Weird, excessive bloom-like effect all over the place

Hi. I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but I can't find a solution anywhere.
I recently applied the EE patch but this problem didn't go away.

On my PC there's a grotesque, exaggerated bloom effect that makes everything washed out, Geralt's skin deathly white and the background too. The weird thing is, when I press esc the screen not only darknens, but it actually seems to change its nature and recover the correct palette. Check out how awful it is at the very beginning of the tutorial:

and this is what happens when I press esc:

same thing at the beginning of the game, talking to Triss - observe the background here:

I'd basically like to have the faces and world and everything look like the do when the main menu is open :D

I tried fiddling with the options both in the launcher and in the control panel of the graphical card, with no effect. I'm running a Radeon HD 5750 with the latest driver (although the problem was already present months ago with the old driver and the old version of the game).

I've been waiting months to play the EE, now I'd like to do it... thanks a lot!

This may not be the case, but did you actually check in-game graphic options? Set them on 5, it seems like your gamma and brightness are on at least 9.

Check your graphics card settings as well.

Idk, check your ingame brightness/gamma/contrast options, might be set way too high.

Guys, this is embarassing, but it actually was the brightness/gamma (the former, mostly)

The weird thing is, it was set to, like, 5: that's why I didn't even think of it. It seems that these settings are hyper-sensitive on my system, since cranking them down a couple notches has been enough to solve the problem (and you saw how crazy it was...)

sorry for the hassle, you can close this one :)

thanks again,
Stefano

I personally found the bloom effect over the top , and just disabled it.
