.TXT from The Witcher/System folderread: Getting tech help on the forum and attach that PCWizard report as instructed ( use the older version of PCWizard if you have problems with the newer one )

Hi there, I've been having a lot of trouble with this game. Can't get past the load screen without a complete system crash; it shuts down the whole computer, waits about 3 seconds and restarts. I think I've tried just about everything listed previously in this forum and still to no avail. I don't get a error log report and I did run PCWizard 2008 and will include that file. I re-installed it once and previous to that I had the EE pack installed and I get the same result as with the original install. I did have this game on a Pentium 4 3.06 system with 2gb of ram and a EVGA 7800GS OC video card and it ran ok, but the system worked hard to make the game look great, but none the less it still ran the game. Now, I have a cutting edge system and it doesn't run it at all. I have a 965 Extreme i7 in a Rampage II Extreme mobo with a GTX295 graphics card, 6gb of ram all run by Vista Premium 64-bit. Windows update tells me that i don't need the hotfix and when I try to install it any way, it won't allow me. I'm really frustrated and can't seem to find anything that will cure this problem that my system is having. Please help me out, I don't want to uninstall and forget this game because I really enjoyed it when it worked on my last system. :wall:

i need help got the enhanced version ive got it installed and registerd all my drivers up to date i think its my vista home premium edition 32 bit is the problem i can get the launch page up on the screen and can use the read me manual but when i click on launch the mouse icon changes to a cd for a few seconds then i get message witcher not responding ive tried downloading that vista patch from the check upgrades screen it says not applicable for my system but according to vista i got that update with sp1 plus ive got automatic updates im using a dell xps 420 with a 700w psu an intel core 2 quad processor 7200rpm ati radeon 3870x2 graphics card upgrading to the 4890 soon and 4GB DDR2 800MHz memory my email is kingrabbit88200@yahoo.co.uk dying to play this game any help much appeciated.ive turned of my firewall when loading but makes no differnce have no other programs running like internet homepage open or stuff like that when trying to launch the game

It seems that the patch I used wasn't the good one (I had to replace some files by others...).I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and fixed it with the good one (found in the FAQ). But the problem is still here. I joined the errlog.txt it may help.

To anyone that re install their video drivers.... ALWAYS use the proper procedure which is :Video card removal and installation the RIGHT wayThis step is very important. Lots of problems come from video driver not installed properly. You may think that installing your video driver is simply downloading it and installing it over the old one. Well this is one of the major mistake!! So follow this and you should not have many problems. 1. You need to download a couple of things: i. Video driver Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us ii. ATI: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html iii. If you own a laptop, display drivers don't get updated or are updated way too late. Good news, you can find a third party driver for your card. iv. OMEGA http://www.omegadrivers.net/ v. Laptop Video To Go Website http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ vi. Nvidia Laptop drivers site http://www.ngohq.com/ 2. Driver Sweeper i. Driver Sweeper http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)_d1655.html#download 3. Head into control panel > add remove programs and select your Nvidia or ATI display drivers and remove them 4. Restart into safe mode - to get into safe mode keep pressing F8 while your machine is booting 5. Once in safe mode run driver sweeper, and clean using ATI or Nvidia setting depending on what card you have (don't remove Nvidia chipset as you may lose your internet connection and cause other problems) 6. Restart into normal mode once cleaning is finished 7. If the “new device found” start, press cancel as soon as you can. 8. Install your new drivers and restart after installation completes 9. Enjoy your fresh new video card drivers

Go directly in C:\Program Files\The Witcher Enhanced Edition\System Folder and start the game with the file witcher.exe.right click on it, set it to compatibility mode, be sure to put a check beside Disable Theme, get out of it, right click on it again and run as admin... Look if there is again an error message and if it is different... Also, did you went on Tages website to update your tages driver ?

Even by launching the game with witcher.exe there is the same problem.I properly install the drivers, and the Tages drivers are updated.I must say that it makes me crazy T_T

Hi again, I updated everything you mentioned and then I installed the EAX hotfix, all of the EE upgrades, set the exe to run as admin, disabled themes, put UAC in quiet mode and it still shut me down once I saw the Atari trademark at the very beginning of the game launch. :wall:

In Vista, there is a memory test... http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/test-your-computers-memory-using-windows-vista-memory-diagnostic-toolFollow the instruction there and let us know the result.

Thanks for reply, I ran the test and there are no problems or errors. I did run the adventure editor and the game started in a window, I got excited thinking that the game was fixed but I couldn't get a new game to start. After I tried to start the game from the dvd, it crashed again and shut everything down like it had before. About three seconds later the computer rebooted. Thought we had it fixed, but maybe the next idea will be the cure... Any more ideas ? :'(
