Minigames in bigger games. The Matroyshka Dolls of the gaming world.

Sometimes it's a copy of Wolfenstein that you can play in Wolfenstein. Sometimes it's just playing poker or roulette in Fallout New Vegas.

Other times it's Gwent, a whole card game invented for the Witcher.

Sometimes it's something you must do to hack a terminal. 8721 times. Per hour. Forever.

So yeah. Minigames!

1 and 2. I'd obviously prefer an awesome, well-thought out minigame like Gwent, but I would hate for that to come at the expense of all the other fun little activities games like GTA (used to) let you do.

I definitely want casinos, poker, blackjack, etc. to be in-game if possible. But if CDPR can somehow accomplish both... That would be preferable!

2, 9. Not sure about a full game. I would like there to be puzzles but not in the gamey sense ... like I'd hard pass on something like hacking in Deus Ex HR or ME Andromeda.

3 = something big as witcher 1 is too much, but a 2D coin op arcade game in full '80s style (it's cyberpunk we're talking about) would be perfect.

5 = I think mini-games that mimic the action your character is doing increase immersion (think hacking in deus ex HR, when you had to select the right "code lines"). Being it a FPP game, they want you to feel there, so I want to open doors, pick items up (animations) and hack. How good I am in the minigmae must reflect my character's stats. 3/10 in hacking? minigame is hard. 10/10 in hacking? so easy I can solve it with in 1 second. Of course difficutly should vary. Some computers are easy to hack, others are harder.

10 = why not? trophies/achievments don't add anything, an in-game prize does. Nothing compulsory though.

For now I voted for 6 and 10 (while considering the third option).

What I mean by 6 is that V's skill should be weighted more heavily in the difficulty than player twitch, etc. So if V had maxed out a skill, the victory condition would be very easy to achieve. I like the idea of 5, but it wasn't clear in the wording of the poll whether that would conflict with 6.

Personally, I think it could be fun to tie these sorts of minigames into vehicle modification / customization as I haven't seen that really done before (See the GRIFFON from the "Revenge Road" episode of BUBBLEGUM CRISIS). That's a very Cyberpunk use case for minigames.

I chose 10 not because "cool rewards" are in any way neccessary, but because this gives CDPR another way to deliver exposition / infomation, lore, fan service, secrets, or fun cosmetic options for player expression (that don't break the gameplay balance). Maybe even a means to "prove" your value to NPC's.

I think they're lame, it should just be 'press key to bruteforce this lock', wait 2.3 seconds, that's it, move on.

Something that's quite plausible within the CP2077 world, that are part of the lore are Braindance, and VR experiences.

I'm personally quite keen and interested in all the many number of ways VR and Braindance can be leveraged within the game to give a unique experience in exploring worlds that are NOT Night City.
I'm not talking about VR for you, the player, with your Oculus, or whatever device, but, VR for your player character "V".

I've written about this before, and have posted some things in the Story Line Suggestions thread.
THIS POST, for instance, details how CDPR could use old assets from The Witcher series to transport the player character to The Witcher universe, or, at least something resembling such. Just as we got to play Ciri for some sections of The Witcher 3, a VR quest could put us in the shoes of a fantasy character, or give us a choice between a few archetypes, where we then do a quest, or some number of quests within that fantasy landscape with those fantasy rules of swords, and magic and such.

Additionally, besides leveraging old assets from The Witcher, other unique encapsulated worldscapes could be built for V to explore, and complete quests within, other worlds with their own particular rules, physics, and styles.
One could find themselves in a cartoon 2D side-scroller like Cuphead (or something similar), for instance, and other strange landscapes like dusty old forgotten VR game spaces with degrading data, missing models, and other hazards that some net runner has found and coopted for something that the player eventually encounters in working for or against that net runner.

There could be a a nod or two in the direction of The Matrix where the player finds an old hardline phone somewhere ... and it's ringing. When V picks up the phone, they're transported into a VR experience, an escape room, or something, designed to test their skills by some mad crafty NPC quest-giving character that will contact them and give them a quest if they solve it.

These ideas are, I guess, not entirely mini-games, but, live in a gray area somewhere between mini-game and side-quest.

Whatever the case, I'm quite partial to, and excited about all the possibilities and potential in-game VR could and can be leveraged to give players MUCH more of an experience than just the world of CP2077 Night City.

:)

I voted for 1 , 2 and 9 .
1 Something like Gwent or Pazaak from KOTOR would be fun.
2 Digital casino games would be good too.
9 It would be best if you didn`t want to play the game didn`t make you.

7 and 9. I loathed Gwent in the Witcher 3. Especially when you were punished for not having a good deck.

I voted for 8 and 9 .

I don't really care about some mini game, Gwent was fine and interesting game, but even then i didn't feel the need to play it, i also would be really happy if game don't force me to play some mini game if i don't want to.

1,2, & 7 (assuming puzzle means skill replacement like hacking/lockpicking minigame). Regarding games as skill proxy, either have no skill or have no minigame, otherwise you get into situations where the result of the game and the content of the character sheet are in stark disagreement and that undermines the whole reason of having the sheet. I like having activities in the game, especially ones that aren't strictly necessary and I don't have a preference if this is based on something irl or something made up. I don't want them to be mostly based on random chance though like dice poker (card poker has limited cards which significantly alters the chance to tactics ratio while dice poker is a punishment in hell).

I personally do not like Mini Games. The reason company adds mini games is to break up the core game play. Which honestly if your core gameplay was fun from start to finish. Then why would you need mini games. I feel mini games are more of a company saying they feel their something wrong with their game and you need these for some reason or another. I feel companies should focus more on a solid and epic core. So they would not need mini games.

Yes the Witcher series as much as I love it. Did not have a perfect core game play. You even needed some of these mini games to farm gold. Which was a big weakness of the Witcher games.

7/9.
I don't want minigames, wants activities/interactivity instead.

I am with you on this. I want a living breathing city. Where activities and interactivity will happen. Like a group of people getting together. Then suddenly like a cybernetic show down happens. Where the people are cheering for who has the best ogs. V can then walk up and join in on the show. You know stuff you expect to see. Fights breaking out and other cool things.

Push 9! lol

I like card games but I didnt like Gwent . I also don't like hacking or anything that is TIMED and stressful .

Last , they should always be optional . So it doesnt ruin anyone fun . If you wanna play the mini-game? Go ahead ! But if you don't want ? There should be a SKIP button in there .

Personally I hate most minigames.

I don't buy an RPG because I want to play a platformer, Quick Time Event (QTE), Fallout/Skyrim lockpicking, or any other minigame. Needing to spend minutes to hours trying to defeat this or that minigame in order to play the game I want to play sucks. And in a couple cases I've just had to quit playing a game because I couldn't beat some minigame in order to advance the game I bought and want to play.

Voted for... nothing. It's rather impressive how you've managed to put ten options, none of which I entirely agree with. I guess it's because I'm mostly indifferent in this regard -- although I do know I don't want a minigame like gwent that requires collecting tons of items.

I won't stop hoping for classic (not digital) dice poker unless the game comes out without it.

Idk for minigames i was thinking of there being 80's game cartridges hidden throughout nightcity that you can find and you can buy the game console to play these games in a pawn shop. or have vhs tape instead with a little pieces of a movie on them that leads to a special mission, something like that. not really a minigame (unless you take the hidden cartridges route).

Not a puzzle fan at all, and I dont want CP Gwent. CDPR should have us find an old arcade and we can play a few 90's era games reminiscent of old hack and slash or shmups. Another idea would be a kind of active target shooting on the outskirts of town.
