Did you notice? The Hairy Bear barely gets any posts lately. The forum is a foreign place these days.

A dense and tangled forest, perhaps, populated by strange beasts, all yammering with questions, fawning praises, and howling with wrath? Ay, indeed -- even the Bear is rather vacant and fractured, as some of the regulars are drawn away to the Seven Cats, to discuss the game. We shall see if order is eventually restored. . . .

One thing's for certain, I jolly well can't start my 'Watching the Grass Grow' jokes again. That time has passed.

Since I stay away from the spoilery tangled forest threads, I have no clue what's going on there. But the rest of the forum is surely a barren land :)

Very wise. Ay, there's naught of interest within those woods, merely brambles and grasping thorns. There are a couple promising fledgling discussions over in the General Forum, though -- if they can get enough interested participants, that is.

Alright let's try to start a discussion.

I've been looking into volunteering abroad lately. I've always wanted to travel abroad for an extended period of time, might be just my "running-away" tendencies I don't know.

But you know handling the logistics of the endeavor is a bit of a pain in the ass. Plus it takes a lot of time, since I don't have any experience. That's why I started looking into volunteering, figuring it would in the end be cheaper and more fun as well as educational.

Helping communities while travelling abroad will certainly make a difference, not so much (if at all) to these communities, but to my own self. Who knows maybe I will become one of these "crazies" who are always out in some distant land. Quite a "romantic" thought actually.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has ever done something like that, and if so, could they share their experience?

I spent 2 weeks volunteering at a children's psychiatric hospital in Russia. It was a bit upsetting sometimes, these kids were so sweet and wonderful, but either their parents couldn't afford their medication, or weren't able to look after them, so they lived in this residential hospital. And it was such a grim place. One of the kids there was my favourite, he used to cheat at every single board or card game we played, but every day he would hug me and tell me he wished I would stay as a volunteer forever. It was difficult on the last day to leave, and I had only been there for 2 weeks. Some of the volunteers would stay for a year or 6 months, and I imagine for the children it was difficult for them to get to know people for a year, and then never see them again.

I don't know that I even helped much at all, I just played games with the children and taught them arts and crafts. Overall it was depressing but I'm glad I did it. I would like to know how some of those kids are doing though.

Darn, wanted to ask something but red the post and that evoked memories and emotions :|
I've seen/worked with some neglected/disabled/delayed (is it a proper term for "retarded"?) kids. Its a pain, each time I have this feeling that holds your gut and squeezes you hard to make you cry. And theres the images in my head of dead children that I've seen. Even the strongest mind falters, I think, when it comes to the most vulnerable of our kind.
How do you make their life better? You want to, you REALLY want to... but you cant. haunts you for days. Or months. Or never leaves.

Sorry.

I wanted to ask how do I check english witcher facebook page? I mean - whatecver I do I end up on polish page... f*ck, maybe I'm just dense, please point me in the right <dir>

When you're on the page there is this three dots icon. Click it and there should be a "Switch Region" option. :)

I have to get up at 4.30am tomorrow. We're meeting at 5.30am outside school, then we will get drunk and torture the younger students ... Okay, maybe that bit about getting drunk - we'll do that later probably. Or maybe not. We'll see.
Ahh, last day in school. Hopefully no one likes to pay for the fountain.

Or does something like this (it's forbidden by now btw ... thx to the guys in the boat).

"Westboro Baptist" isn't even a church. It's the Phelps family acting alone, and nobody should confuse their blasphemous bigotry with anything remotely resembling religion.

But inquiring minds want to know: which one gets up early and fixes breakfast?
(I think, Gandalf. He's the one who knows how to cook.)

Funny stuff!

That's the best way to deal with bigots: Shove it in their face and tell them to fuck off if they don't like freedom of expression!

I'd also like to see that "Church" hold those placards in front of a true Irishman: They'd very rapidly end up in an alleyway with a few bruises and cuts!

Can't help but be reminded of this scene in Kingsman which was totally inspired by the WBC. :D

Spoilers and gratuitous violence and to follow!

I am finally done with all my exams, and am now officially a tour operator! :D Now to find a job where I can make use of it.
Nothing's better than some cold beer on a hot day after a long exam :D
