(One of my hobbies is closely related to the field: etymology.)

I actually wanted to study folkloristics but it's not really an available course anywhere and I hear the work is very rare. But I love etymological studies because they're like stories unto themselves, and they tell so much history. :)

I don't suppose you deliver, do you? I'm only 3000 miles away, we're almost neighbours.
that awkward moment when singapore is actually closer to perth than the other australian cities. but alas! we are a small business.and none of us know how to drive, let alone pilot a plane!

Etymology is indeed a fascinating study! I do a spot of folklore, as well -- mostly mediaeval European, but some of the more popular later collections of tales, too.

Hey there! I must admit that I realy like your Monchhichi avatar. Is there any story behind it?
Welcome to the forums!

In French it's called Kiki :)
Well, as a child my mom always bought me one when she could for my birthday and in the end I add a big family of KiKi. I still own them, displaying them like art. My friends gave me the nickname " Prince of Kikis ". So the avatar picture is from there. That's the all story. Weird right. Thanks for the interest and welcome. You honor me.

I've never officially introduced myself either. I live in the United States. I'm a married 29 year old lawyer who still proudly games when the game looks good enough. I actually got drawn to the Witcher very late. I was always a huge science fiction, fantasy and table top RPG fan growing up. When I heard there was a Cyberpunk game coming out back in 2012 I decided to check out the developer (since I hadn't heard of CDPR yet) and discovered the Witcher. The game looked exciting so I decided to play the the Witcher on P.C. and then the Witcher 2 on a borrowed Xbox 360 (my computer could not handle it and my friend wanted to play the Last of Us on PS3). I think quickly read all the books published in English and then the fan translations of the remaining books online. I joined the forum after having finished all of that last October. I will be playing The Witcher 3 on PS4 since I still have the computer I had back in 2012.

Evening,

Been lurking for a while. Not one for video games much, but The Witcher struck my fancy, and perhaps Perfect Dark on occasion. The Witcher books are my favourites, and I'll re-read them starting next week. The future, technology and computers are pretty cool. The mystery, ubiquitous vibrance, and richness of the past are a stronger attraction, a visceral tug at the soul; the fantasy of magic and fiction, an innate desire to experience, even if only in the mind, a greater existence.

Other than that, I just love a good adventure.

A bit late, but better late than never. Hell'o everyone! :D I've read all the books, played W1 and 2 and although unfortunatelly i won't be able to play W3 for a long period of time having to take care of my grandma medical needs [altzheimer] i don't mind watching gameplays and art. It will probably take a long time until i'll be able to afford a rig capable of running witcher but You know - family comes first. :) I'm from Warsaw/Poland and actually at the pirate's market was my first money i've ever earned. Yeah on someone else's work but it wasn't percieved that way at those times. Actually first trials at pirating was at local VHS renting place where i've supplied games and could choose anything i've wanted from movies.... Mostly scifi, horror and porn but hey - we were all 12-14 once ;) I'm a Trekkie btw. I hate to write about myself so just..... I hope i won't offend anyone due to the fact that i've learned english 50% from computer games and 40% from music and sometimes nuiances are lost to me. Be a bit patient with me :)

Be wellcome @Cathulhu81. Sad to hear about your gandma's Alzheimer, not at all funny, I know.

BTW... on the contrary, be a lot patient with US because we will write about our TW3 playgame while you cannot play it. So forgive me if sometimes I forget you when I do.

Thank you for join us, feel as at home.

Thank You for a warm welcome. I'm looking forward for gameplays and Your impressions. I don't feel sad or anything that W3 won't run on 32 bit 2 core - i've been expecting this. But it's so much... fun to read hundereds of pages of so many topics. I've been op on so many IRC channels and REC, mailing list and I'm really amazed by the level of discussion here. Maybe this kind of game attracts ppl on a certain level? I don't know - it's just hell of a fun reading hundereds of pages on that forum.

@Eruvadhor - Thank You for Your kind words, but You're wrong. I have a lot to learn. Actually it seems that i'm not going to get any better in Eng since right now i'm into B-Portuguese and Russian and I have 0 opportuity to actually speak eng with anyone. Writing in eng is... hard -.-'

Welcome to the forums :D
From what ive seen you write so far, i'd also say your English is very good ^^

Im curious though, how is English education in Poland?

Because here in Sweden we start English education very early, and we also tend to focus alot on actually talking english to each other during classes.
I once saw a video from Japan whey they were asked about English and they said that they were never actually taught to properly speak it, which i think is integral in any language education.
We also do not tend to dub our shows other than for kids and even then a lot of children like myself did watch american shows in english to.

Although i havent actually spoken English in a few years so i reckon my accent is very strong now and our accent does not sound very good :p

I have absolutely no idea how English lessons are nowadays - all I can can speak of is how it was at my time and it was non-existant. Actually Eng lessons were there -on a paper - but there was a serious lack of anyone who actually spoke it. LOL i've just remembered when I was 15 and english "teacher" approached me before a lesson asking me about some shit from a book and i was: "that's no way to teach anyone anything - play some music and let class transcribe lyrics". Whole year almost every lesson was another piece of The Police, Mike and the Mechanics, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Jethro Tull music. Ohhh how ppl hated me for it xD Not as much as when i've came up with an idea at highschool to translate books and compare our translations and recite them in front of the class.

I think it's much better nowadays but IMHO we still lack at school opportunities to speak english with someone who actually knows it. PPL are more into gramma and not enough into actual communication skills - and believe me - those things are very different. It will get better :) Transition from obligatory russian was hard but we'll manage. I guess Poles will always manage - we're still here even after sailing agains the wind throughout most of our history. BTW - Mr.Sweden - it's really nice reading how we kicked Your ass at Oliwa ;] There is even a wonderful fantasy book about that - yeah not only Sapkowski can write ;)

I'm getting a hang of english a bit, speaking with my brazilian GF via skype - she's a teacher of Eng. But yeah i mostly stick to the music as my main source of vocabulary and gramma. Mostly Virgin Steele since they have an amazing txt and reading for the x time everything that Terry Prathett wrote. Yeah 80% of my personal library are eng books. I've actually never wrote anything exept outside of YT stupid comments, so i guess that forum is my proving grounds. I've already had a bit of missfire comparing Australia to North Korea -.- Great start.... wellll.... i'll try better.

Don't even get me started on what i think about polish dub or actually worse - lector..... Abomination unto Nuggan! Worse thing couldn't have happened to cinematography in Poland ;( I still remember iconic translation of "Fuck You" as "terefere".... -.-' omg and even after so many years it's still happening - at least in movies, 'cos games are translated nicely. My choice - english VO and Eng subs :)

Thinking in English is even harder. But, so long as you are willing to make the sincere effort to communicate in this confused mess of we call English, I commend you for that. Hell, it's my native language, I don't even like it, sometimes.

Pfff! I feel quite better about my autodidacted English now... I wonder what could it be learning with a teacher.....
