all my stuff disappeared ha! is this altar for storage or something else?

It's not for storage, but for making offerings to the Vodyanoi (that's what the locals use it for, and Geralt can as well). Never used it myself so I don't know exactly how it works.

If that's the altar by the clay pits, it's involved in a quest.
