Weird wonky jagged screen

Hi,

After I installed the 1.10 update and its smaller 300mb hotfix I have been having even more problems with freezing and weird wonky jagged shapes popping up on screen, usually near water... the water might flash green, or have a strange "shattered multi-colored stain glass" effect that will then flash over the whole screen.

I can play games like GTA 5 no problem and this game runs quick and looks great with no slow down or lag, but then it freezes on me all the time now, especially with those strange bugs mentioned above.

I'm playing on a year old Lenovo Y510P i7 with 8gigs ram and an up to date NVIDIA GT 750M on a Win 10 OS. I had it cleaned professionally by the geek squad at Best Buy a couple of weeks back, and it isn't overheating.

Any suggestions on how to make those jagged stained-glass rainbow shatter pop ups and the green flashing water go away?

Sorry, man, but that sounds like graphical artifacting caused by a dying video card. If you are overclocking, disable that right away.

If the issue does not appear in other games, then it could be only a driver issue. If it does appear in other titles, however, that's a bad sign. Normally, if it can be easily recreated, it's a sign of hardware failure.

EDIT: Addendum -- I'm assuming it looks something like this:

Ohhoho!!! Hahahaha!! No... my screen ain't THAT bad!

No, It seems to affect only the water and the screen... for example, another thread with an OP that has a similar problem shows HIS screen capture as this (from http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/58839-1-10-Clipping-adn-flickering-and-artifacting?p=1932049#post1932049 ) I have the same problem but mine is usually multi-colored...like stained-glass. I'll try to snap a pic from my own screen next time...

---------- Updated at 06:25 PM ----------

I just found the cause. It seems that the game doesn't like it when I play at a lower resolution and it gets temperamental and freezes with those flashes/clipping bugs. I was playing it at 1360x768 , and i kinda like that setting because the FPS is quite nice with medium-high settings, even with AA on... BUT... after this patch it crashed more with that resolution than ever before. Now, on the 1920x1024 setting, it's got slower FPS but now there's very little flashes/clipping and there has been no freezes/crashes so far.

Why can I not play this game at that 1360x768 resolution? It's got a higher FPS and still looks great. I don't get it. I'm going to write a question about this to the dev staff on this forum to see why I can not have it playing at 1360x768.

Thank for your help.

I was experiencing the same thing as you with the graphics as well as a few other bugs. After I tried verifying my game files they all seem to be gone. Give that a try and see how it goes.

@ISHAOLM,

The image you've posted is a clean artifacting issue with Geralt's hair. That is either the result of bad geometry data (probably a corrupt file) or a driver issue. Nothing to worry about. It's very often caused by AA settings. Try disabling all AA and see if it clears up.

Shaders can be another culprit. I would disable all Sharpening and AO next. Either way, it should be cleared up before long -- fairly common issue.

I've verified those files a bunch of times... doesn't do much for my game. I think I have to wait for a new patch that fixes it. Like I mentioned in another post, I can play other games like GTA 5 with no problems, so it must still be some errors in the coding from the devs... i guess it won't be long before it's all good.
