Yeah, part of me suspects that the first-person perspective might be to keep that door open if it suddenly takes off, though I doubt they currently have any plans in that regard (more likely, their focus after launch will be either multiplayer, DLC/expansion stuff, or a combination of both).
Not really interested in VR, myself. There are too many genres where it's rendered pointless, and my caveman instincts clash with the idea of strapping things to my face that blind me to predators. It's probably here to stay regardless, but not in a mainstream, replacing-normal-gaming kind of way. More likely, it'll exist as a viable platform for indie devs to experiment and get seen without being buried by 10 million asset flips and low-effort pieces of garbage on Steam and sustain itself that way.
