Well that I find quite ridiculous. You know what if someone take's offense feel free to lock it. There is a difference between a discussion and a statement designed to be provocative.
Not so much as one would think. The difference is not what you say it is: it is not the difference between a discussion and a provocation, but a discussion on a topic that is highly sensitive to other members and therefore easily taken as a provocation, no matter if that is not your intent.
Current disturbing political situations such as the ones you mention are and will remain off limits on this forum as a matter of common courtesy to members who have a personal grievance in the matter. It is within the discretion of the moderators so to direct.
While of course I can see this from the mods point of view, and it is for CDPR to decide, I appreciate what
@Costin; has to say on the wider topic of discussing current events. Speaking for myself, "Go to another website" isn't a solution, because it's the
people here - people I share at least a gaming interest with - I'd be interesting in hearing from for their insight on world events in their locality. I follow world news, and now with Ukraine for instance, all I have is the western media & a bit of world history to go by, and I feel it's not enough.
Now, it could be an illusion but I find the thoughts of members here - even when I don't agree - to be generally & consistently more interesting then elsewhere. If we
could maintain civility & decorum in a "current horrible event" thread I suspect it would be a very
provocative discussion (
that does not also imply an emotional one). Yes offence is in the eyes of the beholder, but we humans are capable of a thing called objectivity which we can bring to discussions like these, if & when we can have them at all of course.
Mods & CDPR aside for the moment, I think the Community section of the board
could handle such topics, moreover I believe it could be beneficial rather than damaging. Yes we are here primarily because of a game, but we already talk far beyond those bounds, and rightly so, but I have stopped myself when it comes to current affairs due to not wanting to cause offence, and I suspect many others bite their tongue and don't get involved in a thread (e.g. the DRM one) that
could go pearshaped. Well, thats our loss, there are times i'd love to share something ridiculous arising from my local neanderthals and get an international viewpoint on it, as I'm genuinely interested in many of your perspectives. I'd like the people from Ukraine & environs to see that the community here is aware of their problems, are showing concern, and trying to understand. Some specific rules added for these types of discussions, and a concerted effort by ourselves to make them
discussions, could work.
It does seem a shame... here we are a diverse international community formed round a shared beloved fictional character & an Original (as opposed to 'more of the same') company, both of which have been known to stand up, be counted, and get into trouble occasionally for saying what they think. This is the real world of course and a prime concern on the forum has to be building community not polarising it - but ingame we, alongside Geralt & friends discuss & deal with issues that are just the Witchers version of what Costin suggests.
In the latest Polish edition of Forbes Wealthiest Top 100 list, CDPR founders Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński showed up for the first time, taking 96th and 98th place respectively. After TW3 they will most probably move up the ladder, considering how expected the game is
Congrats to the guys ! Normally I couldn't care less about lists like Forbes 100 - many of them being hereditary - but its great news when grafters get in by merit, also - from a foreigners perspective - I imagine the accompanying prestige in-country will open doors & minds if any are still shut to the possibilities and the success.... is there anyone in Poland who wouldn't take a phonecall from Mr. Iwínski? With personal wealth on par with businessmen who make the change from private to public life, anything is possible
Plus they have money to spend, which is always nice.... I suggest a life size edition of The Witcher Adventures board game out the back of the house, peons included
