W2EE cant get past splash screen
Hello everyone,
I have trouble starting my Steam release of the W2EE. I have beaten the game before but I have played the GOG version than. In my mailbox I have some correspondence with the Tech support since the GOG release was also giving me trouble. Unfortunately it doesn't state what was the problem and how it was resolved, and I do not remember that as well most likely cause it was June 2011 ;-).
Anyway, the error I'm getting is the infamous Visual C++ runtime error following the splash screen.
I have read the forums and FAQs and have tried the following solutions:
- I have amended the registry entries and modified the redist folder name to redistOLD
- I have checked the integrity of game cache and it returns the standard one file not validated
- I have checked my drivers etc. and all seem up to date (DxDiag attached)
- I have attempted to install MS Virtual C++ as suggested however I was unable to do so, the install wizards were prompting that they have detected a newer version and will terminate. I have multiple versions of MS Visual C++ installed so I do not really know which one should I uninstall, and do not want to meddle with it, maybe sbdy here will know (screenshot attached)
- I have also checked with my antivirus McAfee Total Protection and both launcher and witcher2.exe are added to the firewall internet connection exemption lists
- I have attempted safe mode (low settings, window etc)
- I have downloaded polish voice-overs and tried to run it in polish and english but it doesn't work
- I do not use any of the toolbars there were listed as problem with looped launcher (it happened to me as well as some stage I was not getting the runtime error but instead after the splash screen application was returning to launcher)
I would appreciate any suggestions and help to resolve that embarrassing situation.
Edit I forgot to mention that I'm running Alienware Aurora gaming rig...
Edit 2 I have also modified my Catalyst settings so most of the parameters are application controlled (all that had this option)
Edit 3 I have removed all saves from W1 and reinstalled VC++ x64 still doesn't work
Cheers
Michal
