We Happy Few

Looks like a very promising project developed by Compulsion Games (authors of "Contrast"): http://compulsiongames.com/en/10/we-happy-few

The game takes place in a dystopian world where players have to blend into the "happy" society in order to avoid drawing attention as "downers".

Compulsion Games had a presentation at PAX: http://compulsiongames.com/en/news/7/pax-east-2015-recap
and plan a crowdfunding campaign. They also said that DRM-free Linux release is a possibility.

@soldiergeralt : Original enough, especially social aspects of the settings affecting the gameplay directly. Retro-like style has certain expectations. What's so bad about it?

It makes me think a little bit of The Prisoner, the best series ever made.

Actually authors listed The Prisoner as one of the works that inspired the game, together with 1984, Brazil (by Terry Gilliam), Brave New World and A Clockwork Orange.

I'm also getting a little bit of a BioShock (2007) vibe from it, in particular from the masked citizens and how they react to anything non-conform and out of the order.

The art style also reminded me a bit of Bioshock (both original and Infinite), though none took place in the 60's. Maybe it's the british policemen. Definitely looks interesting.

I hope it gets as ridiculous as Brave New World in the end. But the real question is: Does it have Soma?

We Happy Few announced the date for starting their Kickstarter campaign: June 4th. So far no details were provided about their exact goals and planned supported systems, so stay tuned.

The face of political correctness in a game. Interesting.

Their campaing is live, but they didn't iron out details on the Linux release yet, so I'll be waiting before backing them:

They also released a pre-alpha build gameplay:

The concept is appealing to me.
Sadly, I found this response from the developer to a comment in the kickstarter page:
Bob M:
We thought about the drm free digital version. The issue for us is that we'll be developing this pretty constantly up until launch, so you'd end up having to update anyway.

I'm not pledging unless they state clearly there will be an option to get the game DRM free.

If you check the original question they are answering, it was talking about the physical version. I guess they could fix it by providing GOG code in it instead of Steam one. Feel free to contact authors about it. They are also very responsive on their forums.

Maybe the DRM-free is a GOG one.
