(my sysem specs are below)just updated my original retail version of the Witcher to to the enhanced edition (previous vesion worked with no probs)the intro cinimatic plays with no issues.the menu screen comes up but theres, no background to the menu, can cange all manner of settings etc. When i go to new campain theres the option for the main game or a new adventure, put the boxes again don't have a picture. just to avoid any misunderstanding i can see the text perfectly fine, just the images are blank)then in the difficulty screen everything is normal as in the screen for mouse control. The games starts to load with artwork "loading Kvear Morgan exterior (or something)" and then the game crashes out with a windows message "the Witcher has stopped working" and assures me that it will notify me of a solution (guess i can sleep easy) it doesnt give me any form of report so i cant post it here.my specs are below and would appreciate any help availble.> > Mainboard : Gigabyte EP45-DS3R > Chipset : Intel P43 > Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2400 MHz > Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM ) > Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT > Hard Disk : Hitachi (500 GB) > Hard Disk : NDAS (400 GB) > DVD-Rom Drive : PIONEER BD-ROM BDC-202 ATA Device > Monitor Type : LG Electronics L226WTQ - 23 inches > Monitor Type : Unspecified > Network Card : Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC > Network Card : Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC > Operating System : Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium Home Edition 6.00.6001 Service Pack 1 > DirectX : Version 10.00 > Windows Performance Index : 5.6

Its the 32bit version and I did download that fix. I gotta admit it has fixed the problem of the game crashing when trying to save, but now I'm starting to see random crashes when the game is trying to load up either a cut scene or some other story related event.

I'm at a point where I go to the Private investigators house (Act II, in Vizema) where hes being attacked by the Salamandra. AS SOON as I try and leave the house, it crashes. I fail to see how it could be my hardware as its the same spot everytime, but here it is:Vista 64bit4870X28GB rame85001.4 Enhanced EditionThere has not been one problem until this point, whenever I exit his house door it crashes straight away. Highly disappointing having the game since release date, and waiting till now to finally play it thinking all the bugs would be fixed -_-

Hi Blazzeo. It's some consolation to me that someone else who has a similar PC to mine (i.e. very high spec.) is also having problems.Don't hold your breath though! According to the start of this topic ProjectRed have known about compatibility problems with Vista for 11 months and so far have failed to solve it.I have played The Witcher 4 times now. Three times on my old PC (5-yrs old and below the minimum spec to run it - but it did) and once on my new high-spec PC. I have a number of saved games from the last time I played it, and they either crash when I try to load them, or load, but then crash within a short time. Now these are saved games from when I completed the game on this PC, so they worked OK with patch 1.3 It's only since I installed TWEE that they no longer work. So it's definitely something that has happened since I installed TWEE. I've posted about this before and included a PCWizard report, as I get to the point very early on in the game where Leo and Geralt start to go down the stairs to the Witchers Lab and then it crashes. So I just cannot continue with the game. Although the mods keep telling people to post a PCW report, I'm not sure what good that is as nothing seems to happen with them. It's all very frustrating really.

I have the same exact problem. Sadly, I'll never be able to finish the game if it keeps crashing like this.

Black map is a key indicater on mine that it will crash on the next save too. I believe my friend who has a near identicle pc as mine but running XP SP2 is also having this issue. I am not so sure it is vista specific.

So, I have the game, it is updated to 1.3. I then update it to 1.4. It won't load.So I uninstall, then reinstall, then update straight to 1.4 (re-downloading the files, cause I deleted them the first time). Still won't start. There is no opening, there is nothing. My screen goes black for a few seconds (with a standard mouse cursor that is movable) and then it drops me back to desktop, SOMETIMES with this error...Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: witcher.EXE Application Version: 1.4.5.1282 Application Timestamp: 489d12ce Fault Module Name: witcher.EXE Fault Module Version: 1.4.5.1282 Fault Module Timestamp: 489d12ce Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0018273e OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: fd00 Additional Information 2: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 Additional Information 3: fd00 Additional Information 4: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160I tried the EUX download fix, that didn't work. I tried to find my hardware acceleration to turn it down for like an hour, only to find out, Vista doesn't have that at all.So I searched the forums for like forever, trying to find other people with Vista and this problem. Seems like the only two other vista users I found didn't have any problems with Vista. I had a problem starting the game but didn't get this exact error on Vista. I found by changing my desktop resolution to 640x480 before running the launcher got it to start (the game wont run in 640x480, dont worry), and so far I've had no problems. If that doesn't work I dont know what to tell you...

I cannot even get my resolution to go that low. I tried it at the lowest setting (800x600) and it didn't work. Same error message as before. But thanks for the attempt.

No problem. Sorry though. Seems there are all kinds of Vista problems caused by all kinds of things. It may be awhile yet before things get straightened out, if ever. :'(I'll remain optimistic though.

So the game finally crashed on me after many many hours of enjoying myself.I looked in the installation folder to see if there is an error log and there appears to be the information provided below.I was outside of the cave, and had just hit the save button than no sooner had I done that when the game crashed with the usual "check for a solution" and close the game option window. This was found in the error log in the games installation folder:The Witcher Crash Log==============================================Build: 1.4.5.1282 (08/09/08 05:37:08)Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATIONWrite to location 00000000EAX=00000000 EBX=7151745D ECX=00792000 EDX=00000016 ESI=00000000EDI=00000000 EBP=2F14C6D1 ESP=01C6F9E0 EIP=007E95D2 FLG=00010206CS=001B DS=0023 SS=0023 ES=0023FS=003B GS=0000Call Stack--------------------001B:007E95D2 (0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000) witcher.EXE, initializeEngine1()+623010 byte(s)Mini dump written successfully.System: VistaCrash time: 9/23/2008 00:04:34User: CB2 processor(s), type 58691% memory in use2046 MB physical mem176 MB physical mem free2048 MB virtual mem.106 MB virtual mem free.Total Reserved: 243380KTotal Commit: 1745260KTotal Free: 108448KLargest Free: 7400K-----------------------------------------------------------Aurora Info1 block(s) not fit in arenas0 trimesh(es) optimized0 uncompressed texture(s) loaded via CAurTextureLoader-----------------------------------------------------------Module 1 - Hi,Since downloading the EE, I have 2 problems. The first is the much longer time the game takes to load to the saved game options and second the crashes I am getting at points which never happened before. It just says that the witcher has stopped working. In some situations prior to the crash it is when I go into the map menu the map is black then it crashes. Anyone got any experience on this? I am on vista 32 and never had a crash on game before update.
