I would really not switch from 290x to any current cards with the exception of Titan X. Wait for 980Ti and AMD's next lineup before deciding whether to upgrade or not.I am developing, when I not play games. So I have a i7-490K, wich is fair enough. Also 16GB RAM. GPU is not needed for that.
But I really want to switch from AMD to nVidia. I have a 290X, but I am not very satisfied with AMD sadly :-
So I am now in conflict between waiting for the 980 Ti (wich would mean I have to wait a whole MONTH) for TW3, or bying a Titan X (I am really keen to do that, I have to admit).
Or maybe a 980 SLI? Or 970 SLI? But SLI would mean I also need a new PSU, I just have 660W.
You surely don't need SLI, unless you want to mine bitcoins, or have some insane resolution monitor that one GPU can't handle.I am developing, when I not play games. So I have a i7-490K, wich is fair enough. Also 16GB RAM. GPU is not needed for that.

I want Nvidia features in the game. And I am quite sure that the R9 290X will not be enough to be able to play TW3 on Ultra with 3440x1440.And why would you not play TW3 with 290X? According to the latest previews the game runs very well on AMD cards. Apparently 280X is enough to run Ultra settings with playable frame rates.
Yes, but at this hour I'm still awakedWait a second. We just got videos with PC Ultra, even without Gameworks afaik, and which looks to me like the SOD trailer and people are still bitching about it? I really need to start avoiding those threads.
And the 4k panorama video is so beautiful!
Ok, enough on-topic.
@wichat.571 Isn't it 02:00am? Thought I saw a twitter post by Marcin stating 01:00am London time. So 02:00am for us. Or am I confusing something?
Yeah it's big and I can't take Gerald out of it because it has a broken nose and a "bad" haircutSeeing how big the CE box is, you can put everything on that shelf on top of it.![]()
Haha!Yeah it's big and I can't take Gerald out of it because it has a broken nose and a "bad" haircut)
Well since you're gaming at 3440x1440 I understand why you want to upgrade.I want Nvidia features in the game. And I am quite sure that the R9 290X will not be enough to be able to play TW3 on Ultra with 3440x1440.
So I COULD do an upgrade with a second 290X, yes, that's true. But as I said, I want to switch to Nvidia. Tried AMD the last time now. They are cheaper and good cards, I don't doubt that. But Nvidia is much better I would say.
So I really should wait for 980 Ti? I mean it will cost like $800 I would guess, so much more than 980, and it will just have 6GB, but that coudl be okay I guess. If they really support DX12 and they can make it happen that a SLI configuration uses both, that would be brilliant.
I would guess 980 Ti is still worse than Titan X though?
Wah.
You're absolutly right... I've forgot it. I', a little nervous and I cannot know why@ALPES @wichat.571 Marcin's announcement was 1AM CE Summer Time, which includes Spain. BST is 1 hour behind, so midnight in London.
Hardest decision in months, ye.Well since you're gaming at 3440x1440 I understand why you want to upgrade.
Tough call. With an SLI/Crossfire setup you would need to get a new PSU and you'd be limited to 3.5-4GB frame buffer. But 980 SLI setup is still faster than single Titan X.
But Titan X comes with tons of VRAM (12GB) and based on its TDP (250W) your current PSUshouldhandle it just fineassuming it's a quality unit.
If I were you and could afford it, I'd get the Titan X. Or wait for 980Ti/390X.
OMG!, OMG!, OMG!, OMG! it's huge! It better contain a PS4 console too[...]But I meant the Witcher 3 CE box, it's huge![...]
Probably only if there is booze insideOMG!, OMG!, OMG!, OMG! it's huge! It better contain a PS4 console too
Definately the booze has to go away!
Hei Kinley, do you think the romanian postal service will "lose" some of the ordered CEs? This thought is killing me ...
Vulkan for sure will allow using several GPUs as a shared resource. But question is, why do you need so much VRAM? And does it worth the money for your use case?Hardest decision in months, ye.
Isn't there some rumour that DX12 will make it possible to use both VRAMS, so 12GB on two 980 Ti, right?
Well in my case they often do. That's why my CE is being shipped to a different country to my girlfriend's place, I'm no taking any chances.Hei Kinley, do you think the romanian postal service will "lose" some of the ordered CEs? This thought is killing me ...
I mean when I use 4GB VRAM cards, that's a limit atm, and in the future even more I would guess. So SLI with 4GB is limited.Vulkan for sure will allow using several GPUs as a shared resource. But question is, why do you need so much VRAM? And does it worth the money for your use case?
Yes, but what is a good use case for more VRAM? Are we talking about 5K monitors, or you expect games to eat so much video memory in general?I mean when I use 4GB VRAM cards, that's a limit atm, and in the future even more I would guess. So SLI with 4GB is limited.
I think future games will on 4K (or my 21:9 3,5K).Yes, but what is a good use case for more VRAM? Are we talking about 5K monitors, or you expect games to eat so much video memory in general?
