Did the VSync cahnge anything?Try deactivating it in the Nvidia Control Panel and activate it in the game. I once had it that due to a change in my Radeon Control Panel a game woudn't start...Also the SLI might affect the tearing. Not sure, as I am not very knowledgeable on SLI.Have you tried it with one of the cards deactivated?

The VSync in the control panel didn't change anything. Maybe I'm just retarded :-X But I don't see a VSync option in the actual game. I have tried it with one of the cards disabled, and saw the same results. That's actually what got me to SLi my cards in the first place; usually I don't SLi them by default unless the game really needs it ^_^

Hi AllI don't really know how to describe this problem I'm having. During cut scenes, I sometimes get little lines across the screen - kind of like some of the pixels aren't lining up correctly. It's driving me nuts! It's pretty hard to catch on a camera, but I did my best to show you guys what I mean.Hopefully the picture will give you guys a better idea of what I mean. I've tried forcing the anisotropy up, as well as enabling vertical sync and triple buffering. None of it gets rid of the problem.

those are movies, they don't get AA or AF, they look the same on every systemtry to force VSync with D3DOverride from RivaTuner

Try this freeware tool called "refresh lock" http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rl/, you can set your monitor at 100Hz provided your monitor is capable of it. It works for me.

I have this weird problem with my 4870x2. I am running Catalyst 8.12 drivers, and am forcing on VSYNC and Tripple Buffering along with 16x AF. Everything works fine, apart from the VSYNC. For some stupid reason The Witcher runs the game intro cutscenes at over 1000fps, additionally, the menu's run at some ludicrous FPS and so do the loading screens. This causes my GPU to overload itself and the computer reboots as if there were a memory leak.I am running Vista X62 SP1 with all the latest patches. Is this a common problem? The same problem has been happening between 8.7 - 8.12 Catalyst Drivers. Thanks

Yes.Exact same problem here with Vista x64 and a 4870 HD 512MB card n ATI Cat 8.12.I bought the original Witcher a while back before EE was out but decided to take the game back to the store due to some horrible performance issues that I was getting. Now that EE is out (and now that I have Vista on my machine), I tried the Witcher once again to see if any improvement had been implemented.......But just more hassles that I could do without.[MOD]Watch your language[/MOD]

I have the same problem. In windows (Vista 64) the refresh rate is 85 Hz, but when I start The Witcher it drops to 60 Hz. Also I have tried "refresh lock" and it doesn't seem to work with vista.

Hey guys,I played the witcher when it was very first released. Since then, I haven't had a chance to get my hand around it...I recently upgraded my computer and switched my monitor to 1080i HDTV. So here is my problem:1. I am getting very difficult tearings during the game, but I couldn't find any in game vsynch option. Is this unchangeable? Is there any patch that could enable vsynch?2. I have installed Enhanced Edition on the game...but I heard somewhere that I have to patch my original game and THEN upgrade to EE...is this true? Or, is there any extra patch I must download and install on top of EE for optimal gaming experience? Thanks a lot.

if you have 2 game DVDs and the box says Enhanced Edition then you only need the hotfix 2.3: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0

I have no idea what you mean by D3DOverride. Could you give me a link or some site that could help me understand what that is and how to enable it to solve my issue? And aoso, is there no patch at all where I can simply enable Vsynch in game?

The EE installed alright (i think....though I have no idea if I am playing on EE or Original), but for some reason, it wouldn't let me install language pack or some such other files. Also, the EE patch I downloaded is very old one (the very first release on line). Is it still the case that I just need the hotfix 2.3? Also, how could I check if I have EE working correctly and that I don;t need any other patches like English language pack or some such?I know this is a lot of newbie question...I really appreciate the answers again.

i just gave you a linkget RivaTuner, install it, and in your programs menu in the RivaTuner submenu you have D3DOverride and you run it and it stays in your system tray and you got Vsync on all of your applications

when you've installed the patch 1.4 you've also installed at least one language ( the language of your game installed )if you now want addtional languages you just need to run the language packrunning a different language pack yields error messages or what?

