no, just make a folder somewhere, run DXSETUP.EXE, and you can delete the folder after the successful installation

I've been playing my Witcher EE (DVD) for a couple of weeks now with no problems. Then all of a sudden my game crashes to desktop everytime I leave a building in Vizima.

Just a quick question: is this on a particular save game? Or does other saves from earlier acts / areas give the same result?I know, I know. An irritatingly stupid question, but it must be asked. :peace:How about starting a new game and playing through the prologue. Any problems then?

i was going to tackle this angle after all things got updatedi have a strong feeling that this happens in Chapter 3yet savegame issues were mostly in the Swap/Cemetery/City dungeons, and not buildings

Unfortunately, I'm not home right now, but I had thought that it might be the save, so I've tried going back to a previous save to check and the same result. I might try starting the prologue to see if it crashes too, but this problem just start when I came back to Vizma after the first few swamp missions.I'll install DirectX this afternoon and attach a errlog. Thanks for all your help.

:hmmm: Chapter 2, not 3. But I get you point Licaon_Kter.I always try the simplest approach first, because (for example) trying an earlier savegame is far easier and less potentially damaging than updating your drivers.

Well I loaded the DirectX and went back to a previous save (which started right outside the Hairy Bear Inn) and it seemed to be working. I was able to enter another buidling and come out of it and leave to go to the docks and re-enter the city again. It seems to have problems after getting the messenger drunk for the WANTED Quest. I get the information, sleep off the drunkness and head out of the Hairy Bear Inn...Then it crashed me.

LICAON_KTER thanks for your help! The game is installed on my "D" drive I believe because thats where I have installed almost all of my games. I do not play any games from the "H" drive ATM. What save game do you wish me to send to you? I am playing TWEE with the EAX / Blur hotfix installed. Also like I said ...It is a RANDOM crash problem...I can just be running around in the world and it crashes....like it did last night in the swamp....I was just running along and poof the Vista error box pops up and I have to close the game. ATM I am at work so I will not be able to get the info you are requesting until I get home tonight. Thanks again for your help! :)

I just bought the game yesterday, I installed it, and as once I tried to boot it for the first time I got the message from Microsoft saying that it stopped responding, I looked around the web, tried various tips to get it working, I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, apply some of those same tips, such as the EAX hotfix, eventually I gave up, I tried the 640 x 480 res, windows xp SP2 and run as admin compatibly and it worked once last night, I turn off my computer, go to bed, wake up, try to boot it up and I'm getting the same problem, I checked and the compatibility 640 x 480 res, windows xp SP2 and run as admin and it won't work this time, I've tried loading up the witcher.exe since I try to load it up from the games folder in the vista start up menu and it won't even attempt to load it when I click launch the game in the menu that pops up since I don't get a crashing message or anything. I'm running the patch 1.4.5.1280, The witcher Enhanced Edition, Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and it's definitely not because my hardware isn't powerful enough, I attached a report from PC wizard. Any help is appreciated, I got this game to have some fun for once during spring break and so far all this game which is suppose to be pretty good from what I've heard has been doing nothing but giving me a headache lol.
