Do Japanese actually care about shows other than anime?

Japanese dramas are really popular but honestly, I hate them so much. They have the same formulaic plot and they're so predictable. I don't want to watch TV that I could write/act better myself, so I don't enjoy J-dramas. For someone who studies Japanese and Japanese culture as a degree, I have to keep this opinion to myself, as it apparently is blasphemy to dislike J-dramas -__-

Think that is true for a lot of dramas for all cultures.

I will say though, this one was definitely different, but very, very sad - 1 Litre no Namida.

Of course all cultures have their shitty dramas but I haven't seen a good Japanese drama, whereas I've seen lots of good ones from other countries.
Maybe I've just been unlucky but even the recommended dramas I've tried to watch have been awful :/ and honestly I don't have super high standards when it comes to TV.