Ive also experienced the graphic tearing on screen minimally in such scenes that I am not even gaming in-the beginning intro where he drinks a mutagen and veins bug out and eyes chg..you notice some tearing. I used to think it was the fact that i had done some OC of CPU but then i reduced the OC and no differnece. I then thought, maybe my graphic card wasnt up to snuff-an BFG 8600 gts. I then thought maybe iths the monitor-a Dell Ultrasharp LCD 19" expensive at the time i bought it 5 yrs ago. Recently, I switched out the graphic card, monitor and added a blu-ray player to go HD. Bought a Samsung TOC 24" Syncmaster, XFX 9800 GTX+ Blk Edition card and installed a Asus Blu-ray DVD player. I have an Intel e6600 2.66 mhz CPU and 4 GB Corsair Ram in a 32 bit OS running WIN XP, SP3. Ive installed the EAX patch since I have a Creative Fatal1ty sound card and Bose spkrs and couldnt get the EE of Witcher to install w/out it. Still the tearing is there where it was and the sound cuts out for a couple of seconds when he is facing the Striga in the intro also and a bit of tairing happens there too. Is this common and nothing to do w/my equipment? The only thing left to upgrade might be the CPU and Ive considered the Duo Core 2 e8400 Wolfdale. I thought i read somewhere that OC a CPU can create tearing? Thankfully most of this graphic stuff occurs in the intro and not within the game. Any further info not related to patches I havent covered to try? Thanks[/color]

Thanks for the Rivatuner v-sync tip. I will try it tonite and report back. I have an nvidia 9800 gtx+ video card and its software but have also downloaded Rivatuner w/intention to increase speed of card's fan. I never did do much of that and would welcome instruction on how to do that w/Rivatuner. I have the most recent version...will try to force v-sinc with D3D Overide. Rivatuner is a well known prog many use to tweak their video cards. You can download it off the web at the guruof3d...they have info on the prog and recent versions of it as well. The tearing is minimal for myself and not a major upset so if its the game, no worries but anything that improves graphics and performance, I will always try. Tonite Im going to adj my pagefile for example and see what that does for speed. Read that if you use 1.5x or 3.0x amt of RAM your computer uses it will improve performance of virtual memory.

not really, it was like that 10 years ago maybe, but on today systems, with 2-4gb of RAM, the swapfile is not even used, so why bother, why use 4-8gb of hardrive space that is never used ? :hmmm:

Back to report that I have had Rivatuner installed from 3Dguru site and have the D3D console open on desktop and forced vsync on but no change I have a widescreen Samsung 24" toc syncmaster monitor. I did have a 19" Full Screen monitor prior so Ive played it in original version I purchased and now in EE which I updated. I installed the EAX patch due to my Creative audio card as said before. My video settings in game are all maxed out since i have a good video card which is very fast. Ive got 4 gigs of RAM and only use a 32 bit OS so cant use anything higher. Im thinking I should try to lower my in game settings on AA and AF as well as resolution settings-thoughts? I believe its nothing with any of our equipment and sounds like we all have the patches we need. Maybe its just the way the game was developed? I just built my rig in 2007 w/excellent equipment and alum case-in 2009, I upgraded vga, monitor and even DVD drive all to HD components that are more powerful...I believe its got nothing to do with my equipment. Someone mentioned in the forum stated lowering video settings and it will run better re: tearing. I also experience colorful artifacts in Act II in the druids cove when i know my computer is not overheating and it doesnt seem to appear anywhere else...another fluke? Like I said, its minimal tearing and one sound cut out as Geralt's facing the Striga and staring her down. Didnt have that in original edition of game but i did see the tearing. In game is pretty good up through Act II which is as far as Ive gotten. About to head in to Act III excitedly ;D For those who want to download Rivatuners most recent version-it can do many things with your graphic card not just vsync go to www.guru3d.com

if the game itself works ok then it's ok, maybe the movies have a problem ( BIK files, BIK decoder... you might try to run the movies with The RAD Video Tools and see how that goes )also 9800GTX+ is a fast card but not the fastest of the bunch, do you really need all that AA ? put some 4x AF to fix the dialog blur bug, but try to mess around with the other setting....BUT this only if the main game has problems

I'll give it a try and see what happens. Ive got an XFX Black Edition 9800 GTX+ so it was the fastest at the time. Now the 260's have become much more affordable which is what I wanted but the deals on the 9800 were too good to pass up. I will reduce my settings and see if it makes a difference. RAD Video tools, Ill check it out, thanks. First time ive heard of this tool.

Turning OFF Antialiasing (in game options) solves the 60Hz problem on my Vista x64(the game runs at max for my CRT - 85 Hz).This works also with other games. I like CRT, but hate 60Hz :p
