Well...honestly. Okay I'm very honest now, but this is my very first forum. Yep. Four months ago I received my very first +1(thanks Blothulfur!)...and honestly had no idea what it meant. I thought it a comment on my post(or avatar)...and it was...but I never understood at first why my rep kept going up, or that the mechanic of + or - was there in the first place.

Of course, when I discovered it(didn't take too long mind you) I had some +1's do hand out. My first to Blothulfur!

Well I learned dear fellow witchers, of both + and -, and in spite of this, I achieved 40+ rep before the forum changed. I also never handed out a -1 because obviously, I didn't like the thought of getting one myself.

Well, even before the new forum +1 only policy came along, I looked around.

And I can say that this is probably one of the nicer forums around to be honest. Have you taken a look at other forums? This +1 only mechanic could be healthy to have at other forums, I tell you. The things people write. Sure people argue here sometimes, but discussions here are often enjoyable and interesting!

I say I really like it here. I like the discussions, I like the moderators helping you if you need it, I like my favourite devs answering some of our questions, and I like you all fellow witcher forum members!

So, +1 everybody!

Thank you for making this forum a place I gladly return to!

Down vote can also cause prejudice. if you read a post with some down vote, you'll subconsciously try to ignore that user's statement. I personally believe that every opinion has its own reason, provided we can see from its writer's perspective.

I have seen what happens what happens with downvotes. It makes people feel terrible for attempting a discussion and really takes away from the discussion.

In some websites that use DISQUS people take time to downvote so they can bully or annoy others. I sure hope it never comes back.

I am against downvoting. It's a cop out for those who cannot make a rational counter-argument. It's the easy way out.

I want articulate and well-reasoned argumentation without any personal attacks or logical fallacies. The "thanks" for the posts are shortcuts for people saying: "I support and/or agree with this or most of this" - which would reduce clutter if that's all that people have to say.

A question for CDPR - how many registered users are on this forum? Did the number of users grow over the past year since the Witcher 3 was announced? That was exactly one year ago btw, February 4, 2013.....

Oh god no. Keep that stupid fucking feature out of here. I despised it. It was a tool for assholes to abuse and gang up on anyone who didn't share their opinion. And considering the amount of political correctness, anal retentive behaviours and just plain boring dudes that hang around here, it was literally spammed to death on certain posts. Even though those posts actually had some fucking merit.

Fun fact. When I first started posting here, I thought that feature was to be used when wanting to correct or emphasise a badly constructed post. Where the argument is lacking, the point is vague or it's just grammatically broken. But oh boy, thanks for showing me how fucking mature and wise beyond your years you are. When it dawned on me what some disgusting shitheads were using it for... well, it's odd that I'm still around here. Truly repugnant behaviour. I'm ashamed to be posting here.

So no my man. I'm so fucking glad the downvotes are gone. They're nothing but instruments for negativity and outlets for blind rage. They're misused to fit each moronic posters own agenda, rather than improve the overall quality of the site and the forum. I'm so fucking thankful and happy that it's gone. You have no idea. Now people can refute a post, not by just clicking a shitty button, but through rational discourse and intellectual discussions. It's win win baby.

Post-Script: I seriously can't believe there's people who want the feature back......

Well, that works the other way, too. Posts that have upvotes you will subconsciously try to pay attention to.

Ehhhh, a recent moderating action has me doubting that.

I also have doubt on some member interpretation of forum rules. Anyway, you know what to do, do you? or you need to badmouth the mean-moderation all over the time here? ;)

I feel you. Nothing better than putting yourself down once in a while. Maybe you can still report yourself to the admins from time to time. ;)

All the time? Being touchy, are we? Mentioning it twice (once after directly being asked for it) hardly qualifies as “all the time” in my book but I guess your mileage may vary. And no, apparently I do not know what do to do since I still do not know why my ban was issued, even after contacting Marcin Momot via e-mail and asking him for the reason :(

As far as I remember, we exchanged couple emails and I explained to you why you were banned.

Now. I think we would all appreciate a healthy discussion without antagonizing other users.

Some bans were lifted during the forum migration - let's rejoice and try to play by the rules, instead of looking for arguments.

Let's get back on topic, shall we?

Quoting from the forum rules:

"The decisions of forum moderators or CD Projekt RED staff concerning a given user, as well as any related opinions expressed by any of these parties, shall be considered confidential to said parties. As such, they shall not be discussed on forums.cdprojektred.com."

If you have a question why a moderator or an administrator took an action they took, you may ask that question by PM. Never on the open forum.

The negative button serves no real purpose in forums where free speech and the opinions of everyone have value and merit even if I disagree.

@ Blothulfur *HUG* Glad I could help. ;)

I think the "negative" points might have been useful as a passive measure for members to restrain from posting comments or opinions that are particularly inflammatory, offensive or that explicitly break the forum rules. This has more to do with functionality than free speech. Imagine if I went around bashing someone's nationality in public and somebody else punched me in the face. It's not the most elegant or intelligent thing to do but it works.

The problem was these points were never (as far as I can remember) used for this purpose and instead people would often downvote opinions contrary to their own. Also members with a bad posting record were never sanctioned (for this reason alone). In the end, this means the system was either misused or simply useless, so I am glad it's gone.

I never liked the downvote part of the system . Same as with the ability for members to upvote their own posts . So yes i`m glad it`s gone .
