DyreStraits brought up a good point, most LCD monitors have a fixed refresh rate so make sure your not trying to froce a higher one, playing at the native resolution is usualy the best idea but typically shouldnt affect anything. Also what is the response time of your monitor? Anything above 8ms will could cause a smilar effect to screen tearing, ive seen some older dell and other minotrs that havea response time of 16ms and are really bad for gaming.I have a LCD monitor and have never had an issue with it, dont worry about buying one they are way better then CRT, i could never go back, but when you buy one make sure its good quality, there are a couple considerations when buying one, make sure the respnsetime is 8ms or less, the brightness should be atleast 250 cd/m², the higher the better, and youll want a contrast ratio of atlesat 1000:1 or higher.

in my original post I put that info. 5ms repsonse time, 2500:1 contrast ratio. Anyways I was able to activate vsync when Im in windows xp 64 bit and triple buffering and that got rid of the problem. now the only problem im having is when Im running from point A to point B the camera starts to kinda bump up every few seconds as Im running. Its odd. Ive heard that grass gives people problems but when It doesnt make a difference if that is on or off. the only way I could describe it is its like something keeps tapping the camera upwards, then it goes down and gets tapped up. Only happens when im running though. low isometric or high doesnt make a difference. OST doesnt do it I dont think but I hate that view. Thanks

Forcing it on in Nvidia Control Panel does nothing, games look like crap without Vsync. How can I get it working in this game?

That's odd, it works for me when I force it in the catalyst control center.I'd say do the usual, install the latest directX and reinstall your nvidia drivers, can't help much more than that as I have not used any modern nvidia cards.

I'm afraid this game is plague with bits of screen-tearing. Some, more than others. I get very little screen-tearing but it's tolerable. I can't say the same for everyone. I tried turning on Vsync in CCC as well, to no avail. I guess we'll have to live with it.

I use it with a 4870X2 on Vista 64 and it works, I was just getting an occasional light horizontal line. The triple buffering works, no halved framerates.

I have this weird problem with my 4870x2. I am running Catalyst 8.12 drivers, and am forcing on VSYNC and Tripple Buffering along with 16x AF. Everything works fine, apart from the VSYNC. For some stupid reason The Witcher runs the game intro cutscenes at over 1000fps, additionally, the menu's run at some ludicrous FPS and so do the loading screens. This causes my GPU to overload itself and the computer reboots as if there were a memory leak.I am running Vista X62 SP1 with all the latest patches. Is this a common problem? The same problem has been happening between 8.7 - 8.12 Catalyst Drivers. Thanks

I have a CRT with Vista 64, I'm trying to get The Witcher to run at 100hz. I'm wondering if there's any way to do this, like edit a config file somewhere. With NWN I had to edit some INI file to achieve this. My game defualts at 60hz as it is now and its driving me crazy. Is there any way to set the game to use a higher refresh rate?

can you delete the/any video mode with 60Hz ( or with a lower refresh rate than 100Hz ) from your video card's control panel?

Hi AllI don't really know how to describe this problem I'm having. During cut scenes, I sometimes get little lines across the screen - kind of like some of the pixels aren't lining up correctly. It's driving me nuts! It's pretty hard to catch on a camera, but I did my best to show you guys what I mean.Hopefully the picture will give you guys a better idea of what I mean. I've tried forcing the anisotropy up, as well as enabling vertical sync and triple buffering. None of it gets rid of the problem. Thanks for your help :)

Hi makotoisle :) hmmm, looks like tearing... what video card do you have, just out of curiosity? What's the behaviour of the lines? Do they appear and then won't go away for a few frames or until the picture changes, or do they only flicker in and out? And only in cut scenes? So, nothing similar happens when you're playing the game? Also, it's kind of appreciated around here if you could edit your posts instead of double posting. And the third pic is awesome, it looks like Geralt is wearing a circlet! How aristocratic :)

It does look like tearing, which theoretically would be solved by activating VSync. However, I always thought that such tearing would only be possible on actual gameplay, where the fps and frequency are not always constant. To my understanding these things are constant during a "recorded" video scene.

Sorry about the double post!I'm running on two Nvidia 8800 GTS's in SLi.They only flicker in and out. I don't ever notice them in the actual game; but that might be because I'm usually not taking in everything; just the fights, etc. I forced Vsync and Triple Buffering to ON for the Launcher.exe in the Nvidia control panel.
