OK, here's my thinking on the whole issue..... I've had numerous crashes due to trying to open my journal. Lemme see...um, yeah, that's not supposed to happen. After long cutscenes when looting bodies, I also get a crash. I'm no genius, but aren't the games supposed to work with the operating system and not vice versa? Atari has no technical support whatsoever for this game, and I think it's high time we all stand together and make them face up for the problems in Vista. Everyone who gives a damn please send a message to Atari, and we'll get through eventually. They should be making game developers work around the clock to fix these errors...Vista isn't new anymore...fix YOUR stuff Atari and try and save some face. It's an awesome game but it should be one that can be played on any OS.

Hi all,I had two random (it seemed) crashes playing The Witcher with the last patch - so I waited. And today I installed the latest patch (1.2), assured that I had the Vista hotfix and the newest NVidea drivers. The game crashed once in the finishing scene of the tutorial. Then it went quite fine - at least for three hours. Sadly enough, it crashed right while saving the game (I didn't knew *that* would happen, so I overwrote the latest savegame file... which is corrupt now after the crash). I have an auto-save file left, but the last 30 minutes are gone.Hope, you're still working on that problem. My system:- Vista Business - 32Bit- Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 - 2.66GHz- Sparkle NVidIa 8600 GT 512MByte- 2048 MByte RAM(no overclocking)Ingo

Well I suggest everyone who is effected by this issue to fill out this form, http://www.atari.com/us/support/supportemail/supportemail_form.php?productName=The+Witcher&osType=Apprently posting on this board hasnt produced any results whatsoever. It is sad when the consumer has to come up with work arounds to get a game to work. What is worse is having this issue since day 1, having many angry people express thier disguss for the lack of any real fix or even suggestion that a fix is being worked on for this issue. I say if you want results it goes back to the consumers, FILL OUT THE FORM and let them know how you feel! My case number is #00045136...

Thanks for the link Eboskie1. I have sent in the form. I also sent off a note to Corporate Investor Relations. The arrogance of these people is without measure, however, and I expect little or no assistance from any of the Atari execs or Techies!

Below is what I sent to Atari Customer Support via the form (Thanks to Eboskie1 for the link):http://www.atari.com/us/support/supportemail/supportemail_form.php?productName=The+Witcher&osType=(Not sure how much it will help, but I think Vista users are more likely to be noticed by following this procedure than mearly writing things out in the forum. This is a good place for us to communicate, but I have a strong feeling they are not paying enough attention to this thread.)I also followed their instructions for sending the DirectX Diagnostic information just for kicks and giggles - link: http://www.atari.com/us/support/supportemail/diagfilehowto.php#dxdiagBut I'm making this post here, so other Vista users know just how NOT ALONE they are and also so that I CAN RANT AND RAVE, MYSELF! :-O (It is theraputic)* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Processor: Intel Core2 6600 @ 2.40 GHzMemory: 2.00 GBVideo Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTXOS: Vista Ulitimate (32bit)Windows Hotfix InstalledThe Witcher 1.2 Patch InstalledLatest Graphics Drivers Installed- - -I have been playing The Witcher all day - for over 12 hours. Here's the pattern I've seen: If I play, relying on the autosaves, I can go a long ways, but if I do a manual save, then die and attempt to load my manual save, I have found that it is GONE 8 out of 10 times and I end up having to use an older auto save. Twice I have tried to use the Quick Save (F5) and the game crashed DURING those saves. Bottom line ... for me, the quick saves don't work and the manual saves work about 20% of the time. I can get much further in the game by relying on the autosaves, which pretty much sucks when one goes through a door an hour ago and then has to face a nasty monster that kills you and you die. I've been playing Morrowind and Oblivion for years (Both are two of the buggiest games I know of, but still my favorite games ever made, so I'm rather used to this kind of thing and am pretty patient - but The Witcher is wearing me OUT! ;-)I DO like this game a LOT, but to play sections of it over and over again is really starting to get old. Could have sworn that I read that the latest patch was addressing these issues??? I'd recommend the game to my friends, but they are all using Vista now, so I think I'll just keep my mouth shut about it until the Vista kinds are officially worked out.(Also, I should note that I have experienced crashes today when going through doors, also when entering new cells and once today after a cut scene.)ANY HELP OR ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! (or if this information is helpful for a future patch for Vista users, since so many of us are experiencing the same problems, that would be FINE TOO.)See the following forum thread (especially the last few pages, so you will know that your patch did not help Vista users):http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=4565.0

While trying to get the game to run under Vista (after doing the hotfix, reinstalling the latest drivers, etc.), I thought "What the hell", and reinstalled DirectX from the MS website (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en). Lo and behold, the game was suddenly able to run. I still have the random save/load crashes, but I had those under WinXP with NWN and NWN 2, so I think that problem derives from the engine itself.

Quick question, since most of my problems are with my save games (as mentioned in my previous post here in the Vista thread), I was wondering if anyone can tell me where The Witcher saves the saved games in the Vista setup? I went to my user location, found a folder called Saved Games, but the Witcher saves are not in there. Looked in the Program Files area and don't see them there either. I'd really like to be able back up some saves from time to time, but I'm getting nowhere fast.THANKS!

They should be under Documents\The Witcher\saves.Maybe they're hidden if they're not there.

Thing is... there are 1000's+ of people who play the game who have Vista and DON'T have a problem. Its sertainly a tricky one to trouble shoot as there is no common link with the machine builds.... apart from the possable fact that 98% of people with the issue have nVidia 8000 series VGA cards and higher. I have only seen a handfull of people with ATI****HD VGA cards with the issue. Maybe thats where is Issue lies. Since nVidia's drivers for vista are shite.

Hi I think that The Witcher game can be run through Windows XP compatibility even if you Windows Vista. The following may help with the crashing problems so READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY:1. Find the The Witcher directory (where you installed the game). Go to: My Computer, (C:) Drive, Program files, The Witcher.2. You will see a icon labelled "launcher". Right click on that icon and sellect "Properties"3. A box should come up with 6 different tabs, select "Compatibility"4. You should now see "Compatibilty mode", Tick the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Then select Windows XP (Service Pack 2)5. Click "apply"I just realized about this myself and I had the same crashing issues before. Theres no guarentee that this may work becuase i havent tested it myself yet, but if it does be sure to send me some thanks eh?Always trust a kiwi to fix your problem

Compatibilty mode doesn't work. As stated previously in the Vista Issues thread.

i couldn't play beyond 10 - 30 min. and my system would freeze but after setting the wither.exe from “C:\Program Files\The Witcher\System” to compatibility mode to “Windows XP” and running it as an administrator , no more freezes…. Playing beyond 3h and more with no problems….. at last I’m playing

PresentI've got an ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with the patch and hotfix and latest drivers, yet I still have the same problem. My game tends to crash when I'm saving a game or loading an area. That chance is probably about 10% I save/load, but it is really annoying to keep replaying parts.I've also played this game on a computer with XP and a ATI Radeon 9600 PRO which was very slow due to the card, but at least stable.Another game I have called X3: Reunion has the exact same problem, but less frequent. Therefore I'm pretty sure it is related to windows vista.
